wait a minute, isn't freddie a tenor? not a baritone
honestly i know nothing abt like. music technicalities but i read once that freddies voice (at least in the 70s) fell naturally as a baritone! i’ll try to fact check it if you want i just remember reading it somewhere
https://reverb.com/news/scientific-study-confirms-freddie-mercury-voice-was-one-of-a-kind
okay! here’s what i found
Scientific Study Confirms Freddie Mercury’s Voice was One-of-a-Kind
You’re right, Freddie was naturally a baritone, which was also confirmed by Montserrat Caballé. Despite that Freddie had a wide range over 4 octaves and was able to sing effortlessly in the higher registers.
He didn’t have the ‘break’ between chest voice and head voice that the rest of us have. Just a splendid tone across the whole of his range. (I’m a mezzo, but the power in my voice is in the lower half of my range. Most people have a power portion and the rest is just about having good control. But, Freddie was powerful up and down and backwards.)
The only thing that makes me go ‘huh’ in the article is determining a singing range based on speech. I have sung with multiple male altos who have quite normal/deep speaking voices, but could sing way the hell up there. 🤷♀️
