Every 40 seconds someone dies by suicide. Reblog this to show people that you care about them. Suicide isn’t the answer.
I’ve Graduated with my Masters
In May I graduated with my Masters and completed my time at Mills College and my time as an RA. The last 3 years being an RA has been the most meaningful job and experience I could have imagined.
I could write a long sentimental post about what being an RA meant to me, but for now I’m just going to say I wouldn’t have changed a thing about college. If you’re debating whether or not to apply, I encourage you to apply -- the skills gained are invaluable.
Since I have finished my time as being an RA this blog will slow down in activity. I will still answer any questions I receive, and may post things I find on Pinterest or Tumblr that I think are clever or creative -- but personal content will cease.
Thanks to all who have read and followed this blog. Thank you for being part of my RA family.
Good information for a silent program
I have a great hall of residents!
I really do love being RA of my hall and the people who live in the hall.
My boss is gone next week...
So I’m in charge of the staff meeting and get to do what I want at the meeting. What would you want to happen at the ultimate staff meeting?
The ACs just sent an e-mail saying it’s Surprise RA/AA Appreciation Week. They are putting treats in the office kitchen every day for us to grab.
At first I was like:
Then I was like:
But you know, I’m finishing the first full draft of my thesis so now I’m just like:
This is such sad news for liberal art colleges, and women colleges in particular.
This week, Sweet Briar College announced this will be their final academic year and that the college will not reopen for the Fall of 2015.
I attended a women's college for the four years of my undergraduate academic career and it was a life changing experience that I do not think I would receive at a co-ed institution. The lessons learned in a women's institution goes beyond the classroom and transcend into how we will interact and contribute to our community and industry. While there may be a stigma attached to a women's institution, I feel it is hard to disagree that the women who emerge from such an institution are strong leaders and ready to change the world. Fifty years ago there were 230 women colleges in the United States, and with the close of Sweet Briar there will only be 41 women colleges open for the upcoming academic year. Women colleges are an important, and fading, institution of higher education and women's advancement.
I am proud that Mills College (my alma mater) is standing in unity with other women colleges to support Sweet Briar during their transition and the students that are displaced by the closer. I hope that those who are attending Sweet Briar, or would have attended, consider Mills as a place they can continue their education and feel supported in the goals of a women's institution.
Mental Disorders
This makes me happy with the awareness.
Some of these cross over. It’s not unheard of for people to have multiple disorders or for people with other disorders to become depressed.
oh my god a post on tumblr actually acknowledging the existence of personality disorders do my eyes deceive me
Things to think about
I got to talk about this blog in a professional (none student development related) fellowship interview this afternoon -- I think it's really neat when I get to talk about a job I love in an attempt to get another job that I will love.
My flyer for my Valentines Hall Program
My Valentine's Day card to my Boss
My Calendar for the Semester. To go along with my Country theme!
Each day there is a hall event I put a paper kite
#LoveYourSelfie silent program (bulletin) for February.
It's all about Body Positivity and having a healthy body image.
My theme for my last semester as an RA is "Country Roads" -- I think it turned out pretty nice
The Absent RA and Grad School
I dropped off the radar from this blog most of last semester and while each week passed I didn't post I felt a ping of guilt, I did not have the time or energy to keep up this blog. I suppose that is what happens during Graduate school... so this is my small note of consideration, if you want to be an RA while in Grad School just know it is A LOT of work and truly limits your time in other realms of your life.
Now that I am in my second (and final) semester of Grad school I hope to pay more attention to this blog because it is the last semester I am going to be an RA. I have truly loved this job, I have grown more than I ever imagined possible and I want to embrace as much of this last semester in this position as possible.
With that being said... I am working on my Masters thesis and considering my future career. I will still not be as active on here as I once was, but I am still going to make a solid effort to post consistently.
