Apparently, allegedly, Connor Sweeney was responsible for the more "chaotic" bits to their songs in the past. Even if ASTY had walls of sound and fun drums, I felt like it was more overwhelm than keeping me on my toes like their past work did. Im not good with explaining myself in technical music terms because I don't experience or think of music in that way, so to explain with an analogy it felt like I was mentally dancing with I Let It In while ASTY just feels like it's smothering me.

#i genuinely cant remember if it took me time to like I Let It In #i feel like i kinda liked it on the get go #except like a couple songs that were really heavy and i had to digest them #but otherwise i think i liked it as a whole pretty easily #with ASTY i took a while to get around Gifted Every Strength #The Way It Breaks sounded boring to me at first but now im accepting its vibe #I think I might come around to Gemini like I came around to the heavier songs on I Let It In #especially bc of its iconic hardstyle drum/bass shit lol #i think some of them feel more poprock like. or something. i dont know how to explain it #which sounds kind of boring to me. but like. theyre doing more with other parts that im not fully absorbing rn #redstrewn talks

Some people are saying loathe is going into more uncharted territory weird shit that is harder to like, and then some people are saying this is loathe switching gears to pander to the masses. Which is it lol. Genuinely entertaining the way that people are experiencing this album

But the thing is, I kinda get both sides, and I dont know how to explain how that is lol

Im seeing a lot about ppl saying lack of direction and cohesiveness, sudden shifting and confusion, and it kinda makes sense to me with loathe on that interview talking about going from an ostritch burying its head in the ground to a peacock and I Let It In opening the doors while ASTY is loathe running through them. They said there is pressure to surpass their I Let It In that seeped into their ASTY, but that in the end they chose for it to reflect what they want to and who they are at the relative present. It also seems like their priority is to be weird ("people want weird shit" or whatever they said). So its like they went "fuck it" and went crazy and had fun. Or as much fun as painstakingly making an album will allow lol. I did see some other fan say the same thing:

Kinda funny how they mention the mix is their favorite. That parts still a mystery to me

Its funny ppl r saying "this doesnt even sound like loathe anymore" and at the same time people are noticing shit like some I Let It In songs sounding like some ASTY songs. Like what is going on with the way people are experiencing this album lol. It's so divisive and confusing that i cant help but feel like theres something worthwhile here

One of my fav things abt loathe is its like they have a ball theyre bouncing around and their noise just follows that going up and down lol
