Scribbles
There sit a couple of kids, with some ghastly fried dish in between them. They’re not eating it. They’re poking at it. What the hell is it?
That girl looks like she’s about to hurl. She’s smiling but she definitely looks like she’s going to hurl. Maybe she’ll hurl with a smile. On that... thing.
Man, that looks grim. Just way too grim for how young they are. What’s the problem? Are the “feelings” too rich? I fucking love it. Can’t get enough of these somber twenty-something-year-olds pensive together over fried onions.
They just need a good fight. A ruthless, sweaty, long fight that stabs at each other’s soft spots. So they can gush out all the things—things that inhibit them from being who they really are. Why aren’t they saying so little to each other? For all you know a shooting spree might happen in five minutes—this is America!
Sure, I’d know all about ruthless fights. I’ve had some good ones and it all worked out fine, didn’t it. What am I even doing here? Sitting here every day like somebody’s going to notice me. Good, the ex-wife calls. If I pick up this phone and start talking, people WILL start noticing.
I wish I was that young again. I want to care enough to be grim. I want to eat that awful looking thing, go for a mindless fuck with my completely O.K. stomach even after that fried garbage food, fall into a deep nap and wake up with all of the intensities of the new... feelings.
Good. They’re off now. Good for them.
I’ll just sit here and scribble some more.

the theme is anxiety
you tell me about the time you faked your own death
floating belly down in the bathtub
until your sister walked in
she screamed your name
you sat up in the tub
and laughed
she clutched her chest
walked out
and you went back to sticking your toe into the spigot
you were looking for rust
and that was
that.
