People stop me every day to look at my tattoo. And they always take a picture with it on their phone. Always. I find it amazing that for every single day since he died, I’ve heard someone in traffic playing his songs. Not matter what part of the city. Downtown. Beverly Hills. Watts. San Pedro. Woodland Hills. Pacoima. Hollywood. Everywhere. And it’s a never the same song either. It’s both his hit singles and the deep cuts on his early mixtapes. I’ve seen no less then 20 murals created all over the area. In his honor, two rival gangs arranged a truce, Barack Obama made an official statement, and the city of LA officially designated an intersection in his name. Like Bob Marley, Muhammad Ali, and Elvis, he became an iconic symbol immediately after he passed. So when certain people look at me funny, wondering why I have a tattoo of a rapper on my forearm, I don’t even bother to go into explanation.
