“I’ve got it,” James said confidently, grabbing for the check as the waitress set it on the table in front of them.
Regulus smirked and nodded approvingly, allowing his boyfriend to begin to reach into his wallet.
The waitress, Amy, grinned. “Where did you find him?” she asked Regulus, gesturing to James. “And have you got any more? You know how many times I have blokes come in and tell their dates to pay for themselves? Despicable.”
Regulus chuckled, his face politely blank. “We’ve been dating since school,” he offered, intentionally staying vague.
But Amy just seemed even more impressed and eager to talk. “And he still treats you? Lucky man,” she beamed, elbowing James almost flirtatiously. “Wish I could find someone like that.”
“I’m one-of-a-kind,” James joked back, preening, handing her a muggle credit card and winking at Regulus, who scoffed, deciding he needed to set Amy’s opinion right. Nobody should care this much about a customer.
“He also offered to cook a romantic dinner tonight and ended up almost burning our flat down,” he added, pursing his lips at James.
James groaned, covering his face in his hands while Amy burst out laughing. “Ah, there it is,” she said, taking the card and walking away to charge it.
“C’mon, Reg!” James whined after she walked away, frowning at him petulantly. “You can’t just let her think I’m a good boyfriend?”
But Regulus crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. “Why? Nobody needs to think that. You’re dating me. The only one who needs an opinion on your boyfriend skills is sitting right here, Potter.”
This however, just made James grin. “You’re jealous,” he announced triumphantly.
“You’re irritating.”
“You’re perfect.”
Regulus ignored the pleased warmth that flushed through him.
Remus looooooves to tug on Sirius’s hair. He gets scolded for it allll the time but he does not careeee, he’ll tug at it during sex or he’ll tug a strand of hair to get Sirius’s attention or he’ll simply grab it by his scalp to move him. It’s an addiction, and Sirius acts like he hates it but that boy is a puddle each time istgggg
no strings attached? 🎸
fem sirius sketch. :)))
Summer.
Over the course of Sirius’ life summer meant many different things. For most of it, it meant being stranded at Grimmauld Place before returning weary and drained to Hogwarts.
Then it meant stacks of letters on the kitchen table and ice lollies and wrestling James in the lake by Potter Manor until their muscles ached and the sun disappeared beyond the water.
Finally, it meant something new. Something unfamiliar and exciting and miserable because they hadn’t quite figured out cooling charms that lasted more than an hour.
Sirius watched Remus putter around the kitchen of their new flat, sticking his head in the fridge and pulling out this and that.
“Orange juice?”, He said when he turned, holding up a big plastic jug in question. Sirius nodded from his perch on the counter, eyes wandering again to the planes of Remus’ back.
It was just humid enough neither of them bothered with a shirt, and if Sirius ever blushed over it—no he didn’t! It’s just the heat. Besides, he was glad Remus had finally given up fretting over his scars around him.
He was glad for a lot of things. Most of them new. Like how more often than not he could sleep through the night, how the future seemed a bit uncertain but not terrifying, how he could snog his boyfriend wherever he liked without risk of an audience.
Speaking of, “Thank you,” Sirius whispered softly against Remus’ lips when handed a plate of toast and eggs. Remus smiled, collecting forks for the two of them, “Balcony?”.
The folding chairs on the balcony had holes in the seat fabric, and made you sink down a little when you sat in them. The view was of the street and buildings and road. And they were lucky enough the wind blew often in their direction.
Well, lucky in a sense. Sirius spat up another mouthful of hair as it danced in the breeze, occasionally smacking him in the face. He rolled his eyes when he heard a snicker from the adjacent chair.
“Shut up,” He muttered, picking a strand from his plate. Remus shrugged, barely concealing laughter, “The whole windswept look is good on you though, sort of like a lion. Very Gryffindor”,
“You mean the tangled, frizzy look?”, Sirius deadpanned. Remus shook his head, “Your words not mine, love”, when he finally laughed Sirius kicked his ankle.
He fully expected them to go back to eating in comfortable silence when Remus got up, “Where’re you—“, The question died in his throat as Remus gathered up his hair from behind, and neatly tied it back with a bobble, placing a peck to the nape of his neck before returning to his seat. Sirius’ heart swelled.
“What?”, Remus asked, lighting a cigarette and tapping the ash into the mug they kept on the floor in lieu of an ashtray, “Your food’s gonna get cold, Pads”.
Sirius probably wouldn’t notice. His whole being felt warm at the moment. From much more than the summer wind.

“James Potter!”
Regulus’s yell could be heard loud and clear from across the two-bedroom flat that Remus, Sirius, James, and Regulus shared. Remus, who was lazing around in the sitting room, looked up at the noise, his curiosity piqued. Normally, he might’ve gotten up to see how much trouble his best friend had gotten himself into, but it was far too hot to do anything crazy like move.
Luckily, Regulus did him the courtesy of storming into the room, dragging James with him. “Sirius!” he yelled, louder than before. “Sirius get your fucking arse in here!”
Sirius, who was in the bedroom he shared with Remus, slowly walked in, sweat dripping down his hairline. Even in this weather, he managed to look utterly ethereal, in Remus’s opinion, his hair pulled into a messy bun and his skin glittering with perspiration. “What?” he asked crankily.
Regulus, who was shirtless and clearly fuming, gestured to James. “Your best friend–”
“My–he’s your boyfriend!” Sirius protested before Regulus could even finish his sentence.
“Not anymore!” Regulus replied hysterically. “Because guess what?”
James, meanwhile, was smiling somewhat guiltily, his hungry eyes on Regulus.
“What?” Remus asked, happy to egg on the chaos.
“Potter broke the air conditioning on purpose!” Regulus hissed, throwing his arms in the air.
The room was quiet for a full ten seconds as Sirius and Remus processed this. Then Sirius, almost as furious as his brother, rounded on James. “Prongs, what the fu–”
“Yeah, he broke it because he knows I get hot easily, and he figured I’d walk around shirtless if it was warm!” Regulus continued scathingly.
Remus tried to hide his smirk. “I mean…it worked,” he pointed out, gesturing to Regulus’s current lack of shirt.
“Exactly!” James jumped in, beaming.
But Regulus was obviously done. “I’m calling Effie,” he muttered to James. “You’re staying with her for the night.”
“Reggie, no!”
"Moony and I decided that if we're both still single at thirty, we're going to marry each other."
James choked on his pumpkin juice. Lily, who had been lazily playing with the ends of James’s hair, froze.
"You what?" James wheezed.
"It’s a pact," Sirius explained casually, reaching over to steal a piece of bacon off Remus’s plate. Remus didn't even look up from his book; he just automatically shifted his plate an inch closer to Sirius so it would be easier for him to reach. "If we hit thirty and neither of us has found a wife, we'll just tie the knot. For tax purposes. And because I can't cook."
Lily stared at them. She looked at Sirius, who was currently wearing one of Remus’s jumpers, and then at Remus, who was using Sirius’s knee as an armrest.
"Right," she snorted. "A pact."
"Yeah," Remus mumbled. "It’s practical. We already know we can tolerate each other."
"Tolerate," James repeated, incredulous. "Sirius, you literally threatened to hex a first-year yesterday because they bumped into Remus in the corridor."
"He was moving entirely too fast," Sirius defended, looking genuinely offended. "Moony has bad joints."
"And Remus," Lily continued. "You spent three hours last week mending a tear in Sirius's jacket by hand because he claimed the reparo charm makes the leather 'feel itchy.'"
"He has very sensitive skin, Lily," Remus defended. "You know he only sleeps on silk pillowcases."
James rubbed his face with both hands, looking like he was rapidly losing his grip on reality.
"You two have lived in each other’s pockets for six years. You pushed your beds together since fourth year, you sign your Christmas cards together, Sirius only lets you cut his hair and refuses to study unless his feet are resting in your lap. Yesterday, I watched Sirius eat a piece of toast directly out of Remus's hand."
"My nails were drying," Sirius argued. "I couldn't risk smudging the polish."
"You're already married!" James exclaimed, throwing his arms up. "You just haven't signed the paperwork! I feel like I'm third-wheeling a sixty-year marriage every time I sit in my own dormitory!"
Sirius scoffed, rolling his eyes at Remus. "We are not inviting him to the wedding.”
James put his head down on the table and refused to speak for the rest of breakfast.

I love the idea of post-prank Sirius being assigned to help Hagrid in detention for the rest of the year and discovering he's good at comforting scared and injured creatures. Imagine him realizing his hands are capable of gentleness and love after spending his whole life convinced they were only meant to break things.

Meetings in the dark c:
Sirius decorates his favourite leather jacket with patches that represented his friends, all of them were there. James even had two a sun and a deer. It made Regulus feel even more rejected that there was never anything on it for him.
What nobody knew was that the first thing Sirius had added was the Leo constellation on the inside of the jacket right above his heart.
I just know Hope did not believe the newspaper that was waiting in her mail.
“Sirius Black, former heir to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, murderer.”
No, Hope thought. Not Sirius. Not the boy who stayed after dinner to help with the dishes. Not the boy who drank tea before bed and always, always remembered exactly how she liked it. Not the boy who laughed too loudly in her kitchen and called her Mrs. Lupin even when she had already told him he could call her just Hope.
No. The newspaper must have gotten it wrong. Because murderers did not send handwritten thank-you notes, and they did not look at her son as if he hung the moon.
