When feeling overwhelmed by a faraway goal, repeat the following: I have it within me right now to get me to where I want to be later.

Therapy and medication arenât punishments, and they shouldnât be luxuries either. For many people, they are necessary for survivalâand certainly necessary for having a high quality of life. Mental illness should be treated like physical illness; there is nothing to be ashamed about. You shouldnât have to share your diagnosis, but you shouldnât feel like you have to hide it either. Having a mental illness does not make you weak, and it does not make you a bad or dangerous person. It makes you a person with a unique set of challenges, but they involve obstacles that can be worked through, andâif not completely overcomeâthen at least managed. We have come too far to have people silently suffering. We have come too far to have people feel alone.
