New Fiction - work in progress
New Fiction – work in progress
I know, I’ve been quiet lately. Too quiet. Well that’s because I’m working on my next novel. Very slowly. It was originally intended to be a follow up to Tom Calder, but my brain refused to cooperate, and so I’ve gone down a completely different road. This is a Very rough draft of chapter one. I’d be interested to know if you think it’s worth me continuing.  Chapter 1 “Mom, where’s my homework?”…

Acknowledgements for Tom Calder – Surfer PI
I would like to express my gratitude to all those who provided support, talked things over, read, offered comments and assisted in the creation of this book. Thanks specifically to Noor, Marie, Rousseau, Amanda, Lesley, Sidh, Blue, Zelkina, and especially to Aurore … your support means a lot. Above all I would like to thank my family, who supported and encouraged me in spite of the fact that…

Tom Calder - Surfer PI
Tom Calder – Surfer PI
Tom Calder is a surfer who, for the last couple of years, has earned a crust as a private detective. It’s not as glamorous as it may sound. Basically, he gets to follow guys around and find out if they’re cheating on their wife, and vice versa. Leaping into the ocean and dragging people screaming to the shoreline is not his normal day to day business. And neither is investigating the murder of a…

It’s done. I’ve hit the publish button, and … it’s live. I still can’t believe it, but here you go. Tom Calder- Surfer PI … available now on Amazon in kindle ($0.99 … or $1.27, meh I set it at $0.99) or paperback format ($6.00). Interestingly, the UK kindle version is free with Kindle Unlimited. I have no idea. I clicked all the stuff it said, and Amazon kinda did their own thing. Anyways, that’s…

And still publishing ….
Arggggggggggggggggggh Writing this damn book was easier than sorting out the cover. Struggled for 2 hours to get a picture of the right dpi. Each time I select one, even their inbuilt pictures, the DPI is wrong. Eventually, after much swearing, using an online program and saving the file in some weird format, I actually made the right picture the right DPI. Wooohooo. So, final checks, then I can…

Still publishing
So, I’ve decided to self publish … got my Amazon account all hooked up and downloaded their templates and software to help me create my ebook and print edition. The ebook creation went fairly well. The ebook cover was fairly painless. Well, alright, so it took a lot of tweaking and playing with, but it’s the first time I’ve done this, so there’s a learning curve. Set a price of $0.99 – the lowest…

Publishing a book
Ok, so long time since I posted, but that’s because I’ve been busy in RL, and on polishing my Tom Calder/nano story for publication. Should be ready within the week (fingers and toes crossed). More news to follow.

Nano 2015 – Chapter 20
Nano 2015 – Chapter 20
I watched the interrogation back at Police HQ from the relative darkness of the side room, through the one-way mirror. Benny joined Flint inside the brightly lit room, sitting down on the third plastic chair. I wasn’t sure it was going to take both of them to question her. From where I stood, she seemed completely deflated. She had done ever since Flint asked her to accompany him back for…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 19
I timed the journey to the Read’s apartment. We deliberately didn’t rush, and it still only took us six minutes. Read was not too thrilled to find us back on his doorstep. “What are you doing here again? This is bordering on harassment, Detective.” He turned his wrath on me. “And as for you, I hired you to find my daughter’s murderer, not to badger me with ridiculous questions.” Flint smiled…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 18
I headed back to my place the following morning, leaving Jake at Uncle Marks, with Zak. Uncle Mark was heading into work as well, but Jake would be fine with Zak to keep an eye on him. Digger’s SUV was parked in my driveway, alongside my own Jeep. I was happy to see it. The Escape had been alright, as a short term loan, but it didn’t really suit me. The Jeep was way more my style. The new front…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 17
Duval lived in a condo in southwest Hillington. It was pretty close to the beach and a number of up market stores, so I guessed it came with an impressive price tag. The parking lot was tastefully landscaped, with colorful shrubbery, all pretty low maintenance. Duvals condo was a lower unit, usually described as “easy access without the hassle of stairs”. Basically, it meant that the best views…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 16
Flint insisted we stop by my place first, so I could drop the SUV off and pick up my gun. I wasn’t thrilled at the idea of carrying my gun around, but Flint was right. If I was going to act as his partner, albeit temporarily and unofficially, I ought to be prepared to do the job correctly. Jake and Zak were happily playing chase with a ball in the garden. Well, Zak was happily chasing and Jake…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 15
The following morning, I left Jake babysitting Zak, or was it Zak babysitting Jake, and headed towards Julia Anderson’s place. Despite her insistence that she had no idea where Jackson Stanislau was, I was pretty damn sure she knew exactly where he was, and I needed to speak to him. I didn’t think he’d killed Sarah Read. I didn’t even think he’d been the current boyfriend when she died, but maybe…

Nano 2015 – Chapter 14
Flint dropped me back at Uncle Marks, and I grinned as I spotted Sam’s VW in the driveway again. “Come on in. Say hi.” Flint ummed and ahed, but I eventually got him out of the car and into the house. Alright, so I was going to pay for this later, but … well I just couldn’t resist. Flint and Sam caught sight of each other at the same time, and both took a semi step back, before smiling politely.…

Surfer Sunday. The best day of the week. The day when most people aren’t working and are free to surf. Surfer Sunday isn’t written in stone. It depends on various things, like the waves, the weather, and the time of the tides, but it’s usually a great chance to hang out with other surfers, ride some waves, and eat junk food. Today’s venue was a spot up the coast, with a nice sandy beach and no…
