My Safe Haven
The night was windy, rain pouring, creating puddles across all of London. I huddled my knees up to my chin, my blanket over my head as I hid myself from the world. I shivered from the cold as well as I shivered from the fear. The men with batons, the nurses, the blood and the screams…my mother; it gave me a headache, no a migraine. ‘Jack run,’ I remember hearing her last words, her soft voice fading slowly as the blood seeped from her body; the body which had hugged me, made me feel warm and safe until she was murdered. ‘You are no good, you little shit,’ the man with a baton had said as he had approached me that day, knocking me out as the nurse behind him simply watched him blankly murder my mother and hurt me. Those horrible bastards.
The memories where getting to me, I felt myself tremble more, beginning to whisper to myself as the thoughts consumed me. “Please- don’t. No stop. I’m sorry- no please.” I grasped onto my knees, hiding my face under the covers. My toes squirmed, creasing the bedsheets underneath them. I poked my head up slowly towards the window, seeing a tree branch scratch against the window pane. It creeped me out, I couldn’t handle staying here another minute and so I ran. I ran out of my room, the covers flying off my blonde hair and landing onto the wooden floor as I ran on. I hurried down the hall, stopping at his room, grasping onto the door handle, pausing to catch my breath, a drop of sweat channelling down my childish face. The adrenaline eased, I managed to take a deep breath before I retreated from the door, taking a few steps back to sit down, cuddling up to my knees once again. I didn’t want to burden him. All these nights I rushed to his room for comfort, begging to sleep in his room. I felt like a brat who didn’t deserve this treatment. Maybe it would be better off if I had died too, then I would still be with my mother, following her steps as we would approach cloud nine.
I heard the door creak, the light falling over my face as the door opened wider, then casting a shadow over me. I looked up from my knees, seeing him stand there, asking, “Why are you sitting there kid?” My jaw slightly dropped, happy to see him again. "Hmm?“ he had pressed on. “You gonna come in or what?”
Jacob Frye. He was the one who took me away from the asylum after my mother died. They treated me like I was nothing, a pile of trash…no, a piece of meat to experiment on. Jacob saved me from that hell hole and I owned my life to him, for everything he had done for me. Jacob had let go of the door handle, now leaning against the door frame. He was shirtless and I was able to see one of his tattoos, the large bird on his left chest while he had a cross on his bicep. He had chest hair that ran down his stomach, brown locks that were slicked back but messier and green-brown eyes. It was always a challenge trying to remember which colour eyes he had because they seemed to change colour in different lightning. He was a unique man.
I looked up at him, asking with uncertain eyes, “Is…is that okay?” Jacob merely scoffed, now fully leaning his body weight against the doorframe, a smirk crossing his face.
"What do you think? Come on in.“
I looked up at him with a open smile, standing up slowly before stepping forward and passing him in the doorway.
With his back still turned away from me, he said, "You need to sleep. And me too.”
“Yes sir,” I whispered quietly.
“No. Try again.”
“Jacob.”
“That’s better.”
I turned my head slightly to see him turn, a smile on his lips. My eyes followed him as he walked pass, messing up my hair playfully, surprising me enough to jerk up slightly.
“Come on. Let’s get into the bed,” Jacob said with a yawn, scratching his neck before running his hand through his hair. I blushed as I arranged my hair, never getting so much affection. I stood there for a moment, feeling awkward to share a bed with Jacob and I didn’t want to sleep so I wouldn’t get nightmares and I just began to stutter.
“…I…I just um…well I don’t think-”
“Bed. Now,” Jacob said as he gave me an angered look.
“Alr-alright,” I jerked up a bit. Jacob gestured his hand towards the bed, me hesitantly walking over to it, climbing across it before sliding myself underneath the sheets. I felt Jacob lay down beside me, pulling the covers covers over my shoulder. He laid himself onto his back, his left arm laying beneath his head, him smiling up at the ceiling.
“So,” he begun suddenly, “nightmare again?”
I was shocked he had guessed it and asked, “How did you know that?”
I heard him scoff softly before saying, “I know everything. I have skill.”
“How?”
“I will teach you someday when you grow big enough and are trained.”
“Exactly when?” I asked.
“Not now for sure. So sleep kid. Or you won’t grow up enough to learn cool stuff.”
“Okay sir…Jacob,” I corrected.
“Good boy.” The words echoed in my mind. I was safe with him and he was there for me. Once I was old enough I knew I would be able to learn all the stuff he knew. I just had to wait patiently. I closed my eyelids before shortly falling asleep.
Goodnight Jacob. - This is a fanfic based off of @whrorong Jack the Ripper comic. I absolutely love that comic because it makes me feel different emotions and I can’t handle how good it’s draw. And thank you so much whrorong for letting me write this. It’s like got terrible grammar (I think) but I tried my best to make it interesting. So I hope you enjoyed!
(Please don't repost or claim this fanfic as your own. Thank you.)
