Don't You Remember?

“It’s okay…do you still want me to stay? I don’t really feel welcome here right now.” She stood up, not sure if she should leave or not.

“If you would like to leave I will not keep you a moment longer..I think Kiran and I should talk ourselves.” He smiled, leaning down to gently kiss her cheek. “Thank you for the visit, Jenna. You are welcome back any time.”

She didn’t really want to leave but she also didn’t want to overstay her welcome. She pulled a card out of her pocket. “Here, call me if you ever want to hang out. I don’t really think I will be welcomed back.”

He would take her card graciously and smile at her. “Thank you, and you are welcome here. I know that Kiran came off as harsh and I apologize. She’s just…It’s not easy for her.”

"No problem. And I could tell that when she had her teeth inches away from my throat." She forced a smile and gave him a nod, "I will see you later. It's getting late." Jenna moved to the door and opened it. "It was nice talking with you."

“Better than I thought it would,” Kiran answered, giving one last lingering look toward Jenna before turning back to him. “If you want, I can leave you two…you know I’ll be around if you need anything…”

She gave a tired sigh. At least now she wouldn’t be so foolish as to think she could sleep.

Jenna smiled at Lukas and nodded her head, “what she said.” She picked up her water and drank some. She wasn’t really sure what to say. It was kind of awkward when you were trying to pretend that the conversation went smoothly. Not when her mouth had been so close to her neck.

Lukas gave a slow nod to Kiran. But before she walked away he would gently take her hand for a moment before moving his free hand to gently caress her cheek. He’d say nothing, just caress his thumb against her cheek before letting her go if she wanted to. Turning back to Jenna he sighed.

“I am..sorry if that didn’t go as you had expected. I knew she was on edge about all of this, I just wasn’t aware of how much..”

“I won’t but I’ll just let time convince you.” Jenna had no intention of writing about this. She knew how foolish it would be. It was kind of nice to be seen as a threat for once though. She waited patiently for Lukas to return now that she was free from interrogation.

Oddly Lukas wasn’t far at all, and he heard everything that was said which included what Kiran had to Jenna. Lukas was staring off as he let that sit with him a bit. Looking and just listening until he was called back in he’d force a smile after making them wait a moment.

His hands in his pockets he’d look to both girls. “I hope that went well?” Though give or take bits of the conversation he knew that it did, and yet didn’t. But it was comforting to know that there were people looking out for him.

“I want to,” she muttered desperately. “I want to trust everyone, but I can’t,” she shook her head. “I can’t trust someone I don’t know. And I don’t know like anyone here.” She made a frustrated noise, fingers running through her hair and tugging at the ends. “This is my fault. I never should have left his side. Now he’s lost, and I don’t know where to lead him…”

She sat down in a chair opposite her, holding her head in her hands like she was about to cry.

A look of concern crossed her face. “I can’t imagine how stressful this situation is. I want to help in any way I can. You couldn’t have known this would happen. Who would have expected an elder vampire to suddenly lose his memories?” She recalled Lukas joking about trying to make vampires feel better and it made her smile. “Maybe you shouldn’t lead him. Maybe he needs to find his own way. He will still need someone by his side to help him. I don’t think being stressed over it is going to do either of you any good.”

“You have a point,” she sighed, moving her hands from her face to sweep them back over her hair. “You’re still fucked if you publish a word of this, but for now there’s not a lot I can do about you knowing. I guess I could glamour you into forgetting, but Lukas needs all the friends he can get right now, and I can’t automatically assume you to be an enemy just because you are a potential threat.”

She shrugged, moving toward the direction Lukas had gone off in. “Lukas,” she called out, loud enough that she was certain he would hear whether he was trying to or not. “You can come back over here now if you like.”

What do you think of the current Lukas?

He's very nice, sweet, an old gentleman that belongs in another century. He's also very gentle which he wasn't before and considerate.

Jenna smiled a little, “Kiran, I understand you are just looking out for him. I’ve been telling him how good he has been to me. I saw how sad he was and I just wanted to help him. He took some blood from me and saw memories of us together. I showed him how happy he made me. Trust me, I am not here to hurt him in any way.”

She stayed still, trying to keep her heart rate down by breathing slowly. Once pulled away Jenna would simply listen. “I’m not going to hurt him.” She sighed, although her voice was sincere she knew it would be hard to convince Kiran otherwise. “I only meant that maybe he has told someone like he told me.”

She shut her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath, strictly in the hope of keeping her cool. “He has,” she nodded, her face back to its pleasant, neutral state when she looked back to her once more. “I can’t keep him from leaving this house, it’s his house and regardless of circumstances, I am his guest. I am his child. I cannot tell him what to do, and he does not like being here right now, so…” she shrugged. “I just know there are people out there who know what’s going on, or at least as much as he knows. He comes home, and he looks so sad, and he asks me things about what kind of person he was and I just know that someone else out there has told him about some other wrong he’s committed, and I don’t…”

She closed her eyes, shaking her head sharply, leaving that thought unfinished. “I just don’t need any more shit right now, okay? Don’t mess with him. Not physically, not mentally, because there are some people I can’t do anything to stop, and you are not one of them.”

Jenna smiled a little, "Kiran, I understand you are just looking out for him. I've been telling him how good he has been to me. I saw how sad he was and I just wanted to help him. Jenna kept a steady tone, “you are not going to intimidate me on nothing but an assumption. I know exactly how old you are. You should also know that I am probably not the only one that knows about this. I would be more concerned with those who are not so loyal to your maker.”

“I think you might be forgetting something here,” she muttered, losing her patience. She was exhausted, sick with worry, and it was getting the best of her. She let her fangs slip and in the blink of an eye, she was right next to her, fangs pressed to her skin right above a particularly juicy artery.

“You are my food,” she said plainly, keeping his mouth close to vulnerable flesh. If she was going to try to make a move, dealing with that would be simple. She was only human, after all. “Intimidation is the least of your worries from me. Lukas might not remember who he was, but I do. And if it comes down to it, and someone has to be that person, I will.”

She let her go, all at once she was standing again, giving a little sigh. “And I feel it once again necessary to point out that I am not an idiot. I know other people know about this. I’ve told other people about this. Individual people, either ones who have some stake in his well-being, or ones it would be easy for me to kill. You, my dear, are not his blood. You are a meatbag. With a pen. And that is dangerous. A person here, a person there…it’s a lot more manageable than a whole publishing circuit.”

She gave her a bit of a sympathetic look, her face softening. “You say I should be concerned with people who are not as loyal to my maker, but I’m not sure you know what loyalty is,” she shook her head lightly. “I have no way of being sure you won’t betray him, even if you don’t intend to. I want to be clear here. I don’t want to hurt you. And I won’t. Not unless I see you’re fucking around where you shouldn’t be. I read that magazine you wrote for—most people in their right mind would never believe half that garbage anyway. But I have my eye on it. And I know just where to go if something seems a little too familiar.”

Her eyes narrowed back defensively, “I originally came to see if he wouldn’t mind answering some questions for me. When I saw that something was wrong though, I disregarded why I came and wanted know what had happened. I’m not using him for some story, Kiran, it would be stupid of me. If Lukas got his memories back and thought that I used him like that then he would end our deal. Why would I want to hurt a relationship with my best informant? He looked upset. I wanted to help him out. I’m not going to write about him, I promise.”

She listened to her talk, slowly beginning to smile. She kept the smile, unwavering for a moment as Jenna finished speaking, but the smile then gave way to little bouts of light laughter. She shook her head, grinning now.

“I’m wondering if you knew Lukas at all before this happened,” she chuckled, shaking her head. “See, if you did write about this, and he does get his memories back? You won’t be looking for a new informant. You’ll be looking for a place to hide. And I’ll help him make sure you don’t find one.” She stepped a little closer, standing over her, eyes cast downward with a cruel determination to them.

“I just want to make sure this is clear. I’m not an idiot. I look young, yes. But I’m not. I’ve been lied to before, but this isn’t about me. It’s about my maker. The one I have sworn to protect. There are probably a choice few people out there who would love to know the situation he’s in. If they find out, you will be finding out too. I promise.”

Jenna moved so she was sitting normally again, her back straight as she stared at her glass of water. She gave Lukas a nod and when he was gone she would look up, “what is this about?”

She waited listening carefully as he moved from the area. If he really wanted to overhear them talking, she had no doubt he could—his senses were probably far stronger than hers. She didn’t really care if he heard, though. She just didn’t want him sitting right here for the conversation.

At Jenna’s question, she narrowed her eyes a little, folding her arms over her chest. “You’re the one who gets into other people’s business for a living. Why don’t you tell me?”

She came by to check on me.” He could tell that there was something with Kiran at the moment, that she was clearly not happy with having Jenna in the house. But she was causing no harm, there was no reason to have her leave.

Jenna looked hurt by the her tone. She wasn’t sure what she had done to Kiran to make her upset. Maybe she had done something the last time they met? “Yes, when he wasn’t at the club I came here to make sure everything was alright.”

“I assume, then, that she knows what’s…going on?” She studied Jenna for a moment, piercing blue eyes looking her over. There was no real sign of deceit or ill will, but she didn’t really know this woman. In fact, she’d seen her name in Lukas’ phone after he came home without any memories and intentionally passed it over—she really didn’t want a reporter knowing about this mess.

She stepped over to Jenna, looking over at Lukas. “If you don’t mind, could I possibly talk to her in private?”

“She has an idea, yes.” He gave a slow nod, but upon Kiran’s request he would nod. “Forgive me, Jenna, but since Kiran desires to speak with you in private I will allow this and I will see myself to another room.” He would stand up and bow to her before doing just that.

And yes. I know Jenna. Or I have met her before, anyway. The question is, do you know Jenna?” She lifted an eyebrow, licking her lips as she threw a quick glance toward the human.

Kiran was trying to take a nap when she heard someone come in. After little investigation, she decided the scent indicated the guest was just a human, couldn’t be much threat assuming Lukas was still capable of defending himself. They were probably just here to feed him, anyway.

She gave a valiant attempt at sleeping, but eventually she gave up, frustrated, and rolled out of bed. She noticed that she still smelled that human in the house, and going out into the hallway, she could hear a woman speaking.

She recognized the voice, and quickly made her way downstairs to where the woman was talking with her maker.

“Lukas,” she tilted her head, giving him a little smile while not really looking at the blonde woman. She remembered her from before this happened, but she didn’t remember the girl’s name. Just that she didn’t much care for her.

Nothing personal, but Kiran was no fan of the press, especially not reporters who claim to write about things she thought the general public was better off not knowing. With her maker in this situation and god knows how many enemies he may have had who would love to capitalize on this opportunity…

She gave the girl a look that was pleasant enough at a glance, but had a bit of venom behind it. “Have you arranged your own dinner this evening?”

She seemed truly fluttered by him and he’d smile at her as he continued to unconsciously play with her hair. “Does anyone else have that effect on you?” He asked curiously with that desire to simply get to know her, but it would seem that the chance was interrupted. Looking to Kiran who had come down he smiled brightly.

“Kiran, how was your rest? This is Jenna.” He held out his hand to the girl in front of him before looking back at his Progeny.

Jenna was about to answer him when she looked up at Kiran. Her tone made her wince slightly. She smiled lightly, "Hi, Kiran."

“Well, if I may be so forward and bold to ask, but what is your attraction to me if you’re so willing to be with me. I know, strange question to ask, but I’m curious.”

She was silent for a while, trying to think. “There was just something about you. Your age drew me in. I wanted to see if I could write an article about you. You are the oldest person I’ve ever came in contact with. We met and you just had this air about you, like that was something there that would be perfect for the magazine. You quickly saw my weaknesses and you just had this control over yourself and others that was admirable. You showed me how to have some fun and enjoy myself. Plus you are incredibly handsome.”

Oh if only he could blush right now the last line in that would certainly have taken him by surprise. He turned to Jenna with a smile. “And you’re a very lovely woman. Inside and out, if you don’t mind me saying so.” He’d brush her hair back again gently, just being as tender as he possibly can without coming off as fake.

He couldn’t blush but that didn’t stop her from doing it. “Thank you, you are really sweet. I didn’t think true gentlemen still existed.”

“I guess losing yourself can do that for a man.” He chuckled, just laughing his situation off as a joke. “Your cheeks are turning red.”

Jenna nodded, “okay, that’s reassuring. Right now you don’t seem like the type of guy that would do that. I don’t know what you must think of me for not getting to know you first. I wish I could explain my actions, but I can’t.”

“Sex is not shameful.” He chuckled. “It’s a natural act, I’d imagine that love does not always have to be apart of the equation for it to happen so I don’t think any less of you for it.” He gave her a smile.

“Good.” She smiled back at him, “are there any more questions you have? Anything else you want to know? I’m not sure what to talk about now.”

He would chuckle again as she cleared her throat that way knowing what she was talking about before. Who knew the topic of sex would actually make Lukas Kjellin actually blush if he could. “I hope, but right now I haven’t a clue. I’m sure the world isn’t really waiting for it anyway.”

She smiled at him, “you’re wrong. People have been contacting my editor trying to find out when it will be open. They are very excited about it. I don’t think you should rush though, the longer they wait the more excited they are when it finally opens.” Her face fell a little, “you’re not…ashamed of what we did, are you?”

He shook his head and chuckles. “No, I can’t say that I am. ” He gave her a smile. “If I could remember it completely. Seeing it, knowing it did happen, but not remembering it. It’s a strange thing. It’s like watching a movie that’s your life but you don’t recall those things happening.”
