Writing Prompt 2 || Calm Smile Tight Grip
Dean had somehow managed to convince Rose that coming and watching and trying to relax with the crowd would be a much better option than sitting alone in Gryffindor tower waiting for the news that would come with their return. In some ways, Dean understood her reluctance about the event. She, after all, knew much better than most of them the effects that this tournament could have on the lives of the students involved as well as those around them. But this was a different age â a time after war and death â and Dean was sure that Ministry had taken proper steps to make sure that things were much safer this time around than they had ever been before.Â
Dean had just returned from one of the vendors with a glass of butterbeer in each hand, setting the glasses on the floor between them as he made himself comfortable against her side, other students crammed in on either side of them.Â
Though she might put on a brave smile for the younger students, Dean knew the sort of things that must be going through her mind as the announcer spoke of the dangers that awaited the champions within.Â
âRelaxâŠâ He said softly as he felt her grip tighten on his hand. He leaned his shoulder in against hers and returned her squeeze gently in hopes that he might be able to help comfort her. âYou know theyâre playing it up, donât you? They want people to think itâs really dangerous in there so they can give them a better show. Any idiot wizard can get through a burning building without a scratch.â His voice was playful as he looked her over calmly, a small smile on his lips.Â
Perhaps it was wrong of him to be thinking about how cute Rose was when she was worried at a time like this, but he didnât mind. Dropping her hand, he reached down between them and held up one of the full glasses, nearly shoving it into her grasp. His hand dropped down to pat her knee lightly. âDrink up. And maybe eat something too⊠Otherwise youâll pass out from all that hyperventilating youâre doing.âÂ
Rose's thoughts were interrupted as Dean spoke up next to her and the Gryffindor let out a shaky breath, her brow furrowed in worry. She eyed the burning building in front of them as she listened to the boy.
He was right. Surely the event couldn't be that dangerous. Hopefully the Ministry had learnt from their past mistakes and made the whole ordeal a lot safer. But still. Who knew what was in that building?
Rose turned slightly, her eyes falling on Dean and finding some comfort in his confidence. She huffed, nodding, "I know." she replied, "Yeah- you're right. I'm being stupid. They'll be fine. They have to be."
She sent Dean a small smile as he handed her a glass of butterbeer, taking a sip at his command. At least she could count on him to keep her from going completely crazy. She made a mental note to thank the boy one day for not putting his name in the goblet. Dean would have been the perfect fit for a champion. Thankfully he hadn't allowed that to be a possibility.
As a loud explosion erupted inside the house, a group of boys behind them let out a loud cheer, clearly excited by the dramatics. Rose scowled, letting out a grunt of disgust, "Ugh, can they possibly be more barbaric?"Â
She sighed, running a hand through her hair, "Here's hoping there will be plenty of Firewhisky at the after-party to forget about all this."
With all that had been going on over the past few weeks, Rose had decided she had earned a night of ignoring her title as Head Girl and letting loose. And that involved a nice mix of dancing and alcohol. And very possibly other activities that could get her in a bit of trouble. But she was a Weasley. She couldn't be expected to be good all the time.
FIVE GRYFFINDOR HEAD CANONS
1. Their common room has not been redecorated in decades. Centuries, maybe. The Slytherins definitely win the award for redecorating the most frequently at once every two years, but even Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw redecorate every decade or so. The armchairs and four poster beds that Harry and company used are the same ones that the Marauders, McGonagall, and even Dumbledore were familiar with during their school years. Most wooden surfaces in the Gryffindor common room are covered with carvings of previous studentsâ initials. Harry spent a fair deal of his free time looking for his parentsâ initials but never found them.
2. They are the only house with a protective spell to keep boys out of the girlâs dorms. Godric Gryffindor was a tiny bit sexist, but in a very chivalrous way. He was all about defending a womanâs honor (which probably got him in trouble with his badass lady contemporaries on occasion). Even though the spell is a little archaic, nobody has ever thought to remove it - most Gryffindors donât even realize that such charms donât exist in other common rooms.Â
3. Gryffindor students are the ones who are most frequently caught out of bed after-hours. It wasnât just Harry and his friends that liked sneaking around (although they were certainly the best at it and got caught the least frequently). Gryffindor students are caught out of bed roughly ten times a month, as opposed to four Hufflepuffs (most usually found to be sneaking out to the kitchens), two Slytherins, and one Ravenclaw. The number of Gryffindor infractions took a significant dive twice; after the Marauders graduated and after Fred and George bailed on their seventh year.
4. Gryffindor has produced the most head boys and girls. Their natural leadership qualities mean that Gryffindors make excellent head boys and girls. Besides winning the count for the most head boys and girls overall, Gryffindor has also boasted the most students who were made head boy or girl despite not having been first made a prefect - a relatively rare occurance, and over half the instances recorded are Gryffindors.
5. Gryffindors have the most varied NEWT scores of any house. The other houses have subjects that they are stereotypically skilled at; Hufflepuffs tend to excel at herbology and history of magic, Ravenclaws at charms and transfiguration, and Slytherins at potions and DADA. This is not true of Gryffindors. Every graduating class of Gryffindors has a fair deal of âOâ scores in every single subject.

Keep My Composure â Scorpius & Rose
As Rose talked, Scorpius drew in a couple of breaths. It wasnât fear as much as it was adrenaline. He felt like his body was on fire. He leaned down, capturing his knees with his hands, ushering her to continue talking. âIâm fine.â He said shortly, even if she didnât care about him. He wanted to assure her of his confidence. He stood up straight and felt his heart rate slowing down. He motioned with his head for them to walk back to their tree for the assignment.
Scorpius looked up at the oversized tree as he was deep in thought. âHonestly the hardest part was holding onto a branch.â He explained. âBecause of my wand.â He was annoyed. This wasnât an easy task. âIf I donât need my wand to draw the sap from the tree, I might just drop it down to you.â He said hesitantly. âI donât need one more thing to be occupied by. Weâll see how it goes when Iâm up there.â
"Letâs do this." Scorpius glanced at Rose with determination in his eyes. "Ascendio!" He shouted and his body zoomed in the air.
"Crap. Crap. Crap." He wasnât going to make it to the apex and looked for the nearest branch to cling to. He sighed in relief as his hands clutched a sturdy location on the tree.
The Gryffindor pursed her lips, her eyes focused on Scorpius as the boy flew up the tree. Rose nodded to herself in satisfaction when he latched onto a secure branch and made his way to the middle.
"You all good?" she called up to him, "Give me a warning if you think you need help!"
Rose paused, her brow furrowing at what she'd just said. Merlin, if someone had told her a day ago that she would be ensuring Scorpius Malfoy didn't hurt himself, she would have laughed in their face. Now look at her.
A loud rustling snapped Rose's attention away from Scorpius and she tilted her head, peering around, "Professor?"Â Receiving no answer, the Gryffindor's hand moved to grip her wand upon instinct, hearing the movements grow closer.
"Scorpius!" Rose hissed, attempting to keep her voice quiet in fear of who could be approaching. Her curiosity was answered when her eyes fell on a Blast-Ended-Screwt making it's way out of the bushes. When three others followed, Rose let out a loud shriek.Â
"SCORPIUS."Â she screamed, "SCORPIUS! I HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM."
Rose lifted her wand, "Stupefy!"
The spell reflected off of the shell of her target and Rose quickly ducked out of the way, cursing under her breath. Great. Clearly she'd underestimated just how effective those shells were. Chewing on her bottom lip nervously, Rose backed up against the tree, watching as the creatures slowly approached.
"Scorpius! Please tell me you're almost done up there! I could do with a little bit of help here!"
The only way she was getting rid of these was by either running, or getting a spell to hit their stomachs. And she was very likely to be hit with her own spell if she chose the latter option.

âSo much for practicing today.I canât find my broom anywhere. I donât know if Iâd rather this be some stupid prank or not. I just hope someone didnât just decided t steal itâ
Rose shook her head in disbelief, "I wouldn't put it past the Slyths to be the culprits. I'm sure they'd find it funny to get in the way of a Gryffindor's Quidditch practice." she shrugged, "Merlin knows the rivalry between us has only heightened with Bonnie and Damon being champions."
"Where did you leave it last?"
Open || Love Potions
"Somewhat but Iâll manage with this level of content." Seeing the head girl in this much strife about a potion gone awry was enough to keep her happy for now. Though she was the first to admit that she too thought the sorting hat got her wrong, that she did indeed belong in Slytherin. After all, most of her friends were in that house and she didnât really get along with others. Apart from Rose.
Rose and Jules were⊠they were both not what they seemed. Rose was the proud daughter of two-thirds of the Golden Trio but Jules knew, better than most, that she wasnât perfect. Maybe that was why they were friends. Julianna was open to that side of her, just like Rose was open to the side of Jules when she managed to grow a heart and be considerate to people. Like now.
"Do you want my help or not, Rose?â She practically hissed the Weasley name before she sighed, shrugging her shoulders at the girlâs acceptance of her help. Finally.
"What do you want to do? Wait it out or get brewinâ?" A love potion antidote could do the trick, or just a hate potion. It would counteract the love effects but since Jules had brewed either - she was willing to bet neither had Rose - it was a bit of a risk.
The Gryffindor huffed in defeat, running a hand through her long hair before shrugging.
"I'd prefer to be able to get back to my common room without having him publicly embarrass me." she sighed, "So I guess we can try to brew a cure."
Collecting her books and sitting up from her desk, Rose led them out of the library, heading towards the dungeons where they could start their attempt at a cure.Â
Rose furrowed her brow, "I'm sure we can figure it out together. I mean, I kind of know how to make a love potion. So the cure shouldn't be too difficult." she said, "And before you try to tease me about it, I only know how to make love potions because Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes is owned by my family." a small smirk traced Rose's lips, "I don't need love potions to garner the affections of the male population."
The good thing about Jules was, she was one of the few people Rose didn't feel the need to keep up appearances around. Rose could be as open as she liked about her thoughts and not worry about Jules judging her over anything. Merlin, Julianna seemed to actually enjoy seeing the less perfect side of Rose. It was a nice change from all the high expectations people had of her.

Tony Abbott: I think it would be folly to expect that women will ever dominate or even approach equal representation in a large number of areas simply because their aptitudes, abilities and interests are different for physiological reasons
Tony Abbott: Jesus didn't say yes to everyone, jesus knew there was a place for everything and it's not necessarily everyone's (asylum seekers and refugees) place to come to Australia

Tony Abbott: If we're honest, most of us would accept that a bad boss is a little bit like a bad father or a bad husband: not withstanding his or her faults you'll find that he tends to do more good than harm. He might be a bad boss, but at least he's employing someone while he is in fact a boss
Tony Abbott: Abortion is the easy way out. It's hardly surprising that people should choose the most convenient exits from awkward situations

Writing Prompt 2 || Calm Smile Tight Grip
Your character is in the audience for the first task. They sit in the stand surrounding a house engulfed in flames and watch as the champions and fellow students rush in to save their loved ones. How does your character feel about the situation? Do they believe their friends/classmates are real in danger? Do they care?Â
Rose & Cora || Alive
Cora scoffed. âSays you,â she retorted. It always came down to the same concept. Why depend on some guy when you could depend on yourself? âIâm not a very fun person if youâve noticed. But Iâm happy with the way I am,â she insisted.
A lie. So what, though? Cora wasnât happy with the way she was, but she could at least try and pretend that she was. Couldnât she? Sheâd just avoid it all like she always did with her problems.Â
"I donât even wanna think about," she commented. Well surprise surprise there. Watching Rose, she gave a small wave as well with an even smaller smile. She wasnât quite ready to be left alone with her thoughts but simultaneosly, she didnât want to keep bothering Rose when the older girl had more important things to do.
Rose spent enough time over the years watching out for her. Cora could recall the first few attempts when the older girl tried to reach out.âWhat would you do?â she questioned, staring at the back of the Gryffindorâs head. Her voice so timid, she wasnât even sure if it could be heard. âIf you lost Hugo and some years later, you found out that he was alive⊠What would you do?âÂ
"You're fun in your unique Cora kind of way though." Rose nodded to herself with a grin, "I'd pick you over the walking cliches that follow me around any day of the week." she stated with a shrug. Sure, she liked her group of friends, but the conversation was never exactly stimulating. At times Rose felt like they were more fans than friends. Always just agreeing with what Rose thought and following her instead of forming their own opinions. If they weren't digging for information about Rose's current status with Dean or her family, they were gossiping about something else. Cora was always the better option.
It was Cora's small voice that made Rose come to a halt on her broom, turning back to the Hufflepuff as she elaborated on her question. Merlin, if there were ever a time Rose wanted to ignore Cora's dislike of physical affection, it was right now. Because this girl really needed a big long hug.Â
Rose peered at Cora, thinking about the question. Her stomach dropped at even the thought of losing Hugo. Nothing meant more to her than her family. And knowing that it had been the same for Cora hurt. It was unfair that her friend had been subjected to that kind of pain. She didn't deserve it.Â
"Honestly?" Rose started, her voice more vulnerable than usual, "I'd be scared at first, to let him in. Because I can't imagine how it would feel to lose him at all. The idea of losing him for a second time, after finding him again? It would terrify me."
She chewed on her bottom lip in thought before she sighed, "But family is everything to me. And I think if I got a second chance to have that bond again, I'd need to take it. Even if I was scared."
Rose shrugged, sending Cora a sympathetic smile, "Because I think love like that is worth the risk of being hurt. " she said, "And if your family means what I think it does to you, I think you should take the chance and let Derek in."
Open || Love Potions
Julianna chuckled with a shrug. âFirst off, it was your fault so you forfeit all judging rights to my reaction to this hilarity. And second, I think my wit and intellect outweighs my amusement to see people knocked down a few pegs. Donât you think?âÂ
It wasnât a secret that Julianna was smart and more than capable at excelling in most of her classes but sure, sheâll admit it, she can have some moments where people might think the sorting hat got her wrong. Hell, even she thought so too.
"Do you want me to help you or are you going to just keep making remarks, Weasley?"
Rose eyed her friend, her displeasure over Julianna's lack of sympathy clear on her features. Why was it her fault that the first year had stolen from her? Okay, maybe she'd left the couch on a less than innocent search for Dean (which she'd come up empty, by the way.), but still. The first year was the one who stole the chocolates!
"Okay, point taken." she huffed, "You're a Ravenclaw thick and through, happy now?"
On one hand Rose understood Julianna's quick defence of her comment. Merlin knows Rose had experienced her fair share of 'don't you think you should have been in Ravenclaw?'s in her time at Hogwarts. Despite her family's strong Gryffindor history, many believed Rose's intellect meant she suited Ravenclaw much better. Thankfully they'd finally realised that Rose is just about as Gryffindor as they come. She's the product of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, after all.
Rose's lips quirked upwards in amusement, "Use of my last name?" she questioned, "Did I hit a nerve?"Â
Deciding to drop it before she was on the receiving end of Julianna's wrath, Rose sighed, "Okay, fine. I'll stop. Yes, I would like your help."
