Newborn babies all have terrible eyesight so that their brains don’t have to process as much information. Which I think is a little bit funny.

i normally don’t make posts of this nature, but this is really important to me as a disabled person. here in the U.S., a lot of people seem to think that we are “post-pandemic” despite the rapid spread of the delta variant. new mutations add further complications and risks, and they happen more often and more easily while the virus is spreading and adapting rampantly.

people (vaccinated and otherwise) are deciding to stop masking, although no vaccine is 100% effective, there’s no clear data on how the vaccines protect against new variants, and you still can get covid and catch it. there are other contagious diseases than covid-19, which would both be unpleasant for anyone to catch, and worsen the situation of anyone who did catch covid-19

in particular, i want to talk about the issue of long-haul covid symptoms how they’re being linked to postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (aka POTS). i’ve been diagnosed with POTS for years, and it’s objectively not fun to have. it affects what i can do day-to-day. some people with POTS are unable to walk or sit. it’s hard to get accommodations or to have your needs be understood. (POTS is a disability!) i think that there’s a vague knowledge out there that “covid can cause long-term effects,” but i don’t know if people know (or even care) about how it can be permanently disabling. POTS research is under-funded here in the united states, and it’s considered a “rare disease” despite millions of people having it, so people who get long-haul covid symptoms that resemble POTS are kinda fucked in that regard. it’s also very hard to actually get a POTS diagnosis, especially if you’re someone who’s already in a difficult position to be taken seriously by doctors.

so basically, you not wearing a mask, whether or not you’re vaccinated, has potential consequences for people. even if you’re an asymptomatic carrier, or you “feel okay,” or “have a strong immune system”, please think about how your decisions affect others too!

It received widespread praise from local, national, and international news organizations for helping provide a modern solution to the issue of a rise in domestic violence cases.

The signal has been recognized by over 40 organizations across Canada and the United States as a useful tool to help combat domestic violence.

Addressing concerns that abusers may become aware of such a widespread online initiative, the Canadian Women’s Foundation and other organizations clarified that this signal is not “something that’s going to save the day,” but rather a tool someone could use to get help.

So, hello. I'm using my platform here now to inform about what's happening in my country. I'm from Cali, Colombia. The city that's been burning for 5 days now and being massacred by its own government.

We need your help to spread awareness on this. As of yet, there hasn't been a lot of international news coverage about it, and our own news are too biased in favor of the government to be of any help.

How did it all start?

On April 28, a national strike was called for people to raise their voices against a tax and health reforms proposed by president Iván Duque, during an economic and social crisis exacerbated by the covid-19 pandemic.

Among other things, this reform wanted to tax us for funeral services (during a pandemic). They also wanted to increase the price of food and water, when most of the population has a salary that does not allow a family to live with dignity. Moreover, another nefastous health reform has yet to be taken down.

But the response of the national government to these protests has been to deploy military forces against the civilian population. A violent, disproportionate, and arbitrary action that incurs in serious human rights violations. My city, Santiago de Cali, has been one of the most affected places. During the night hours of the last few days, in different areas of the city, the police and the mobile anti-riot squad (ESMAD) have burst into peaceful demonstrations attacking with firearms, tear gas, and leaving a balance of dead and wounded that has not yet been counted. They have also captured many demonstrators, some of whose whereabouts are unknown.

My state is threatening the lives of the Colombian population in full view of the world. Please, don't let them silence us!

I... Don't like that the CDC is lifting the mask mandate for people that have been fully vaccinated in most outdoor and indoor spaces...

I know the incentive they are pushing is getting fully vaccinated = no more mask...

But that is not the right narrative to push because anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers could, I don't know, lie about their vaccination status?? I wish they would use common sense because let's face it, there aren't going to be employees checking people who aren't wearing masks' vaccination cards.

I'm fully vaccinated and I'm still planning to wear my mask indoors for the foreseeable future. I have been wearing it less outdoors if there aren't many people around and everyone is moving away from each other (ie on the nature trail), but I've still been staying as far away as possible from others.

Anyways, I just feel like this is a little too soon. My state is nearly to 50% of the adult population being fully vaccinated. I wish they would have at least waited until more people were.

allowing people to go maskless is absolutely how we get the spread of more variants, and it’s embarrassing to see the CDC condone this. they’ve erased the last bastion for many to say, “we all must wear masks, everyone, period, as per CDC guidelines,” since too many states lifted mask mandates.

A little Balck girl from my hometown went missing and even when I'm on the other side of the country I'm shook.

The language the sheriff's department are using to frame her being **MISSING** is apalling.

The'yre labeling her a juvenile runaway when in actuality she's a 14 year old child who is developmentally 9 years old and lives with Austism, Bipolar Disorder and ADHD.

Orange County is rampant with sex trafficking and Yorba Linda itself is inundated with racism. (The city is the regular host of Trump rallies & anti-diversity/inclusion demonstrations) I'm really hoping everything works out well for Nya and her family. I hope she's found safely and returned directly to the care of her family.
