I'd sit around and wait for you
For as long as the earth allows
I'd bury myself in the grass you once walked on
In hopes that you might return
And that you might see me through the dirt, rocks, and worms
That you might want me despite the maggots and spiders
It's that possibility of hope that keeps my eyes glued to the velvet sky
Waiting for a star to come loose from the fabric and fall
It's that possibility of love that keeps me burdened
Burdened with the sin of patience
For when one's patience is tested much like mine
Waiting for someone who may never return
That patience can turn to compliance
And once all one has left is hope
Hope that the stars will fall from the sky
And the angels from the clouds
Only so you can rest in my arms once again
It's a cruel and unusual punishment
Waiting for you
But it's one I'll never walk away from
So here I'll sit
And here I'll wait
Until one day, you come back to me
My darling wishing star
