just a reminder... it’s ok if you’re struggling with picking up a whole new program overnight. that’s normal and okay? nobody is actually learning anything overnight. you can learn at your own pace, or not at all. seeing a lot of people getting discouraged that they can’t pick it up on the first try and pls just be kind to yourselves. holy shit.

some tips!

don’t give up. just because you don’t get it the first time, doesn’t mean you’ll never get it! learning anything takes time! those who remain determined end up closer to the prize!

don’t be scared to fail a lot of you are terrified to fail, which means you either quit when you don’t get something perfect the first time or you never bother trying anything new because of that looming fear of potential failure. both are terrible ways to go through life bc you cheat yourself out of so many cool experiences. everyone is capable of learning and failure isn’t a bad thing. it’s part of the learning process!

this isn’t a race. you should want to learn a program because it’s fun (and awesome to LEARN new shit!) and not because it gets notes and empty engagement on a (dying) social media platform.

outside of hitting f12, blender is a really cool program and i’m glad it’s free! stick with it and you’ll be happy that you did!

pro tip that has made my life much better:

if something makes you upset, angry, defensive...interrogate that feeling. gently ask yourself why. unfold the feeling until you get to its core. it's often not about what the other person is saying at all, but what you think it means. (sometimes they have outright said something bad! sometimes they haven't, but the scared and unreasonable part of the brain heard something bad anyway!)

this has been really helpful for me dealing with rsd, it's very useful in workshop situations, it's just a really helpful thing to do when feelings are running high--be gentle with yourself, but be honest, too. very few things are an attack meant for you, personally.

If something upsets me to the point that I can feel my heart rate get faster (& therefore know it has triggered my sympathetic nervous system) I have started making a rule for myself to step away. wait a few hours. Think about it again. Not respond for 1-3 days.

he writes articles and does his own podcast, it’s his job is to be racist and giving him attention for it even potentially fuels his audience, but, Dr. Mor Shapiro just used her position as a doctor to try and shame black women. We can call for her to be fired, and as a bonus, between the doctor and the podcaster, she is probably the breadwinner of the household, so Ben Shapiro would probably have a lot less time of his hands for racism, if his wife wasn’t almost certainly paying most of the bills.

Quick reminder that we are going through a global pandemic right now, which is a major stressful event.

It is stressful even if no one you know is sick.

It is stressful even if you are working from home.

It is stressful even if you have no work / school responsibilities.

You are entitled to your stress. You may find yourself crying randomly, or getting randomly angry, or super tired, or bouncing off the walls, or unable to keep a thought in your head for more than 30 seconds. This is an expected stress response.

Give yourself a break. The world is not normal right now. Focus on just getting through it as best you can, utilizing whatever coping methods do the job. This is not forever.

Remember those two ladies at Disneyworld who somebody said “looked racist”? They weren’t wearing Confederate flags or Neonazi symbols on their clothes, they were just a couple of fat older women dressed in t-shirts and board shorts. So someone on Instagram deemed it perfectly acceptable to mock them for being fat and unattractive, because they were assumed to have been “deserving” of it.

The same mentality is used to mock poor people in the South. Again, because everyone in the South must be a racist redneck. So suddenly it’s fine to sneer at them having poor living conditions, their political needs not being listened to by the Democratic party, for natural disasters to ravage their homes etc. Because they’re obviously all racist, so it’s okay that they’re poor and suffering. They “deserve” it.

Do you understand why this whole “It’s okay if I do this to the right people” mentality is totally fucked up? You’re acting bigoted to people and justifying it by associating them with a negative trait. Which is exactly what racists do. What homophobes do. Literally the actions of the people you think deserve every kind of misery, you are doing that yourselves.

Cuties is not some sick pedophilic movie.

The director, Maïmouna Doucouré, is a Senegalese woman and the movie is based off her own life. The movie talks about the hypersexualisation of young girls.

Y'all rushed to send her death and rape threats and she had to deactivate all her socials.

This is the original poster but for some reason Netflix decided to put out that other one and use that gross description.

You can talk about how frustrating it is that Muslim girls only get “I hate my religion and some white person is saving me from oppression” as representation. But this is not that. She’s talking about her life. The problems you have aren’t with her it’s with production companies.

this is a review from january, long before this poster controversy, and it notes that there’s some heavy and uncomfortable subject matter, but praised doucouré for the way she handled it. there is no mention of pedophilia or inappropriate content. a film where little girls are figuring out who they are and what it means to grow up in this culture that keeps sexualizing women younger and younger is difficult and it’s going to make people uncomfortable, but this film is not the problem. if you are raising your eyebrows at some of the things mentioned in this review, that is the point. 

netflix botched this, they have admitted to botching it, they have publicly apologized, and they will release the film with a different poster. people are ruining a woman’s life and career because she dared to share her own story and dared to speak out about something that affects all girls and women. Maïmouna Doucouré’s coming-of-age movie criticizes the very outrage that’s now being lobbied against it.

I feel like some LGBTQ+ people need to hear that it isn’t their fault if their loved ones don’t accept them.

And it isn’t. No matter what the reason is, what they say to you, any circumstances at all- it isn’t your fault. It isn’t ever your fault.

If they love you, than they should accept you- Even when it’s confusing or hard for them, they should always support you. That’s on them, not you. 

I’m really sorry if you’re going through this right now. I truly hope that they come around, and soon. But in the mean time, please remember to never blame yourself.
