"a painting of a giant clock tower surrounded by water and grass"
nothing is more tumblr than having a tumblr sexyman wiki and then warn you to not find some of those men sexy because it's problematic
"there is a person that is looking at a painting on the wall"
i feel like im not a completely stupid person and able to do "media literacy" to some degree. so it does seem evident that "witch hat atelier"'s story revolves around realizing that everyone has the capacity for art and that by cordoning it off to a privileged class and teaching it in only one specific way, the entire field suffers from stagnation and a lack of novel ideas. coco's presence in the field invigorates it and causes it to lurch forward in technique and utility. and i also understand what a plot hook is, and that something things need to happen to move the plot along or create stakes for a story.
but still. but still. its so funny that coco was so bad at art her mom basically died
similarly, my husband was like "what is agott's problem. why is she acting like this" and i had to explain it like. imagine, since the moment you were born, you dedicated yourself to art. your parents were artists and expect great things from you, so when your childhood revolved around art, everyone embraced it and pushed you forward in the hopes that you would surpass them. you draw every single day. you skip meals to study and draw. your body is permanently altered with stained fingertips because of how often you draw. you work yourself to the bone to understand the principles, the history, the intricacies of art so that you might be considered a true master of that which you adore. you get into one of, if not the, most prestigious art school of all time after years of grinding. but its not enough, you can see you have so much more to learn and the field is so vast you worry you may never master it. and then the next day some girl who blew up her mom in a drawing incident shows up at the school and everyone coos over her lopsided circles. and she's your roommate
"a large green tree with many roots hanging over it in the dark" "there is a bird sitting on the tree branch by the water" "a painting of a swamp with many green trees and red birds on the edge"
"a city and many giant buildings are in the middle of the image"
It appears this Black Rose arc is about a power hungry group convincing a bunch of suckers that they should blame all their personal problems on the nearest brown woman. This is much like following US politics
ah yes, the cause we've been seeking justice for 44 years of we launched a fucking invasion.
fucking revanchist pieces of shit screaming 'las malvinas son argentinas' and then crying about how bad it was for all the people we sent to die there. do you not have the basic self-awareness to notice that they died and suffered because, in 1982, people agreed with you. because a dictator trying to prop up a failing regime looked at the exact cause you are currently waving the flag for and saw an opportunity to drum up nationalism and stay in power a little longer. every death, every traumatised soldier, every single wrong attributed to that war happened because of the very idea you are, right now, supporting.
DONT ask why corvid isnt wearing a shirt bc the answer is embarrassing. (i forgor to draw it)

"a giant tree with people in it, surrounded by bushes"
have been EXTREMELY attached to the ridiculous krusielle situation at the festival
a general note on historical accuracy in the Iliad and Odyssey:
the Iliad and Odyssey are not historically accurate depictions of mycenaean greece in the bronze age. they didnt preserve a cultural memory of a past civilization in the oral tradition, they were projecting their own life and times onto the ruins of bronze age cities that were still visible during their own times. thats also why they "knew" where "troy" was, because they had already built a small colony in the ruins around the time the Iliad was written.
and the Iliad and Odyssey arent technically historically accurate depictions of the iron age, either, despite being written during that time period, because they are works of fiction being told by people who are trying to tell a good story. also the Odyssey poet doesnt even get the damned geography of the peloponnese correct! probably he'd never even been there.
if you want to make your own version of the Iliad and Odyssey with period-accurate depictions of the bronze age, or even just an accurate depiction of the poems as written, there's more than enough historical data out there to do that. apparently christopher nolan thought it would be cooler to have Matt Damon wearing a roman centurion helmet from several centuries after the poems were written. which i find tasteless and boring, sure, but my favorite modern rendition of the Odyssey has a lip-syncing George Clooney so whatever.
best rendition of the Odyssey was the kids cartoon that set it in space
so a weird concept that ive been playing around in my head lately is the idea of "changing your deadname", is that even possible to do?
now before you unthinkingly answer "yes you can do anything forever" (boring) really stop and consider the idea. a deadname is the name you rejected, is the name you used to have and dont want to have anymore. it is defined by being the thing that used to be. you cant change the past and you cant change the fact that you used to be called something. furthermore is a name that you changed because you didnt want it, so it kind of feels like its going against the spirit of the tjing to put in something that you prefer instead as your "deadname".
but also on the other hand nothing is stopping you from saying "i want you to refer to my pre transition self by this name". thats a perfectly sensible thing to do, but is that "giving yourself a new deadname"?
so with all this in mind...
can you change your deadname?
yes
no
it only becomes giving yourself a new deadname if you stop using the new one too (and even then it's additive rather than replacement)
