Resisting with Indiana Jones

Ever since the inauguration of 45, I’ve been noticing that my clothing inspiration has been very much inspired by Indiana Jones. In the past, when I’ve been in Indy mode, it’s usually been focused around a desire to be off adventuring; but this time it seems to be a way to subtly stand against things in our current culture that are leaning towards fascism. Hopefully dressing like a hero who fought Nazis and Russians will give me the courage to stand up when I see injustice in my own community.

I found myself dressing a bit more like Indiana Jones after the 2016 election. I said that it was my way of quietly resisting the white nationalism that was being given a seat at the table in the Trump administration.

Now, as I've been home during the pandemic, I've started wearing goggles with my various hats and outfits, saying that I'm dressing for the apocalypse I imagined instead of the one we got.

I'm realizing that both of these kinda nerdy dress ups are my way of working through my discomfort with things that are way beyond my control. They allow me to imagine that I'm in the middle of an adventure, and I can imagine that in the final act the heroes will win.
