honestly I wanna talk about shrike's blood color. purple. almost magenta. it's kinda strange. and the color COULD mean one of two things.

he has a combination of oxygen binding pigments, likely in some sort of ratio between hemoglobin (red and iron based, present in humans and a vast number of vertebrates) and haemocyanin (blue and copper based, present in some mollusks, crustaceans, octpi, and squids). these blood pigments have been observed coexisting in mollusks, and can probably be made to take up a cooperative bond in a lab setting, or even in nature in more "complex organisms" if you look in the right environments (idk).

his oxygen binding pigment is haemerythrin, an iron-based pigment that turns its medium purple.

while I dont know how well it would work, I just think it would be really cool if he had a mix of more human and more squid blood. hes like a chimera. it could have also just been lighting doing all the work, or a stylistic choice- no idea, but either way, I think its really unique!!!

if you're weird enough the probably non existent dog motifs in monkey wrench can go really fucking crazy. man from a culture sterotyped as violent named after a stereotypical violent animal struggling with his feelings regarding his culture and how that violence has painted the events of his life. and his friend/coworker the guy who is like if a former police dog was actively trying to break itself of its training and bad habits and failing miserably.

I do have monkey wrench ocs but I barely ever think about most of them. and also I have them all for very strange reasons. like i have an ocean-coded character who collects musical artifacts from all over the galaxy and her favorite thing in her collection is a phonograph and record of classical music from Earth, who i made because i went to the aquarium and got really excited. and then there's one who was only made because I got super mad at how good a characters design was in contrast to how fucking awful they are (in the best way possible). and then there are the two women who just complete reversals of two characters and actually kinda have their shit together. and then☝️ two ferrets

my "probably unpopular headcanon im only posting because im lwokey zonked on post wisdom teeth pain meds" of the day is that Beebs doesn't know shit about first aid, meanwhile Shrike was literally raised in law enforcement and can do anything less than open surgery with his eyes closed basically.

im incredibly normal (lying) so like any normal person would I've been thinking about monkey wrench in conjunction with project hail mary. and I've had a series of awesome (horrible) ideas. for example, if Shrike is in the role of Grace, then Tezzorre is number one candidate for being in Stratt's position. Logical right? well in the book I believe it is stated that the amnesia drug does not wipe language abilities but im saying fuck it. Shrike loses all of his spanish knowledge. and he doesnt even know it. he realizes that in some of his memories his words feel... almost dubbed, but chalks it up to weird brain shit. sometimes he goes to say something and his voice chokes and he cant remember the word he was trying to say for a bit- but he was in a coma, cut him some slack. and then maybe, on the way to Erid, he stumbles upon a video some of the other Petrova workforce made for the Hail Mary crew of all the scientists giving them tips and wishing them luck. and he's in it. and he says something in spanish. and EVERYTHING comes rushing back to shrike and he has the crash out of the century. he films another video adressed to Tezzoree (despite knowing that she will likely never ever see it, because the Beetles are gone and he is barreling towards an alien planet) where he curses her out and threatens her in increasingly specific and alarming ways. and then he tries to say something and he just. stops. because he realizes he tried to reach for the spanish word and felt nothing. and then he cries on camera for a good ten minutes. it takes roughly till he's been on erid for four years for him to get a good handle on the language again.
