I haven’t been around so this has probably been discussed but listening to eldest daughter today and thinking about the bridge and this:
Cause I thought that I’d never find that, beautiful, beautiful life that, shimmers that innocent light back
And I don’t know if she meant it like this but I heard it as the light she’s putting out is finally being reflected back to create this shimmering happiness.
So many of her previous songs are talking about what she gave or would give
Give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come
Give you my wild, give you a child
Gave you all my best me’s, my endless empathy
And this album is full of the ways they both give to each other:
You had to make your own sunshine (said to each of them)
You and me we make our own luck
And this is why before she could only see a sad dark future that she hoped could be enough for someone and now sees this shimmering beautiful life she thought she could never have because someone is finally shining that light back to her. It’s the difference between:
I knew there was no one in the world who could take it, I had a bad feeling
a bad sign is all good, I ain’t gotta knock on wood
I never had the courage of my convictions as long as danger is near and it’s right around the corner darling, cause it lives in me, no I could never give you peace
All the right guys promised they’d stay, under bright lights they withered away, but you bloom
Is it really your anxiety that keeps you from giving me everything or do you just not want to?
You can call me honey if you want because I’m the one you want. You give it different meaning, cause you mean it when you talk
I’m just happy she’s getting the beautiful life she wants with a partner who is in it with her.
