Not actually back. But just wanted to say While You Were Sleeping would make an amazing lickey AU. The movie’s even set in Chicago. It’s perfect.
Big fan of romances that revolve around two very strange individuals weirdo maxxing together
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) dir. Frank Darabont
Ok but.
Hear me out. Lighthouse guardian Mickey who took on the job because after growing up with Terry — not to mention his little sister fucking off with a boyfriend and reinventing herself far away — he needed his own alone time. To figure some things out. Set his head straight before he ends up in prison (not a minor anymore, he can’t take that shit lightly). Except, he never developed the skills to be on his own and I don’t mean cooking and cleaning. I mean mentally, the long hours of the day with only his own thoughts as companions. His own memories crowding in as if the people from the old neighborhood were right there with him.
Fucking ghosts. But he’s haunting himself. Lingering on things that he thought he’d gotten over years ago.
He might be going slightly stir crazy talking to himself out loud. The toaster has a personality. Or maybe it’s just the old electric wiring in this crumbling tower that sputters in sparks and false starts on days where it’s particularly humid (which is most days).
Then, one morning, as he’s doing his rounds, he finds a guy half drowned face down in the wet sand. The rising tide and undertow almost claim him before Mickey can reach his body.
The guy’s alive. But barely just. He drags him to the lighthouse. Wraps him in one of the hypothermia blankets from his emergency kit and puts him on the cot next to the wood stove.
The hours drag on and the guy is still unconscious. Mickey doesn’t dare let him fully out of his sight, not entirely sure if his mind conjured him out of thin air; there were no signs of a shipwreck so how the fuck did he get here? Two miles off the mainland? He’s finally gone mad, hasn’t he?
Then the guy wakes up.
Well, I did it over a few weeks, but I'm finally done editing and annotating the printed drafts for the Lickey College AU. And over the past few evenings I've typed the editing notes on the computer and merged the different documents into one (mostly) linear draft.
With all that, you'd think it's some massive story, but the draft is currently only at 6.8k... I estimate it's going to be 8-10k once done.
A poll crossed my dash a couple days ago, asking writers if they write linearly or not. I've never been able to write linearly, and it's becoming obvious that I need a new system, because it ends up adding hours of work to every project.
Fingers crossed, but I think I can fill about 2/3 of the whumptober prompts using my current Lip x Mickey WIPs.
Mostly, I'll be focusing on the siren!Mickey horror fic I started last May while working to complete the drabble compilation. I started out writing something for the mermaid trope, but the draft just grew too big and needed to become a separate fic. Also, the tone leaned towards psychological horror and it would've felt weird to leave it with the other trope drabbles.
Literally, why am I not working on my Lip x Mickey prison AU? It's the fic I feel most inspired by, and the most emotional attachment to. I keep daydreaming about scenes. I made a playlist for it. There are songs for specific scenes even.
But it's going to take for fucking ever to write, and I want the satisfaction of posting things on a regular basis. ;-;
But but. Can't seem to make myself care about my other WIPs so instead I'm just working on nothing and getting no satisfaction either way.
Think it's the summertime blues kicking my ass. probably.
Writing update since it’s been a little over a month.
I chipped away at 4 different WIPs: Salt and Water’s chapter 2, a College AU one-shot, the 5+1 kisses, and the Prison AU.
My attention keeps flitting from one to the other so progress is slow. But there is progress.
The Prison AU (working title is Playing for Keeps) has reached 30k. Mostly outlines of scenes, but a few more fleshed out bits here and there.
I’ve also started doing research on the prison system in the US and that’s definitely helped me feel a little more confident. Both for Salt and Water and Playing for Keeps. I know they’re just fanfics, but I didn’t want the portrayal of prisons to be completely ungrounded in reality. (Though, the more research I do, the more it seems like Shameless’ showrunners did less research than me…)
i think ive moved beyond yearning into something even more humiliating
Most infuriating part of writing is having an idea and thinking oh, this is gonna be so good and wanting to IMMEDIATELY share the vision with other people because it's gonna be good but then you start writing it down and - it is gonna be good. Except. It is also gonna take so, so, so long to finish. And in the meantime. You are the only one with The Vision. Alone. Losing your mind. 😭
I mean, is that true? Are you a little bitch? MICKEY & LIP S04E10―Liver, I Hardly Know Her [deleted scene] S08E11―A Gallagher Pedicure

lovely character. i need him to finally break down sobbing clutching his chest like it'll stop the pain crumpling to the floor begging God to either help him or let him die
he was openly bisexual. he didn't know that but he was
