“Exactly. Hence the darts.”

“Ohhhh,” he chuckled. “Hence the darts?”
“Exactly. Hence the darts.”
“That isn’t exactly my style? And I doubt it would’ve worked, to be honest. Probably would’ve only made it worse?”
“At least you feel like you tried.”
Still smiling up a storm, Fee nodded happily. “Sure. Of course. What’s not to understand?”
“Some people find it... confusing,” Marlene hesitated.
“Or I’m just ahead of the game, like usual.”
“Ahead enough to get you stuck in here.”
“You wouldn’t do that to me, would you? I’d be so very lonely after you left.”
“You underestimate my ability to harm people.”
“I’ve known you for years, Marls.”
“I’ve known Professor Flitwick for years. That doesn’t mean I even know his favorite color.”
“That’s a joke, right? Marlene, I know you all too well.”
“Oh, really, then? Tell me what you could possibly know about me.”
“Just some nice summer spell practicing.”
“School before you have homework? You’ve lost it.”
“You are the one that has to hear me run about screeching in another language, aren’t you?”
“Not if I leave you so that you look like you are talking to yourself.”
“I can always tell the difference with you.”
“You don’t know me.”
He laughs, “Sadly, I think it is more unfortunate for you.”
“Why would you say that?”
“You’re the worst liar, McKinnon.”
“I am an excellent liar, dork. So good that you can’t even tell the difference.”
“No that’s just a damn lie and you know it. I’m always perfect.”
“And yet, your dart is a millimeter off center. Mine is perfect.”
“Ah ah ah, McKinnon,” Sirius tutted, stepping toward her then and pointing to the dart. “That’s a tie right there.”
“Like all things in life, you’re just a wee bit off and a fraction too late,” She smiled and then looked down, like being that close and looking in his eyes wasn’t compatible.
“Haven’t you learned by now that I never overestimate? I’m right on target,” Sirius retorted, taking the dart and stepping up to the line, giving his wrist a flick and sending the dart toward the Ministry administered parchment. It landed in the inner ring, making him turn to Marlene, giving her a look.
“Actually, you’re a little... quick,” She said nonchalantly, stepping in front of him without so much as making eye contact. Marlene threw the dart, it landing nearly right on point with Sirius’s. “Oh look. You lose.”
“Not until they stop relying so heavily on passing plays, no,” she said, smiling like the clueless ball of sunshine she is and not altogether aware she’d just been a bit rude.
Marlene raised an eyebrow, “Do you understand Quidditch?”
“I’ve always loved your determination, Marls. I love you for it, really. But I’m not sure running is an option. Think about it, we couldn’t just leave.”
“Then we fight.”
