Before I got to NYC, I had seen posts about the numerous Michael Brown protests that were occurring across the US. This was taken while I was on a bus tour, passing through Harlem. I wanted to jump out and join them. Since arriving in Florida, the news has been reporting on Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, racism and police brutality. I truly am saddened about the injustice abound - everyone needs to talk about what's going on and why it is happening and make constructive, positive change.

Some things: NYC Edition

Crossing the street: the norm seemed to be walking across when the little man was red. I had mixed feelings about this. Like, I understood they probably had places to be and stuff, but the little man was red?? Haha, I’d have an internal conflict at every street crossing. Note: There were a lot of streets to cross…

Parks: while parks in the city are not exactly uncommon, the ability of parks in New York City to co-exist so seamlessly with the surrounding buildings was slightly bewildering to me. Bewildering, but beautiful.

Dog parks: okay, this was amusing as hell for me. Just the idea that there were designated areas for dog-owners and their pets was hilarious.

To round off my last day in New York, I went ice skating in Central Park (after my solo carriage ride) There is a video I made in the heat of the moment for you guys, which I'll post up right after.

NYC trip day 3: Went on a carriage ride in Central Park. Yes, alone. The driver was absolutely lovely though and the weather was perfect. I would definitely like to do it again in the future (preferably with someone else in tow hahaha)

Not the best photo - promise a better one later, but it is a ticket to a Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D exhibition that was on in NY. Coolest. Thing. Ever. It's interactive and you go through as if you were a probationary agent!! It's brilliant!!

I totally get the whole free love thing mainly because I think nobody says it enough. Like your best friend? Fuck yeah ‘I love you, man’. Your partner? Tell them the shit out of it. Whoever it is, fucking tell them. They deserve it from you, because you’re awesome. And nothing can change that, and everyone needs a bit of love.

This short film and monologue is super great. Check it out. It’s written and performed by Kim Ho, who goes to Sydney Grammar. Considering the recent debates about whether or not private schools will have the ‘right’ to expel same-sex attracted students on the basis of their sexual orientation alone, this video goes beyond a ‘fuck you’ to that system, and is just a really well-done piece of film.
