//Not sure if I should bring Miles back or not
The fact that he knew came as even more of a surprise as he was so reluctant to join her, Aaron, and Maggie in the beginning. Charlie trusted him more than anyone else, though⊠Sometimes, even more than herself. Nothing would change how she much she cared for Miles and nothing would change the fact that she wanted to stay by his side through everything.
âScrew the fact that you didnât tell me. Youâre the only person who has ever put me first,â She inhaled deeply, âMiles, youâre the only person who hasnât left me in one way or another. There are times when you couldâve left, there are times when you probably should have, but you didnât. Why?â
MIles wasnât used to being in this position. But he really should have been at this point. HIs niece had a way of constantly surprising him just when he thought he had her all figured out. It was strange because Miles pretty much figured he had the whole world pegged into nice, neat little boxes.
âI care about you,â he admitted. âIâm better when youâre around and even though I hate it...youâre right a lot of the time. Back in that bar...I wansât living there, Charlie. I just surviving. It was a place to rot while I watched my best friend steam roll the entire continent. But when youâre around...I can live with myself better. I like the choices I make around you. And I know I wonât be able to make them when Iâm on my own.â There were other reasons. Ones he couldnât even admit to himself just yet but this was a good starting point.

Miles stopped cleaning glasses to stare at Gina and the thing in her arms. âWhy are you carrying around a wet sack of fur?â

Rachel Matheson was planning on leaving everyone. Apparently the life was getting to be âtoo muchâ for the woman. Naturally, she wished for her daughter to go with her.
âYou didnât get anything from Miles,â Retorted Rachel, âHeâs not your uncle. Heâs not related to Ben and heâs not related to you. Heâs not family, but I am. Come with me.â
âSince when are we family? Heâs been there for me more than you ever were!â
Rachel glanced over Charlieâs shoulder, demanding the child she abandoned to get her when she was ready to leave before making her way to gather her belongings.
Charlie sighed and turned around to see Miles. She wasnât sure how much of the conversation the man had heard, but she couldnât prevent herself from thinking more about the fact that they werenât relatives.

Miles heard everything. It was hard not to when they were screaming at each other. But he gazed at Charlie as Rachel stormed out in one of her teenage snits. She was more of a child than the blonde looking at him some days. âSheâs right,â he said. âIâm not technically your uncle. I was adopted by the Mathesons when I was a baby and Iâve never known any family but them but Iâm not actually related to you by blood. Iâd understand if youâre upset because I didnât tell you.â

â what are you even wearing ? â
âUh... a shirt and jeans?â
"there's my favorite barmaid. Gina, why can't you be ten years older so I don't feel rude when I look at your ass?"
@regretandsassâ
âFavorite, huh?â Scoffing, she turns and moves a few feet down to give someone their drink with a winning smile. When she looks back at him, the grin drops off of her face and is replaced with dry amusement. âI didnât realize being rude was such a problem for you.â Turning around to reach for something she taunts, âDonât you mean twenty years?â
âI like pretty things,â he replied, pulling out some more moonshine. âAnd it normally isnât. But Iâd like you to stick around so I can keep staring at your ass.â He scowled at her words. âIm not that old.â
"is that my shirt?"
Send me âIs that my shirt?â for my muses reaction to getting caught wearing your muses shirt
âNo?â she looked down, âI donât think it is?â
âYou sure? Looks like the one I lost last week.â
"Excuse me. I'm about to go home to masturbate and I need a name to go with the face."
â you know, you could just take ME home instead. â
âNever let it be said that I turned down an invitation like that.â

//Sorry guys, the arm is acting up again. Â Iâll be on tomorrow.
what was your first impression of me VS your current impression of me
Marcus had to refrain from punching him in the face, multiple times. âSo you only cared about our people dying when we were in space,â he said. âSorry for mistaking you for someone who wanted to protect those in danger, my badâ. He moved to leave. âGood luck with your plans,â he added. âAnd - if you ever call Abby âmy girlâ in front of her - sheâs probably going to slap you so hard youâll regret ever speaking to herâ.
âI didnât send 100 children down to Earth with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a âmay we meet againâ,â he retorted.  âDonât act like Iâm the hypocrite here.  You can pretend youâve changed your colors but you and I both know what you really are.â  Miles took another swig from his bottle.  âYou know I like it rough,â he winked. âSo where are you going anyway?  And is there a good chance you wonât come back because Iâm excited for that.â
âOne day I hope youâll come in here and surprise me,â he replied. He swiped the container from her. Weed wasnât his usual style but he could use a little himself and sell the rest for some better shit.  âThis is good enough to get you two flasks. Unless youâre looking for something else whil youâre here.â He took a bottle and began to fill up a flask. âYou got the bottle I gave you last time?â
âI think the only way Iâll surprise you is if I suddenly stop showing up,â Harper grinned in response. Miles was one of the few âadultsâ she liked, probably because he was shady as shit. She grabbed the bottle from her waist band, handing it over to him before decidedly taking a seat. Her friends werenât expecting her for an hour, so she had some time to kill anyway. âHow about some company? Whatâs that worth to you?â
âThat is very true,â he agreed. Â He took the bottle and tucked it away with the rest of his stash. Â Bottles were very precious up here. Â He wasnât goign to let some guard fuck it up. Â âThat would depend on the kind of company youâre talking about. Â I am twice your age after all. Â But if youâre here to talk shit about the higher ups, Iâm more than happy.
Weird Old Guy:
âWell itâs not the first time Iâve been drinking alone. So whatâs your story? Other than youâre a survivor. Which is important but not the whole story. So letâs here the whole story. If you donât mind.â
âI donât even know you.â Murphy said, fixing the man with a look that more or less said, âyeah, no thanks.â It wasnât like most of the people down here didnât know what heâd been through, but, it was rare to meet someone who didnât. Heâd like it to stay that way. Kept him from passing judgement.Â
âAt least you all are smart. Â Suppose you thave to be to keep up down here. Â But Iâm Miles Matheson. Formerly Commander Miles Matheson. Â but that was another life and now Iâm just a bartender.â
âI may have punched him.â

âWhy⊠ You know, actually, Iâm not gonna ask. Is your hand hurt?â
âyou kids are a confusing lot. But I guess that comes when youâre struggling to survive on your own. For what itâs worth, I think what Jaha pulled was stupid as fuck. Not to mention a dick move.â
âThanks.â Monroe replied. âthatâs good to hear. Lots of people think what he did was a god send.â
âThosse people are stupid. Â Kids shouldnât be sent down with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Â But you showed them in the end. Â They expected you to die. Â And you didnât. Â In fact you thrived.â
