i think one reason that, in general, jasper fans are so chill and definitely not That Kind Of Steven Universe Fan is because jasper fans aren’t afforded the same entitlement. from the getgo, we’ve been trained to think, “damn i love this woman and i think there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye, but they’re never gonna redeem her, and we’re never gonna get to see things from her eyes.” so when people oppose us its like, yeah, whatever, we get enough shit from canon. ignore.

whereas with characters like pearl or lapis, things tend to go how they like. pearl always feels good about herself. lapis always has fun and always punches the “bad guy”. bad arcs like cry for help or barn mates are GUARANTEED to wrap up nicely. which is why their diehards act so entitled — because that’s how their characters have been treated so far.

jasper’s standards, in comparison, are pretty pathetic. gem hunt was perhaps the biggest party for the jasper lovers because it was the first time in canon that she ended an episode NOT pulled under the ocean, dropped down a hole, or punched to oblivion — it was the first time we saw her come into and leave a scene out of her own free will. bitch, we don’t care if she’s being awful. at least she wasn’t yanked around on a chain.

so OF COURSE we aren’t entitled to things going our way. even if we want jasper redemption, the whole series has classically conditioned us to doubt it’ll ever happen.
