First of all, we'd like to thank our amazing players and interested potential applicants for sticking with us and being brilliant -- we truly appreciate it. We don't come to you with the best of news, however. Refragatio is something we put tremendous effort into making and are truly proud of but we find ourselves overwhelmed with the amount of work that needs doing and unable to keep up with everyone's requests. When you combine that with other projects, bumpy times in real life and tricky muses, our dedication has gone down significantly and we feel that it's for the best to place Refragatio on a one month hiatus, after which we will get back to you. could i get a run down of where the order stands right now? have they already begun planning things together?
That's really up to plotting between the players, but the Order is definitely established seeing as we have members of the Order who are much older. They've definitely begun planning things together, but it's really up to the players ( who have a lot of free reign ) to plan and plot. Of course, major plots must be run past us ( and we'll most likely say yes ) but the Order is already very established.
First of all, we'd like to apologize for not being online and as active on the main as we should be -- it's been a busy week for all of us, but we promise, we're still here. Once again, we apologize for being sparse and we're not going anywhere.
Second, on Saturday we're doing an activity check. Remember, we do have a strike system for activity that would be good for everyone to look over. If you need a hiatus, a semi-hiatus, something, please let us know! We understand, we really do, so please just let us know. If you do not respond to us with a request for a hiatus, or increase your activity within the next few days before the activity check, you will receive a warning.
People on Hiatus Include:
Ciel -- Sirius Black ( Semi-hiatus )
Emily -- Alice Fortescue ( Full Hiatus )
Jo -- James Potter ( Full Hiatus, but not from Admin Duties )
Jules -- Emmeline Vance & Mary MacDonald ( Semi, but not from Admin Duties )
If you are not on this list, please let us know!
Also, make sure to review our recent admin note talking about the timestamp system. Thank you!
When would the next batch of bios be released? Thank you :)
We are still in the process of picking out the characters that we think would be the best to add to the roleplay currently! However, we will be releasing some sporadically over the next two weeks. So keep an eye out for them and we thank you all for your patience with us!
I love that you don't have characters sorted by gender! I wish more RPs chose to do so. I was wondering though... Do you have any Trans* characters? If not would you be opposed to an applicant changing a character to Trans*/NB?
Thank you! We all decided that it would be better not to sort by gender seeing as we let our players decide the gender of their characters -- regardless of what it says in the bio. We currently don't, and we're not opposed in the slightest. I do suggest you look at what I wrote because I answered a question like this a while back.
So, we have a question -- are you actually Alastor Moody? This app was such a joy to read from beginning to end and we really appreciated you keeping up with us since the before the beginning of the roleplay. We were so impressed by everything about this application and we felt it embodied every aspect of Moody and could actually hear him speaking, plus your writing is superb. Please make sure to send in your account within 24 hours and make sure to follow the tags listed at the bottom of the rules page! We’re truly excited to write with you and welcome to Refragatio!

Tell us five facts about yourself —
1. I play quidditch. It’s a real thing, I swear. It’s got an association and everything.
It’s not even a bunch of nerds running around with sticks between their legs anymore, there are teams composed of rugby players and they’re downright frightening.
2. I’m from Toronto, Canada which really only has two seasons: winter and construction. We’re currently in the transition phase where construction’s being hurried along in the day and the nights are absolutely frigid.
3. I’m currently in my third year of undergrad studying neuroscience and psychology so I analyse my friends all the time and decide whether or not they have daddy issues — I mean what?
4. I get bored easily so I have dabbled in practically every handicraft that exists. Half the time I feel like an old grandmother making jam, baking cakes, and knitting hats, then other times I feel like a 7 year old squeeing over shiny/fluffy things.
5. I suck at talking about myself. Uhhh what else can I say here… I’m allergic to dogs and cats. The cats part I don’t mind since it’s an excuse to not go places where they float about- BUT THE DOGS. I cry internally and externally about it sometimes. I just want to cuddle all the dogs.

II. BASIC CHARACTER QUESTIONS
What is your character’s full name? Nicknames? —
>ALASTOR AONGHUS MOODY
Alastor - pronounced ah-lis-ster
Greek for he who does not forget, or avenger. His parents gave him this name as a constant reminder for what they believed he was born to do: fight for and protect the innocent. For the first several years of his life it had been a welcomed motivation, pushing him to do better and work harder to make his parents proud. However, since their deaths, it’s become a sour reminder of the dark world he lives in and drives his hatred for the dark arts.
Aonghus - pronounced an-ghiss
A Scottish name composed of two parts meaning one and choice. Complementing his first name, his parents believed there was only one way for Alastor to live his life to the fullest. Though it may have seemed like a lot of pressure for someone to grow up with, Alastor sees all that his parents ever did for him - even his names - as methods of encouraging him to reach his greatest potential. This name also describes his personality well, the man often becoming hard-headed and stubborn when he becomes focused on a particular goal. Once he’s identified a goal, his only option is to work wholeheartedly until he achieves it.
>Nicknames
Angaidh - pronouced an-ghee
Only used by his parents and Scottish relatives, Angaidh is a pet name derived from his middle name Aonghus. He has mixed feelings about it - now with his parents gone he feels a bittersweet warmth whenever he hears it - which is rare.
Al and Lis, both derivatives of his first name, were used occasionally when he attended Hogwarts, but every since graduating, the number of people that share non-professional relationships with him has dwindled and he is nearly always addressed as Alastor or Moody.
What is your character’s gender? How about their sexuality? —
Alastor is a cis-male gray-romantic bisexual, though now he has somewhat forced himself into leading an aromantic and asexual lifestyle, stamping out most attractions he feels before they have time to develop. Before his sexual overhaul, he realised he is drawn to those with ambition and confidence; he would never feel attracted to those who can’t stick up for themselves. There’s an invisible divide in his mind between those he has dedicated himself to protect, and his peers. Between his parents never touching on the subject of relationships before their untimely deaths and his innate aversion to forming intimate bonds with others, he never put much thought to the matter of ‘intimacy’ during his time at Hogwarts. It wasn’t until his final year that he opened himself up to another person and with the violent end he experienced with that relationship, he has sworn off intimacy of any kind.
What is your character’s birth-date? How about birthplace and nationality?—
Alastor was born on April 30th in 1944 in a cozy home in Greenock Scotland, the hometown of both his parents, Craig and Malmuira Moody. They worked as Aurors with the Ministry of Magic based in England, but decided to have him in their hometown where their parents (Alastor’s grandparents) still lived. He spent his first two years living with his four grandparents while Craig and Malmuira were on a particularly difficult case, but once they finished, they decided to moved him to London and hired a nanny so they could spend more time with him. He still, however, identifies as Scottish despite the little time he spent growing up there.
Who are your character’s closest relatives? And friends? Briefly explain their relationship. —
Both of Alastor’s parents spent less time at home than they would have liked, often returning to their flat in London late at night, only to rise again in the wee hours. Their positions as acclaimed Aurors perfect role models in Alastor’s eyes which skewed his idea of normal parenting. They were almost as much celebrities to him as they were to the public. It’s not to say he felt disconnected from them on an emotional level, rather, they showed him their love by encouraging him to give everything his all and to give back to the world. He would always be grateful to them for that.
Craig Roderick Moody - Father [1920-1958] 38
Growing up in the quaint fishing town of Greenock Scotland, Craig Moody learned the value of hard-work and perseverance early on in his life. His parents rarely used magic in their home, choosing to -for the most part- live by Muggle means, instilling their belief that magic was a privilege not to be used frivolously when deft hands could get the job done just as well. Though Craig did not carry on this exact parenting method when he became a father, he still put great importance on the lessons he learned in his little home in Greenock. He was a man of few words who, with soft nudges here and pointed looks there, was still able to push Alastor to keep persevering no matter the obstacles he encountered. Craig had an older sister and an uncle who were both accomplished Aurors before him which sparked his desire to become one himself.
Malmuira Isobel Moody (née Lennox) - Mother [1922-1958] 36
The more vocal of the two parents, Malmuira also grew up in Greenock but in a very different household. Instead of reserving magic for only the most difficult problems, nearly every member of her family (save for the cat and a few cousins) were -or were in the process of becoming- Aurors. From an early age she learned how powerful magic was and before she reaching adulthood, had already dedicated her abilities to defending the innocent against dark magic like so many of her relatives. This drive was what brought her and Craig together and when they had Alastor, it was only natural for Malmuira to begin teaching him the same importance of doing good with magic that she learned in her childhood. She would have taught him even more if it wasn’t for her position at the Ministry, taking up much of her time.
Ailsa Grizel Breckenridge - Nanny/Caregiver [1900-1968] 68
The weathered ginger-haired Scottish widow was hired when she replied to the Moody’s job posting by arriving the next day at their doorstep with a short explanation about how she was too from Greenock before sliding herself into the flat to scoop up a crying Alastor- who in turn, immediately stopped sobbing. She was forty-six when she joined the Moody household, her husband killed a few years prior by a band of dark witches and wizards that Craig and Malmuira eventually put away in Azkaban. She jumped at the opportunity to repay the Aurors who made sure the love of her life did not die in vain. She remained with them for the remainder of her life, acting as a grandmother figure, an educator, a disciplinarian, and councilor for Alastor, filling the voids in his parents’ absence. Her cutting humour and infinite patience helped Al warm to her quickly, shaping his own dry and abrasive sense of humour. The cautiousness and need to question everything on the other hand were traits she taught him upon his parents’ strict instruction. She passed away in her sleep exactly a decade after Alastor’s parents were killed.
Kingsley Shacklebolt - Closest Friend
The closest thing Alastor would ever have to a brother, Kingsley Shacklebolt was by his side throughout the darkest times in his life. He and Dumbledore remain the only two people Alastor would trust with his life.
[I’m not sure if you guys plan on writing a playable bio for him so I’m going to leave this short]
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore - Order Leader
Alastor hadn’t heard from Professor Dumbledore since he graduated, though he wasn’t surprised when hewas contacted to join the order, seeing as how the crimes caused by dark magic were steadily climbing along with whispers of a revolt. He has great respect for the man, though he doubts the Order of the Phoenix will be as effective as the headmaster hopes. Alastor keeps things professional between them as best he can.
What is your character’s hometown? Living arrangements? —
Alastor was born in Greenock, Scotland and after spending two years there, he was moved to London to live with his parents. Though he grew up in England, he still speaks with a detectable Gaelic accent and sometimes uses Scottish slang he learned from his parents and Ms. Ailsa. He lived with them up to his second year at Hogwarts, but after their deaths, Ms. Ailsa took him into her own home, selling their house along with the memories it held. After graduation he quickly found his own place, settling in a small apartment in Wizarding London next to Olivander’s.
What is their occupation? Is this what they’ve wanted to do? Does it live up to their expectations? —
Alastor is currently one of the top Aurors of the times, though he is currently battling for the title of the top Auror, a position he used to hold, his steady spiral into heavy alcoholism inhibiting his success. He had always known he would become an Auror and lived his life to reach the goal he was set out to achieve since birth. However, the career doesn’t quite hold the same sweetness or satisfaction he had imagined when he was growing up, his parents’ deaths somehow stripping the life he had envisioned for himself of the happiness or warmth he continues to crave.
What are your character’s feelings on the war as a whole? —
Al thinks it’s inevitable. There will always be dark wizards and witches in the world and it’s only a matter of time before they rise up in an attempt to assume control of the wizarding world. There’s no reason in wishing for a world where everyone shared the same logical ideals because that’s not realistic or even possible. Good can only exist with evil, but the sooner those that practice the Dark Arts learn that good will always prevail, the better. He’s a realist.
III. IN CHARACTER QUESTIONS
If you had the chance to save yourself in a dangerous situation but that meant the death of one of your loved ones, what would you choose? —
Alastor’s lips pressed into a line as a pulse of adrenaline shot through his veins. Half a heartbeat later, he opened his mouth to speak.
“Ah’d die a thousand times over, mate,” he said easily, the words confident on his tongue.
His muscles tensed shortly after, eyes flicking down to his clasped hands on the desk as a burning memory -or rather a vivid product of his imagination- came to mind, sending a shiver down his spine. The vision of his parents tied to wooden chairs, both sat in the centre of a dimly lit cellar, came to mind, often haunted his sleepless nights. The calm expressions on their faces and the stern rebellion flickering hotly behind their eyes just before the life drained from them in a flash of green light lingered painfully. He could only hope he would one day die with such dignity, fighting for the good of humankind until his dying breath.
He willed the feeling of overwhelming sadness to dissipate, clenching his jaw until it did. He looked back up again and plastered an emotionless -but courteous- smile across his face before he reached into his breast-pocket, feeling for the familiar silver metal.
How do you feel about half-breeds and other magical beings, and their place in today’s society? —
Alastor paused his actions, the cap of the flask frozen mid-twist as his brows lowering slightly. He set the flask down with a loud metallic clunk, leaning forward in his seat suddenly, a furrow firmly set between his eyebrows.
”Everyone has a place, nae?" he asked, his voice low but surly around the edges. He wasn’t sure how to compile all the words he could use to describe how he felt about this topic so he let the words tumble freely from his mouth. "Who’s to say a half-blood witch or wizard can’t duel or transfigurate as good as the next pure-blood bastart, ey? Ah’ve known me fair share of muggle-borns who can duel better than half o’Scotland," he spat, pushing against the back if his chair, irritated, adding, "S’bloody awful all this happenin’ to perfectly capable magical folk and innocent muggles.”
He lifted his arms to cross over his chest before realising his flask sat alone on the desk and quickly scooped it up instinctively. With a swift motion he twisted of the cap completely and took a hearty swig, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand before shaking his head in dismay.

Frank Longbottom
Month Day, 1954
Order Of The Phoenix
Former Ravenclaw
— Frank Longbottom was the sort of person who believed that chivalry was immortal. Raised primarily by his mother, Augusta Longbottom never let Frank believe anything otherwise. He was a perfect little gentleman to anyone he met, always holding doors open for others and never forgetting his manners. Despite Augusta’s tendency to be a bit more than overbearing, and slightly less than kind, there was never a shadow of a doubt in Frank’s mind that his mother loved him. She always pushed him to be the best he could be, even if her ways were less than commercial. Frank was forever grateful for that (as was anyone who had ever met the charming lad) because it shaped him into the brave, determined person he grew up to be. When Frank laid eyes on one Alice Fortescue eating ice cream in her uncle’s shop, he knew that she was someone who would change his life. Being the sociable child he was, Frank went right on up to her and started a conversation, instantly charmed by her sweet demeanor. They talked about everything from their favorite flavors of ice cream to what house they wanted to be sorted into once they got to Hogwarts. Both children vowed that when they got to Hogwarts, they would be sorted into Gryffindor together. But it wasn't the case.
— During his years at Hogwarts, Frank was always respected and well-liked. He was prefect during his fifth and sixth years, only to be made Head Boy during his seventh. The keeper on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, Frank was the glue that held everyone together. In fact, that’s how Frank was in general. He was the mediator, the warrior, and the martyr. And, for Alice and Alice only, the lover. After Frank left Hogwarts, he knew exactly what he would do: become an Auror. He knew that would be his fate ever since he was little. He was staunchly determined on ridding the world of Death Eaters and whomever supported the ridiculous, despicable members of society. He wanted to make the world a safe place for not only his family and future children, but also for everyone else. Joining the Auror department, however, was no easy feat. It took long hours, incredible dedication, and caused him to be not only physically exhausted, but emotionally as well. All of these things combined put a heavy strain on his relationship with Alice. Though the duo had dated since the summer after their seventh year, and had been best friends long before that, there was only so much Alice was willing to put up with, and there were times that Frank feared she would leave him for someone who could give her everything she needed.
— Fortunately, Frank’s fears were simply fears, and they never came to fruition. Once he officially became an Auror, he had more time to focus on his relationship. He proposed to Alice, and she accepted without hesitation. Their marriage was shortly afterward, which certainly caused Augusta to throw a fit. But when Frank and Alice waited as long as they did to finally get to that place in their lives, there was no chance they would wait any longer. Not only that, but ever since they joined the Order of the Phoenix, they realized just how precious life was, and they didn’t know how much time they would have left.
" they will not force us, they will stop degrading us. they will not control us, we will be victorious”
— Having received a proper pureblood upbringing, Frank is the picture-perfect gentleman; he knows how to act and what to say in every situation, which fork to use during a fancy dinner party and how to dance with posh women. That, however, was never his preferred role -- being just another pureblood -- and it certainly didn't go well with the burning fire inside him; determined and heroic, Frank will push himself past the breaking point if he has to, just in order to try and save the world. Ultimately, he feels as if he owes the Wizarding World and its inhabitants to try and make a change, to try and stop this brutal war, as he was given everything and they, just because of their blood, were being murdered and tortured. With his duty quite clear in his mind, Frank battles to be the best every day: the best Auror, the best friend, the best husband and, more often than not, that takes a massive toll on the man -- he can't be everything and everywhere at once, and it's only a matter of time until he realizes it.
Matthew Mulciber
Month Day, 1957
Death Eaters
Former Slytherin
— The Mulcibers were never the richest of Pureblood families, but they knew how to play their cards right in society, getting in with all the of the Sacred Twenty Eight. They were the type of the family that did everything they needed to do fit in so when the time came for them to have children, they’d be well connected. Finally, their goal was accomplished and then little Matthew came along, realizing that everything he had was because his parents played games, because they played the societal board of the pureblood society right. From a young age, he not only valued this, but he knew he had to do the same -- something he gladly accepted. They had fought so hard to get into the elite, how could he even rebel against their wishes? Matthew Mulciber was always well-behaved, and was also fed the belief that Pureblood wizards were the only ones worthy of magic -- it was their insurance, to make sure their darling son stayed on the right path.
— Even though his parents prepared him for the world of a pureblooded hierarchy, they neglected to educate Matthew on the fact that not all wizard, witches, and wixen were Pureblooded. Getting to Hogwarts was a shock, to say the least, especially when it came to those he would refer to mudbloods. People with no past magical blood in them -- yet here they were and exhibiting the same magic he had. There were some in his classes who would master spells quicker and faster than him, and a jealousy brewed within him but more so, a paranoia. How could these wizards be more powerful than him but not pure? It scared him, but instead of showing that, he tried to find out how they could possibly have magic running through their veins, often in violent ways. It was only right, wasn’t it? The boy had a sense of entitlement and the fact that no one could understand how they were what they were, how these wizards came to be, frustrated him to the point of near madness. He deserved answers, and no matter how many people he would try to get answers from, they never told him how. Matthew had tried everything, even going as far as to schmooze with the mudbloods, but it was one day he just snapped. No answers were given, and Mary MacDonald was left bloodied, battered, her mind jumbled from the torture he had put her through -- the Imperius was a nasty curse after all.
— Without the connections his family had acquired, Matthew Mulciber would’ve been expelled from Hogwarts immediately for his actions, especially when Mary was one of the victims who didn't dare keep her mouth shut, but instead he was able to finish out his seventh year. He took this as a victory of sorts, and when he graduated there was no question which side he decided to join. Mulciber got the Dark Mark, but still, the previous madness that he had had before didn’t go away -- it grew instead. Soon, he secretly thought of theories of how possibly these muggleborns could be getting magic and the belief that they had somehow stolen it was soon solidified in his mind. How? Question after question rolled around in his brain, his mind tangled up with so many more questions than answers, and whenever the Dark mark burned, signifying that Dark Lord needed his expertise -- he would go. He soon found it was merely a distraction. That the whole war was merely a distraction, and Matthew Mulciber took it upon himself to find the truth about how these mudbloods stole his precious magic from his kind. Not only would this result in him finding the answers his brain was so desperately searching for, but it would also hopefully help him gain more power -- assuring that his family’s name would finally have the presence it deserved. So, searched and searched he did, no matter if it was in books or the dead corpses he left behind -- Matthew Mulciber would find the answers he deserved.
" i know that something is wrong here, i can feel it, but no one believes me ”
— Upon meeting Matthew, you’d never know what was brewing underneath the surface. His only reason for being kind, cordial, even charming to people who aren’t of Pureblood status is to get answers from them. He barely sleeps, between missions and his research, because the need to find out the truth drives him absolutely mental. But, don’t be fooled, Matthew Mulciber is not just a madman, in the root of his anger is fear. Fear that these muggles and mudbloods who have taken the magic from him are just as ruthless as he can be. That maybe, they’ll steal his magic from him one day. That they’ll even have an uprising of some sort, that the Order of the Phoenix is only the beginning of what could be a new age witch hunt. His paranoia is something he truly tries to hide, but after a conversation with the man, you might be left with an eerie feeling that he was just using you, examining you as if you were a specimen in a lab, the whole time.
