Sweet Nophica’s teats, do I agree. How they went from the beautiful, character-development-filled rambling bard’s tale that was HW to this shite is so disappointing. Keeping it spoiler-free but salty: they basically sacrificed all interesting characterization and storytelling style in order to shoehorn in some historical filler lore about the Autumn War. Because it’s Stormblood and everything just has to relate to Ala Mhigo or Doma somehow. They cut out nearly all of Sanson and Guydelot’s interesting interactions (shippy or otherwise) and just made them blandly “Well I guess we’re getting along now for the sake of the mission.” Guydelot was painfully out-of-character until maybe level 68. They even managed to make the villain astoundingly uninteresting.

Waiting two years for a follow up from 3.0 was hard enough, but 4.0 was so unsatisfying that it’s going to be an even harder wait till 5.0 T_T Ah, the pain of loving job quest NPCs.

Tag List & Tag Cloud Generator for Tumblr

As I already said a few days ago, since the post-theory.com tag cloud generator doesn’t work anymore, I’ve been working on a website where you can create tag lists and tag clouds to embed into your theme. At this point I think it is stable enough to let other people use it. I might add additional features and fix bugs if any show up over the coming weeks. Currently the configuration options look like this:

SKYBEAR RETURNS: THE SAVIOR OF STARLIGHT!

Hundreds of years ago, rumors cropped up about a cryptid old books called “Skybear”. Said to be a bear, a man, a man bear, or even a man bear boar, the one fact the stories agreed upon is that Skybear resembled a bear and could fly. Said to be native to the Western Coerthan Highlands, Skybear was said to be a benevolent entity which saved lost travelers and those who found themselves lost in winter storms, carrying them to safety before flying off once more to the horizon. Over time, the legend grew, but Skybear’s last sighting was decades ago.

Until now.

To the surprise of the entire realm, Skybear has come to save Starlight this year. In the wake of the upheaval, the violence, the war, the uncertainty, many wondered if a proper Starlight celebration was even possible. Skybear must surely have sensed this uncertainty, and has come to spread the seasonal cheer we all know and love.

Skybear’s first reported act since his return was to fly above a man trying to sell gifts to children, and encouraging them to steal to be able to afford said gifts. Utilizing his signature attack, “DESCENDING BEAR” (an acronym whose meaning is lost to the ages), Skybear mauled the would-be theftmaster and instead sold the presents to the children at a reasonable price, with a kick of primo fogweed thrown in for good measure.

Skybear’s most recent act of heroism, now clad in the garb of the Saint of Nymeia, was to face down a band of bandits about to rob a traveling merchant who was bringing Starlight gifts between cities. Without attacking, Skybear was able to stare the bastards down, fighting them with the power of raw passive aggression. Unable to handle his Caring Bear Stare, the bandits fled, and Skybear’s instincts as an apex predator led to him chasing down and mauling all of them to death before once more sailing off into the distance.

Where will Skybear next show himself? No one can say for sure, but this reporter hopes it’s in Ul’dah.

Anthony Hawke is hoping for some of that fogweed.
