As an artist I've taken course and done work based in the tradition of the Masters. (Da Vinci, Rembrandt, etc.) Even though art, in the sphere of education, is seen as a more feminine field there are still tremendous gaps in the amount of popularity of female artists and their earnings when compared to male artist. Despite that we work and we preserver.Â
In the tradition of art subject matter has also been very male oriented and driven. We have statues from the Roman Empire that glorify the male physique and paintings from the 1700s forward that depict hunting, dueling and other male centric activities. Women in art was not common and in some arenas even scandalous (female models were typically prostitutes).Â
I'm calling for a regendering of art and it's subject matter; the messages it sends to the public and what we can say with it. In response I want to use my own photographic, painting and drawing experience to show the world in a new light.Â
I want to redefine the nude figure in drawing and the activities we present for each gender in painting and photography. Each piece will regender the art world physically, and spiritually; creating a space for conversation regarding roles of all gender identities.
