"Was It The Boogieman?" || Crime AU
Snarling, Vitani lurched forward and grabbed him. “No, you’re going to tell me where the bomb is, I’ll disable it, you’ll get arrested and you’ll die in a cell!” And she would take a long holiday for several weeks, with Luke, Throwing him away, Vitani went back to searching.
Looking at her, he simply laughed and shook his head. "I like to make you sweat." he snarled at her, his eyes narrowing. "I want to see you and the rest of your team scream! I am the Boogieman, bitch!”
Ignoring him, Vitani scoured the building for anything that could be, or hide a bomb. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she counted down the seconds, surely several minutes had passed by now. If there was a bomb at all. Even though her hands were shaking, Vitani took some pride in that the Boogieman killer had been stopped, even at the cost of her own death.

Wheeling around, hair flying, Vitani was beyond angry. This would be the second time that he had tried to tip the scales in his favour. Not this time. “Why shouldn’t I?” She growled continuing in her search. She should just kill him there and then, but then she wouldn’t know where the bomb was.
"Because you won’t find it." he told her simply. "And you can’t kill me, either because you want to know where it is. Let’s keep tensions running high, shall we? It’s more fun that way." If he was going to die, he was going to go out with not only a bang but with the screams of others.

"Always am." She tried to smile. "I’ll figure something out, now, you have to leave. Right now." Before he could protest, she was already bolting back into the building, searching through everything to try and find the bomb.
James called off the cars and told everyone to evacuate the surrounding neighbourhood. Who knew how strong this blast was going to be. The Boogieman, sensing that Vitani would go after the bomb, ran down the stairs to the level where it was and stood opposite her. "I wouldn’t." he warned.

"James! I can’t risk the lives of this entire force! This will be the only thing to stop him, you have to trust me." Three minutes was enough time to keep the Boogieman occupied whilst she disabled the bomb or escape.
James bit on his lip. He couldn’t let her die, but he knew he had to make a decision right here and now. Time was of the essence and he was certain the Boogieman knew that. Selfish bastard. "Fine." he said firmly. "And Leo…" He paused, looking her in the eye. "Stay safe."

"Three minutes. I don’t know if it’s the truth, but you have to leave. I can hold him back as long as I can, but you have to go." Let the partial truth die with her. Vitani kept glancing back at the Boogieman, he truly was crazy. "James, just go."
"No!" he exclaimed. "I won’t let you die with him, dammit!" He refused to let a good friend and detective die at such a young age for the sake of a lunatic with a bomb. It wasn’t right.

A suicidal killer. That was something Vitani hadn’t been expecting. Forgetting all about the case and finding answers, Vitani ran down the length of the building back to the collection of cars. “James! You have to go! This building is stuffed with explosives, he’s gonna take us all down, you have to leave.”
Oliver looked over his shoulder as she ran. The game was over. He’d had fun. Everything was over now. James, seeing Vitani, found himself running forward and taking her arms as she pushed him back. Eyes wide, he picked up his radio and shouted into the receiver. "The building is rigged. I repeat - there is a bomb within the building!" he told them before turning back to Vitani. "How long?"

If he meant the afterlife, which Vitani guessed he did, then it wasn’t going to happen. Lifting her chin, she almost breathed a sigh of relief hearing cars pulling up. “Just give up.” She murmured. “Give up now. While you still can.” Make it easy on her.
"I’m sorry, Leo…" he said rhythmically. "But if I go down, you’re coming with me." He looked almost pitiful, his eyes glazed over with nothing but sympathy lining his hues. "The building is rigged with explosives. It’ll blow up in three minutes and all your little friends will be obliterated with us."

"All I want is answers." Vitani murmured. His laughter sent goosebumps rising on her arms. Eyes flickered from side to side, praying that James would hurry up, if she got her hints at all. Vitani did not want to die here.
"You’ll have ‘em when ya talk to the rest of the people I’ve scared." he replied with a shrug, looking at her in an eerily comforting way. Hearing noises from below, he looked to see cars arriving. No doubt there would be police all around the building soon.

"Why does a Boogieman enjoy creating such nightmares?" Vitani asked, maybe a little psychology to try and figure him out. By now James should have got to her note, be on his way, if she could stay alive until then, find out the Boogieman’s secrets. All this could be forgotten.
A laugh erupted from Oliver and he shook his head. “Don’t try your technical bullshit on me, Leo…” he murmured, folding his arms and sighing heavily. “It’s very borin’.” By this time, James was reaching the street, jumping out of his car as fast as he could.

Raising her chin, Vitani watched every move of his, trying to figure him out. “And do these people tell you who to kill, or is that all your doing?” There had to be a link, something piecing them together. It could simply be mindless killing, Vitani refused to see it that way.
"That’s me." he replied with a short shrug of his green shoulders. "I decide who I want for my victims, just as the Boogieman should." His eyes restlessly wandered over her, trying to pick up her weakest point.

She wanted the upper hand here, now that she was in front of him, she had to pretend that she wasn’t afraid. “What I want to know is how you know so much about me.” The photographs, the little pieces of information used against her, even the contents of her wardrobe! All the while, she hoped James had found her small signs.
"I see things. People tell me what I need to know." he replied simply, moving one step down closer to her with eyes shimmering in the dusty light that cast through the cracks in the building. Meanwhile, James had arrived at Vitani’s flat to find it empty and raced to the ringed map on the table. "27TH STREET!" he screamed. "HURRY!"
