A blog about a topic I rarely see mentioned: how Trump added $7.8 trillion to our national debt in 4 years with a significant part of that being hugh tax benefits for the ultrawealthy and major corporations. He was able to use his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to pay zero tax in 2020. That means he paid nothing towards our national defense, but enjoys the security of our nation, and paid nothing for the infrastructure that his businesses use and that supports them. The nation's tax burden falls on the rest of us. Young Americans will spend their entire working lives paying taxes to pay back the money the US borrows to take the place of the missing tax revenue from billionaires like Trump.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, requests that the case against David Hearn be dropped due to lack of evidence for vandalism charge

On Friday, July 31, 2026, US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, did an abrupt about-face and requested that the case against David Hearn for allegedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by causing more than $1000 worth of damage, be dismissed, which was granted by the presiding judge.  Jeanine Pirro has previously made a detailed set of allegations against David Hearn and said she had the evidence to back it up. That turned out not to be true; Jeanine Pirro and her subordinates were unable to produce any evidence to support their case.  The July 31st motion claims that it was not until after the return of the indictment that the Dept. of the Interior (DOI) provided documents that the Reflecting Pool damage was caused by a flawed installation by the contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings (selected by Trump). While Jeanine Pirro deserves credit for finally admitting the truth (however reluctantly) about what caused the Reflecting Pool debacle, we must remember that she was willing to help fabricate a completely false story against an innocent American and tell the US public that she had the evidence to back it up when she did not.  Undoubtedly this was at the behest of Trump.  Even though the Department of Justice (DOJ) is supposed to operate independently of the president and in a non-partisan manner.  Earlier, Jeanine Pirro appeared on the Fox News’ prime-time show hosted by Jesse Watters and appeared outraged that anyone would not believe Trump’s claims that vandals caused the damage to the Reflecting Pool, even though there was no evidence pointing to vandalism.  Now Fox News has barely covered the new development in this story (the dropping of charges against David Hearn and three others), and “Watters made no mention of Pirro, the Reflecting Pool or the case’s collapse on his show.” Her behavior in the future merits careful observation.  Meanwhile, Trump is unhappy with Pirro, saying she “choked” and “made a mistake”.  Trump is a serial liar and eager to falsely imprison innocent Americans to try to cover up the embarrassment of his failed Reflecting Pool “renovation”.  He is completely unethical, which is why he continues to shamelessly push his falsehoods regarding “vandalism” at the Reflecting Pool.

Republicans stage a political hit job on Dr. Fauci to distract from high gas prices and inflation, and their support for Trump's unpopular war of choice against Iran

Instead of doing anything to address the affordability issues that Americans face, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has chosen to spend his time releasing Dr. Anthony Fauci private journal entries about the covid pandemic between December 2019 and December 2022.  The journal entries reveal that Dr. Fauci thought that natural spillover from an animal to a human was the most likely origin of the covid-19 virus, with the open-air market in Wuhan, China acting as an amplifying event for the spread of the infection.  However, he has consistently stated that there is no definitive proof for any one covid origin theory.  This Senate hearing might have made sense if new evidence to support one origin theory over another had emerged, but it has not.  So why dredge all this up now?  Surely the country is facing more important problems.  First, as Dr. Fauci correctly stated, this is an “unhinged obsession” for Sen. Rand Paul.  Dr. Fauci knows this is a political hit job, which is why he has taken the fifth amendment, as is his right under the Constitution.  Second, the Republican party desperately needs to try to distract Americans from the fact that they have actively worked to make the rich richer and the poor poorer in the US.  That gross domestic product (GDP) has slowed to a modest 1.5% in the second quarter of 2026.  That they have done nothing to curtail Trump’s unpopular war of choice against Iran with gas prices rising to over $4 per gallon as of 7/30/26, and inflation at 3.5%.

As one would expect, there was little difference between the death rates of Democrats and Republicans in the first year of the covid-19 pandemic.  However, after the covid-19 vaccines became widely available in the summer of 2021, the covid death rates for Republicans in US counties that voted 60% or higher for Trump in the 2020 general election, increased to more than twice that of Democrats in counties that voted 60% or higher for Biden.  Trump’s muddled message on the covid vaccines is largely responsible for the divergent death rates.  Democrats were more likely to listen to the science- and evidence-based advice of Dr. Fauci, while MAGA Republicans were more likely to take their advice from Trump.  Although Trump received a covid vaccine himself, he repeatedly told Americans that covid was no worse than the flu and it would “disappear on its own”.  How wrong he was!  Under Trump’s bumbling approach, the US suffered over 1.1 million covid deaths reported through January 2025, accounting for 16% of a global total of over 6.9 million.  The US had more covid deaths than any other country.  From the relative numbers of Republican versus Democrat covid deaths, it’s crystal clear who botched the response to the covid pandemic.  Sen. Rand Paul seems to be unhappy that the US did not have even more covid deaths.  He’s the one who should be answering to the American people about why he wishes more of them had died from covid.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro fails to prove David Hearn, the former US Olympian, damaged the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

Dishonest Donald has lied repeatedly to the American people, claiming at least three times that vandals made gashes from 250-350 feet long in the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool’s new lining.  To no one’s surprise, every time he told this whopper, the slash got longer.  Now the pool has been drained again, and surprise, surprise! – there is no gash in the lining.  Trump was lying all along.  US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, was apparently able to only come up with one witness for the grand jury hearing against David Hearn, the former US Olympian, who was arrested for stopping by the Reflecting Pool while on a bike ride, reaching into the water, and touching a piece of the already-peeling lining.  Jeanine Pirro has previously made a detailed set of allegations against David Hearn and said she had the evidence to back it up.  Yet the government’s one witness testified that “the area was already damaged and would have required repairs regardless”.  By June 18, 2026, the day before David Hearn’s stop by the Reflecting Pool, social media clips were going viral of the peeling dark blue lining.  Frank Lands, the deputy director of operations for the National Park Services has previously given a sworn statement that the Reflecting Pool’s lining was cut with no evidence to support said statement.  An investigation into the efforts of Jeanine Pirro and Frank Lands to falsely imprison innocent Americans needs to take place.  If they are plotting with Trump and his sycophants in the White House to try to cover up his failed Reflecting Pool project, all involved in this travesty need to be brought to justice.

The Trump Dept of Justice withdraws subpoenas against NY Times journalists in a win for the First Amendment of the US Constitution

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is supposed to operate independently of the president and in a non-partisan manner.  In its current form, it has become a mouthpiece for corrupt Donald Trump, who hates the US Constitution.  Southern District of New York US Attorney Jay Clayton had issued subpoenas to four New York Times reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan “in regard to an alleged violation of criminal law”.  Of course, Jay Clayton and his toadies were unable to name what this non-existent criminal law was.  Now the DOJ is dropping its subpoenas demanding grand jury testimony and phone records from the New York Times journalists.  The DOJ attorneys tried to argue that the US Attorney General can ignore the Constitution and set aside the First Amendment rights of journalists whenever he deems it necessary.  They were unable to convince the presiding judge that they were not trying to violate the journalists’ First Amendment protections and were threatened with sanctions for “failing to follow the law and misleading the court in signed filings”.  Prosecutor Sean Buckley could not explain why they issued subpoenas two days (July 10, 2026) after the NY Times articles appeared on July 8, 2026.  It’s high time for an investigation into the current compromised DOJ to see if and how they are illegally plotting with Trump and his White House minions to overturn the Constitution, particularly the First Amendment.

Trump and his sycophant, US Attorney Jay Clayton, hate the First Amendment of the US Constitution for its protection of freedom of the press

It has been reported that the Southern District of New York US Attorney Jay Clayton has issued subpoenas to four New York Times reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan next week “in regard to an alleged violation of criminal law”.  An alleged violation of criminal law?  Did a six-year-old write these subpoenas?  Jay Clayton can’t even name the law that has been broken.  Because it doesn’t exist.  The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees freedom of the press, and prohibits any law that attempts to abridge the free exercise of that freedom.  This is something that Jay Clayton and Trump seem unaware of or hostile to, and it highlights how unqualified Jay Clayton is to be a US Attorney.  He has already broken his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution.  It’s time to begin an investigation into Jay Clayton and his unconstitutional maneuverings to intimidate the press into silence.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor

Former U.S. Olympian David Hearn has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge brought against him for allegedly damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.  Trump’s lackey, Jeanine Pirro, is apparently trying to imprison David Hearn and perhaps others, to save Trump the embarrassment of his failed and mis-named pool “beautification” project.  It’s time for an investigation into U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, and Frank Lands, the deputy director of operations for the National Park Services, who gave a sworn statement that the Reflecting Pool’s lining was cut with no evidence to support said statement.  It’s time to find out if they communicated and plotted with Trump and other members of his corrupt administration to imprison at least one innocent American on false charges of damaging the Reflecting Pool.

Dim-witted Donald makes the Reflecting Pool's algae problems even worse while wasting millions of taxpayer dollars

The National Mall’s Reflecting Pool has suffered from algae problems since it opened in 1923.  Not surprising for a long, shallow pool of warm water.  Trump has managed to waste millions of taxpayers’ dollars and make the situation worse. First, a no-bid contract (cost has gone from between $1.5 and $2 million to over $14 million) was given to someone who at first Trump had claimed was a former contractor of his, and then when it was clear Atlantic Industrial Coatings didn’t know what it was doing (with algae growth appearing one day after their supposed fix), suddenly the story changes and Trump says he had nothing to do with it.  The intellectually challenged Donald is simply not smart enough to realize that painting the pool a dark color causes the water to absorb more heat and aids algae growth. Unlike smarter presidents, who realized they needed to rely on the advice of experts on subjects they knew nothing about, Trump makes up his own “facts”.  As reported by the New York Times, experts knew Trump’s “fix” was an exercise in futility.  The algae and peeling lining are a perfect metaphor for the stupidity, and waste of taxpayers’ $$ committed by Trump and his administration.

Now Trump has had six visitors to the Mall arrested and is trying to claim they vandalized the Reflecting Pool despite numerous photos showing the pool already had chunks of the lining peeling off the surface before the arrested individuals were there.  All because Trump will not take responsibility for his stupidity and is looking for someone to falsely blame for his failure.  It’s time for an investigation into Trump as well as any members of his administration who help him try to frame these innocent Americans for his own incompetence.

Trump greatly inflates the amount of oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the last few days

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Trump claimed that the US secretly moved over 100 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.  That over 200 commercial ships safely passed through the strait.  You know, the same strait that Iran has mined, leaving one lane open for ships willing to pay a toll.  Of course, this begs the question of why the US would need to secretly help ships through the strait.  Hasn’t Dishonest Donald stated repeatedly that Iran is completely defeated?  If that’s true, why the necessity for a secret mission?  According to the US Energy Information Administration, about 20 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz per day in 2025. So over 100 million barrels represents at least 5 normal days’ worth of oil. Oddly, not a single one of those supposed ships hit a mine or was spotted by Iran. Over 200 commercial vessels are a lot of ships and that number would certainly show up in satellite images, if they really existed.  Instead satellite imagery shows about 2 million barrels of oil (about 10% of the amount before Trump’s war of choice against Iran) have passed through the strait in the last few days. Iran’s Arab oil-producing neighbors seem to transit by hugging the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman, turning off their transponders and at least some of them are travelling after dark with their lights off.  Those actions imply that Iran’s neighbors don’t believe Trump when he says Iran is completely harmless and that it is lying as usual where Trump is concerned.

Trump's supposed talks with Iran in the past two days likely a convenient falsehood

On Saturday, March 21 Trump threatened Iran with destruction of its power plants and other energy infrastructure if it didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic in 48 hours. On Sunday, March 22, Iran responded that they would strike back on the fuel and energy targets that America uses in the region if it was struck first.  This would be a major escalation in the Iran war and would undoubtedly destroy a lot of energy infrastructure that the global energy market depends on.  On Monday, March 23 Trump farted out on the mis-named Truth Social he was delaying the strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure for five days because the US and Iran had had “very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution” of the war with Iran.  Of course, he’s pulling a TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) move.  It didn’t take long for Iran’s Foreign Ministry to state that no such talks had taken place.  It doesn’t really make any sense that less than 40 hours after Trump threatened Iran with complete destruction of its power plants, that this magical agreement would appear.   It’s yet another example of Trump lying to Americans and the world at large.  Someone must have told him that escalating this conflict would greatly increase gas prices both in the US and globally and now he’s looking to lie his way out of the mess he created.

Trump is America Last, Wealthy Oligarchs First

Trump is now claiming that we make a lot of money when oil prices go up.  Of course, the “we” he is talking about are oil companies and their executives.  Trump has consistently worked to transfer America’s wealth into the hands of the already ultrawealthy.  Working Americans will not only pay more at the gas pump, but more for most products, even those made in the USA as transportation costs increase.  It’s all part of Trump’s not-so-secret “America Last, Wealthy Oligarchs First” strategy.

Trump attempting to steal $10 billion in US taxpayer dollars in lawsuit against the IRS

Trump is attempting to steal $10 billion of Americans’ tax dollars by filing a personal lawsuit against the IRS.  In 2019 and 2020, an IRS contractor, Charles Littlejohn (yes, the allusion to Robin Hood is inescapable), stole the tax records of Trump and other wealthy people, before he leaked them to the media.  He admitted to the theft in federal court in 2023, and is now serving the maximum five-year sentence in prison.  Trump, endlessly playing the victim card, is now claiming that he has been wronged and is trying to nab for himself $10 billion taxpayer dollars.  What harm has he suffered?  Enough people fell for his line of bs about improving affordability to get himself re-elected president in 2024 (big surprise, unemployment is up and job creation is down since Trump became president).  He has suffered no financial set-back from it. Yet here is Trump, trying to unconstitutionally enrich himself using the presidency.  Meanwhile he has done nothing to improve affordability for working Americans.

Trump stealing your tax dollars for 2nd renovation of the Kennedy Center in 7 years

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts underwent a $250 million renovation and expansion in 2019.  In February 2025, Trump fired the bipartisan Kennedy Center board, replaced them with Trump sycophants, and appointed himself as board chairman.  Trump had shown no prior interest in the arts or American culture, in fact, he was forced to admit he had never actually seen a show at the Kennedy Center.  Under Trump’s so-called “leadership”, the Kennedy Center has lost money hand over fist.  Numerous artists and producers have cancelled performances in protest of this fascist-style takeover.  In December 2025, the Trump boot-lickers on the Kennedy Center board voted to put the name of Donald “Bone Spurs” Trump on the building alongside that of the late President John F. Kennedy, a legally questionable move.  Of course, it was all pre-planned.  Less than 24 hours after the vote, Trump’s name was added to the Kennedy Center. Now Trump needs to cover up the embarrassment of his and his board’s failure to schedule art programming at the Kennedy Center.  That’s right, they’re completely incompetent to run a performing arts center.  He’s announced that the Kennedy Center will be closed for two years starting in July for renovations.  That’s right; Trump is going to steal your taxpayer dollars to renovate the Kennedy center, which was renovated only 7 years ago!  Narcissistic Trump’s priority is putting his name on American landmarks.  He has been president for over a year and has done nothing to address affordability issues.  American workers and businesses continue to struggle under the Trump taxes in the form of tariffs.

Time to elect people to Congress to eliminate billionaire welfare

Dishonest Donald fought tooth and nail to prevent Congress from doing their due diligence, but ultimately was unable to prevent the release of his 2015-2020 tax returns.  It was immediately clear that Trump has been lying all along about paying hundreds of millions in taxes.  When Trump’s 2015-2020 tax returns were released, it was revealed he paid little in federal tax.  In fact, in 2020 he paid nothing at all.  Trump is a phenomenally stupid businessman.  One only to look at the hugh business losses on his tax returns to know that.  He generates millions of dollars of income with billionaire welfare.  Donald Bender, a partner at Mazars USA LLP  said Trump reported losses of nearly $700 million in 2009 and $200 million in 2010.  Not to mention the NY Times reporting that Trump claimed $915.7 million in business losses in 1995.  It is not the responsibility of the American taxpayer to bail out dim-witted Donald when he overpaid for the Eastern Air Lines Shuttle or the Plaza Hotel by giving him millions in billionaire welfare.  Those poor business choices are on him.  No one should be allowed to claim more than three years of business losses.  If you’re that untalented, it’s time to make way for someone who actually knows the business.  Also no one should be allowed to claim unlimited losses, perhaps $5 million at the most and only for three years.  Otherwise, it’s all your own loss, brought on by your own lack of judgment.

Trump looking to steal Greenland's natural resources

Trump is proposing to steal US taxpayer dollars to either coerce the sale of Greenland from Denmark to the tune of $700 billion (so much for Trump spending time, effort, or taxpayer dollars to bring down prices for ordinary Americans), despite both Greenland and Denmark saying Greenland is not for sale, or use the US military to commit an international war crime by stealing a NATO ally’s territory.  Of course, he plans for the lion’s share of the profits from the sale of Greenland’s natural resources to go into his own pocket.  He’s already used the US military to steal Venezuela’s oil, and no one has pushed back, so he thinks he can use the US military as his muscle to take over territories and countries with valuable natural resources for his own financial benefit.  Scott Bessent, current US Treasure Secretary and billionaire pal of Trump’s, recently defended Trump’s proposed forcible takeover of Greenland.  Obviously corrupt Scott Bessent is anticipating being cut in on a share of the future Greenland profits as envisioned by Trump.  This is the Scott Bessent who favors tariffs (which are taxes on ordinary Americans and on any of America’s businesses which import goods), and Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill Act for its tax cuts and breaks for billionaires and large corporations, along with an increase in the national debt to partially pay for all this billionaire welfare.  The fiction they are trying to push is ridiculous – they claim Russia and China are suddenly willing to destabilize the status quo by attempting to take over Greenland if the US doesn’t take over, despite no detection of such a threat.  Anyone who can read a map can see Greenland is surrounded by NATO countries.  Also European soldiers from NATO have arrived to protect Greenland from attack from . . . er, Russia and China, or so the official line goes.  The truth is billionaires like Trump and Bessent do not have American values (they do not believe in democracy, self-determination, or the pursuit of happiness for others), are incredibly greedy and corrupt, and are more than willing to put the US military in harm’s way for their own personal profit.

Trump does not follow the law with his ballroom project, but lies about the Fed renovation to harass Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell

The Federal Reserve is renovating two buildings built in the 1930’s, which total about 400,000 square feet.  The intent is to update electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and fire suppression, as well as abate lead and asbestos in the buildings.  Cost estimates were $1.4 billion in 2019, and have now increased to $2.4 billion.  Unlike Trump with his WH ballroom project, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell has followed the law, and the Fed project has been reviewed by multiple agencies, including the National Park Service, Commission of Fine Arts, National Capital Planning Commission, District of Columbia State Historic Preservation Office, and the District of Columbia Public Space Committee.  The Federal Reserve says the costs increased due to recommended changes from the agencies that reviewed the project, increased cost of labor and supplies, soil contamination, and more asbestos in the buildings than originally estimated.  The Fed is paying for the entire cost of the renovation project from their income derived from bank fees and interest on government securities.  Unsurprisingly, Trump minions in the current Justice Department are falsely suggesting their investigations into the Fed renovations are motivated by a desire to protect “taxpayer dollars”.

Meanwhile, Trump had the East Wing of the WH demolished in Oct. 2025 without any review by the National Capital Planning Commission.  Trump also fired all six members of the Commission of Fine Arts and replaced them with Trump sycophants.  Trump’s ballroom will be appended to the WH like an ugly wart.  The ballroom with be approximately 90,000 square feet and will overshadow the WH (~50,000 square feet), destroying any sense of visual balance.  Estimated to cost $200 million in July 2025, the projected cost had doubled just five months later.  Trump has said the ballroom project will be paid for by private donors, but thus far has not given a complete list of the donors or how much any of them have pledged to donate.  It seems highly probable that an unknown amount of taxpayer dollars will go into this project.

The corrupt Trump administration holds the position that Trump has the authority to do whatever he wants to the WH without any type of review (of course, they would sing a different tune if a Democratic president were in the WH).  Essentially, they are saying the WH is NOT the “People’s House”, and that it is Trump’s as if he had paid and bought a piece of real estate.

Trump on track to explode the national debt

Below are the MAGA Republican senators who thought increasing the national debt by $3.4 trillion dollars over the 10-year period, 2025-2034, was a good idea because it transfers even more wealth into the hands of billionaires and large corporations (a list of the House representatives who voted for the OBBBA is also available via the hyperlink).  We’re talking about the mis-named “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act.  Not only did they jump at the chance to funnel billions of US taxpayer dollars into billionaire welfare, but they rejoiced at taking away healthcare from millions of Americans by eliminating the ACA subsidies.  No, they had no idea how to pay for this legislation, beyond the elimination of programs that benefit lower- and middle-income Americans, which paid only a fraction of the cost.  The rest will be borrowed:  another example of MAGA’s spend-and-spend philosophy.  Ironically, many of the senators and representatives who voted for this bill prioritized the interests of billionaires who live outside of their states over the interests of their own constituents.

The national debt on Trump’s inauguration day in 2025 (Jan. 20, 2025) was $36.2 trillion.  As of Jan. 16, 2026, the national debt has jumped to $38.6 trillion.  Trump is on track to exceed his performance in his first term, when the national debt increased by $7.8 trillion during Trump’s 4-year presidency, which equals 84% of the $9.3 trillion during the 8-year Obama presidency.  This was more than 25% of the national debt up to that time.

Corrupt Trump administration announces first sale of Venezuela's oil

The corrupt Trump administration has announced that they have arranged the first sale of Venezuelan oil, valued at $500 million dollars.  The profits are to be split among the US government, US oil companies, and Venezuelans, who can only use the money to buy American-made goods (undoubtedly at inflated prices).  No funds will be invested into repairing or improving Venezuelan infrastructure (beyond oil infrastructure to ease the theft of Venezuelan oil by the US).  Currently there are no plans for humanitarian aid (e.g. medicine, food, etc.) for the Venezuelans.  It doesn’t seem like the Trump administration is all that interested in helping Venezuelans after all.  Trump doesn’t devote lots of time and effort to a project unless it benefits himself.  Trump’s administration is being very opaque about how exactly the Venezuelan oil money is being distributed.  It seems highly likely that some fraction is flowing directly into Trump’s pocket, probably under cover of a shell company or companies.

Trump’s justification for invading and taking over Venezuela was that they were bringing fentanyl and cocaine into the US.  It is well known that the main source of illicit fentanyl into the US comes from the drug cartels in Mexico, according to both the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).  According to the DEA, cocaine is extracted from coca leaves grown in Columbia, Boliva, and Peru and purified in remote jungle labs.  Compared to these three countries, Venezuela produces relatively little cocaine and much of that goes to Europe.  Boats from Columbia, Ecuador, and Panama are a main conduit for cocaine entering the US.  If Trump were really concerned about shutting down the illicit drug trade, why didn’t he go after these countries?  Answer:  he is not concerned about illicit drugs coming into the US, he is simply lying to the American people.  His lies about Venezuela as a major drug exporter are merely a pretext to take control of another nation’s valuable natural resource, in this case, oil.

Trump promised to bring down prices for Americans on day one during his 2024 presidential campaign.  After he was elected, he did nothing until the November 2025 election results, which went decidedly south for the Republicans.  Now he’s promising once again to bring prices down, that is, when he’s not spewing lies about there being no inflation and this being the greatest economy ever.  Instead of spending time addressing affordability issues for ordinary Americans, Trump began laying the groundwork for taking control of Venezuelan oil on his very first day as president in his second term.  This was the issue of prime importance to him, not helping Americans.
