superman.
❝ i don’t know, i can’t create shields, i just have very dense skin to protect me. ❞ he explained, chuckling a bit. he could do many things but that wasn’t one of them. shaking his head he held up a hand with a smile. ❝ it’s alright, i have the same problem with my sense of hearing some days. ❞ when you could hear virtually everything on the planet blocking things out took practice and a lot of concentration. he imagined empaths had similar problems. ❝ that’s true, at least it’s a fairly nice day today. ❞ clark took her hand in his and gave it a firm shake but not firm enough to hurt her. jean grey, the phoenix, of course, he’d heard of her and the x-men. ❝ ah, i’m superman. it’s nice to officially meet you, jean. ❞
“Both have their uses, and applications.” While it might be nice not to have to worry about keeping her shield up, she wouldn’t trade it per say as she could use it to shield others as well, and that was really only one small part of her abilities. “Right of course. Thankfully telepathy doesn’t quite have the range of your hearing because I’m fairly certain I’d have lost my mind had that been the case.” She said with a small laugh, though quite honestly when she’d been much younger with far less control of her abilities it had been brutal simply containing herself. When he introduced himself as superman she couldn’t help but smile to herself but she didn’t comment on it. “The pleasure is all mine, Superman.”
Do you think that killing is ever justified?
“there are times when a person crosses a line so far apart from what can be considered redeemable, however it is incredibly difficult for any one person to take that decision in their hands.”
red hood.
jason rolled his eye and scoffs at the other’s reply. “you are literally in a city where it’s protector is a man who has a furry kink and likes dressing up as a huge bat at night time.” with a small grin he continues, “keeping a low profile is literally overrated. pretty sure gothmites here will get distracted over something new and fresh of the day.” after all, nothing quite stays longer than a few hours in gotham. there are constant break outs and fights from whatever villain of the day, and with the new swarm of heroes stalking the streets of gotham; no one has the time to keep tabs on everything that’s happening around them.
“so from this i guess you are a superhero? definitely not from here or part of the titans or the justice league.” he paused a bit as he ran through the known information he has on all the superheros within the justice league and the titans. there are bound to be a few he didn’t know either from his time being dead && with league, or unimportant for him to even bother himself knowing them. but the red head before him seems different, unlikely to be a small unknown superhero. “unless you joined them when i was dead, which i guess explain why i don’t know you are.”
“i don’t think anyone would mistake mr. wayne for an actual bat.” she said with laughter at his exaggeration, though stopped abruptly when she realized what she’d just said, mistakingly outing the identity of the gotham hero. information she’d picked up from his mind having been around him all day, though taking caution to tune out the boy as she typically did during one on one interactions. “you’re probably right...” she said trying to gauge his reaction before addressing her mistake.
“i have never called myself a superhero. i’m a mutant, my name is jean grey and I’m a x-men and professor at xavier’s school for gifted youngsters.” she said introducing herself, though she tilted her head a moment later going back to the last thing he said. “you were dead...?” she asked intrigued, knowing a thing or two about returning from the dead.

mixing his life as clark kent and superman was something clark had nearly perfected over the years. he did his best to balance the two but being a husband and father made things a little more difficult, not that he minded. thankfully, he had an amazing wife and son who he could always count on. as soon as he settled some stuff he’d enjoy the night with lois and jon. the sound of the dunk tank’s ledge falling caught his attention, however, causing him to look over just in time to see the whole thing. it was impressive but he kept his thoughts to himself and simply grabbed a towel, ignoring the looks he’d been on the receiving end of numerous times. ❝ on my first shift, the first kid that tried dunked me. some of them have quite an arm. ❞ he commented with a grin, offering the towel to her. ❝ here, that water isn’t the warmest, i know. ❞
“Not any more impressive than your own feats.” She replied out loud as she climbed out of the water, taking the towel from him. “I apologize for the intrusion sometimes I pick up things even when I don’t mean to be prying.” She said genuinely apologetic. “I don’t get that cold these days but the wet feeling isn’t all that comfortable. I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself earlier. I’m Jean Grey.” She said holding out a hand to man who really didn’t need introductions of his own.

it seemed like luck wasn’t on his side as he couldn’t personally dunk bruce fucking wayne like he had wanted. disappointed at his missed opportunity, jason simply sighed and turned himself away to look at another attraction, that is until he heard a small gasp from the pair of teenage boys. turning himself back to the dunk tank, his eyes widen slightly at the sight before him as the red head female simply floated above the water for a moment until releasing herself into the water. curiously, jason decided to stay as he watched the teenagers scurried off quickly to the next attraction. “i guess i can’t blame you for that. people can’t throw for shit at all.” with a small smile, he decided to help the other by replying back to her. “though not going to lie, that was pretty fucking awesome.”
Jean climb out of the tank, moving the pieces of wet hair that clung to her face behind her ear as she looked over at the young man. “I definitely underestimated the probability of winning at this game.” She agreed with a light chuckle. “Thank you, but I had planning on keeping a low profile.” At the festival, and during the duration of her stay in the city.
On herself she had no mercy.

“Hey, how about you two assholes go and bother someone else,” she hissed, watching as the two guys began to walk away. Turning her attention to Jean, she walked up to her and leaned against the tank. “You should have done something, those dicks deserved it. You okay though?”
Jean shook her head at Raven’s aggression. “Their just kids, and it’s just a game...” She stressed as she grabbed one of the towels provided for those tending to the game, wringing out her wet her, the long red strands were unlikely to cooperate with her through the length of the festival, thankfully her hair was no longer as curly as it had been when she was a child. “I’m fine I volunteered for this, there was nothing to do. In fact I should’ve been paying more attention so I wasn’t taken my surprise.”

Mary-Jane pulled her camera out almost instinctively, snapping a few photos of the hovering women before she fell squarely into the dunk tank. Who the hell was that? She hadn’t seen her around before, and the reporter couldn’t help herself as she approached the red-head; a friendly smile warming the way for her. “Getting dunked is half the fun of working the tank, right?” MJ laughed just a bit, offering over a sweatshirt she had stuffed in her bag, “At least it’s for a good cause. Take this - you must be freezing.”
Jean spotted the girl not long after she stepped out of the tank, wincing slightly at the camera in her hand. Her luck with photos and videos had not been great in the past. But hovering over a bit of water was nothing compared to the destructive, and maniacal episodes of her that have been caught on camera. “It is, yeah though it takes you by surprise anyway.” She said with a small smile before she shook her head at her offer. “I’m fine really, and they do have towels for us if we need them!”
how stable is Pheonix feeling?
“We’re doing just fine.”
Sitting on the small ledge in the dunk tank as a pair of teenagers tried their luck at dunking her, she wasn’t two concerned having seen how dry the person she’d just relieved of the duty had been. They’d made a joke about how the game was rigged in their favor. Though when one of the boys actually made it and she felt the ledge give under her sending her down toward the water almost instinctively she balled up her force field keeping her from getting wet as she hovered just above the water. When she opened her eyes she saw the looks of surprise and some even of disgust and realized her mistake dropping the shield she let herself fall in the water, before she stood up in it running her hands through her hair, glad she’d opted for her x-men uniform that was close to a wetsuit. She laughed trying to alleviate the awkwardness. “I thought I might get wet, just didn’t expect it to happen so soon...”

It’s still a little strange to be out in the open again, not to be on the run, not to be in hiding. Steve’s still adjusting to being back in a city to stay. And Gotham is no normal city even at the best of times, so he’s visibly uneasy even sitting here in a diner. Something as simple as getting lunch out in the open is just.. strange, but he knows he’ll have to adjust. “Gotham’s not as bad as everyone said it would be.” He laughs softly as he takes a sip of his coffee, turning his attention away from the street outside.
Fingers inaudibly drumming against the side of the mug she was skimming some of the headlines of the paper she’d bought from a street vendor. “Maybe not, but is it just more or does it feel like there’s a cloud of gloom over this city. At least unlike any place I’ve ever been before.”
