Kirishima is vivid proof of that — and Asuka’s best example.

She managed to present the seemingly most overused trope of the “bad boy” in such a remarkable way.

Yet she revealed him so deeply, gave him depth, and put him through redemption in a way that we could understand and feel it ourselves — and that feeling became far stronger than if everything had been served on a silver platter.

In the end, you realize on your own that you can love even a red flag character like him.

When I say I have stupid hyperfixations, I really mean they’re stupid. They’re unusual, like others’ fixations, but definitely silly. For example, last week I got hyperfixated on a TikTok video about Thai boxing where a guy in the corner drinks water and then kisses the guy handing him the water on the cheek.

This week, I got hooked on a video where a good-looking guy tries to get the attention of his desk neighbor—a girl in glasses and a neat, top-student school uniform. He was touching her, laughing, and giving her flirty looks. The video had a song with a suggestive vibe, and there was another video with her where the song was also hinting, “What are you waiting for, kiss me.”

I don’t know why, but I love these kinds of things, and I get hyperfixated on them, thinking about them at night.

You know, my frustration has reached its peak. Today, the translation of chapter 35 of *You Are Life* finally came out in my native language. Even though I read it a long time ago, it’s still one of the best chapters so far, especially in terms of Kirishima’s development and his love story. But instead of the fandom in my language finally understanding him as a character and stopping the hate, they wrote in the comments, “So now Kirishima will finally stop sleeping with women?” Dude, it’s been 35 chapters! He pretty much stopped doing that around chapter 20, in the early arcs! Now they’re literally showing you how he’s afraid of losing Yoshino and how he loves her, and you’re *still* talking about this? Some readers have already explained to them that, for heaven’s sake, this is a yakuza story, and he’s someone who grew up and was shaped by that world. Stop shoving this “he sleeps with women” narrative into every single thing!
