This wasn’t anything new. Though, admittedly, the other examples of them bathing together had been in Hebijo’s larger baths or at hot springs. This was somewhat more cramped, but their base’s bath was built to fit all five of them.Homura sighed loudly, clearly enjoying the moment of relaxation in the warm water. She would close her eyes, but had to keep one open to check on her teammate. The concern wasn’t necessary, but still… it wouldn’t be Homura if she didn’t care too much.“Hikage, if you want to dive, be careful and don’t stay under for too long. There isn’t all that much room.”

If Hikage could laugh, she surely would of at the sight of her ally blushing like mad. She might as well have a huge sign that hung from her neck that said: Liar. Idly, Hikage’s fingers flutter in the steaming water as she glances away from Homura, as to not put her on the spot as much. Based on what she’s seen, whether it be from homura or merely spying on non-shinobi, emotional situations such as this were often sensitive issues.

            “…Maybe you should be more honest with yourself. I don’t mean to put you on the spot, but judging by your reaction, you care for her a great deal. Why not make it known? At least accept it. I think…. if you like her, then maybe after…. all this, you could tell her.”

Homura dipped further into the water so that only the top half of her head was visible, blowing bubbles under the water. She didn’t want to answer, didn’t know how to answer.

Despite their attitudes, she was aware that Asuka was the Shield to Homura’s Sword. They were perfect partners, and perhaps knew each other’s minds better than their own teammates.  It wouldn’t stop her if they had to fight to the death. Homura would hate it, but her pride wouldn’t allow her to hold back.  There was more to it than that, of course. Homura did care about Asuka, that was certain, but she wasn’t sure of her own feelings nor how to express them.

With a sigh, she rose from beneath the surface. “I don’t know, Hikage. About any of that.” After all, the last time Homura told someone she loved them, he had a knife to her throat. Asuka was too good for that, of course, far too noble. Probably too good and noble for Homura.

“I appreciate the concern, Homura… But we both know this is fairly serious. Ever since I bequeathed the duty of hunting the yōma to the shinobi, Naraku’s biggest worry was the Goshin Clan’s thoughts on the matter. The worse possible situation is that they’ll make me continue to fight them until I return to the Sphere once more.”

Curses, now it looked like her lunch was going to go cold. “I speak for the rest of my squad when I say this: we simply will not let them. No matter how old the clan, they have no right to take away what you want to do with your life. If they persist, then we will crush them.”

“Well, food is as good a reason as any for traveling the world, is it not? It’s the most enjoyable thing that comes to mind!” she replied cheerfully, not seeming to really mind that it came out of a box. Her face fell just a little when Naraku was mentioned. “She’s currently dealing with something regarding the Goshin Clan’s duties. I’m hoping it’s nothing serious.”

“Just focus on the meats, they’re always the best.” Homura took a moment to slurp some of her noodles. It looks like she wasn’t going to finish with someone around.  “It probably wont be anything too important.” That was a lie, it was probably pretty serious that the clan’s entire reason to be had decided to go on holidays.
