and the bird who flies too freely to stay that way
hello!! this is my dol blog where i am mostly going to post about Gwylan because he's making me crazy. Mostly male Gwylan because I use the gender I first get but will tap into female Gwylan. We love scissoring here. As usual, no minors and I will be going into really uncomfortable topics here. Please take care.

I’m also obsessed with yandere characters! And yes, people often have a very narrow view of yanderes. There are actually many types, and even more beyond that.
Kylar and Gwylan are different.
Kylar expresses themselves clearly and violently, and often can’t control their emotions. In other words, their emotions sometimes outweigh reason. They get extremely intense if someone else or the PC provokes them.
But this clear expression makes it noticeable to the PC, who can be more cautious or prepare themselves. It’s a straightforward, honest display, and most yanderes are like this.
Gwylan, however, is different. They are smarter and calmer than Kylar. Many of their decisions are carefully thought out. They’re also cunning and sly, and you can tell they’re a bit mischievous from their reactions.
Gwylan doesn’t need to threaten anyone or explode with emotion like Kylar. They just get close slowly and gently, becoming a support, a light of friendship for you.
Until one day, you realize you choose them every time without thinking.
You trust them more than anyone else.
You open up to them without caution, and you don’t even realize that they’ve been controlling most of the situation, that it is them.
Yes, Gwylan is as cunning as a fox. Gwylan is different from Kylar, and we have no idea that they are gradually controlling us little by little with a sincere, pure smile. Gwylan has even said that they have high persuasive skills, and most people can’t refuse them.
Ah, they are fully aware of what they are doing, and they know exactly what they need to do to get what they want.
Yes, yes, yes, they show no sign at all that they might be even more sinister than we think.
I still remember their image at the start of the game: naive, innocent, weak, harmless, and ready to help the PC. But the deeper the PC gets involved with Gwylan, the more we see their true self. Gwylan is much more than that.
Sorry if this message is too long! If you’ve read this far, here’s a four-leaf clover for you. Hope you have a lucky day today! 🍀💋
Hello!! Thank you for the four-leaf clover!! I will cherish this because I do need some lucky days. Actually how did you color the text, I am new to posting on tumblr because I spend most of my time being a lurker, I'm gonna be real.
I think even if the PC was smarter, or more locked in, and noticed Gwylan was weird.
It wouldn't matter. At the end of the day, who do you have really as a support? There is no one more powerful in that town that would protect you then Gwylan.
Kylar isn't that bad either. Explosive at times and can be unpredictable, but as long as you don't set him off, it's fine. He's like a puppy that whimpers and licks your legs, wanting attention so bad.
Even if you can't sleep at his place, it still feels like visiting a friend and hanging out at their place. Or when you're just sitting at the bench with him, holding hands (because he won't let you go at the moment) or tossing coins into the fountain.
It's all very normal, if you ignored the way his nails dig into your skin or how intense his eyes bore into yours. A lot of things in this town can be normal if you tried hard enough.
Kylar is nice for a time despite everything. But he can't do much for you. He can refill your sprays, take out anyone in the town but Avery? Remy? Eden?
People with actual power that would stomp him out instantly. There's no safety in staying with Kylar, not even if his puppy boy act made your heart skip a beat. It paints a target on your back, unable to truly control his actions if a tense situation came up. It would blow up with him going to jail or you facing the end of his blade.
Gwylan isn't a better choice. From the start, it felt too good to be true. Someone that actually want to hold you with gentle hands and to soothe your tears when you vent your worries to them.
It was slow, messy even with the way he kept dancing between wanting control and wanting to let go. Too selfish to stop letting you sink further into his grasp. And you, too sure you could pull back in time to get away from him.
His conditions are clear. Play the role of a dog at his feet and no one shall touch you again. Whimper when he acts, barks when he orders, and lick when he gives a treat. Not even sleeping at a bed was something free of charge.
You're not stupid. You haven't been truly stupid for a long time, not when you live with someone like Bailey or have someone to take care of.
You are desperate enough to let the collar sink onto your neck and be locked with a kiss. Curling your hair in his fingers, Gwylan smiles at you as if you had a choice in any of this.
"You look so cute, don't you, my dear pet?"
You can't even choose to do anything but to open your lips and bark at your master.
idk if youve seen it but i havent seen anyone else talking about it: i got a scene where gwylan lured my pc back to the shop with seabirds lullaby bc i hadnt done the ritual with them in a while (like a month) cause i was in prison, and when i got out i was gonna check on eden and the wolf pack before talking to gwylan and they were like “no <3” 😆 its got lots of variants cause you can choose to submit to the song or resist it, and if you manage to break free of the song gwylan still hunts you through the forest and tries to force you into the ritual
ive read that scene through the code! tho im gonna plan to get that scene soon - after my stupid finals
amd it's so crazy that gwylan can lure the PC through the lullaby! i thought gwylan wouldn't get more crazy and freakier but ive been proven wrong on multiple accounts
Not mentioning the variants is just leaving how scary the whole scene is.
When you are resisting him, you can special dialogue if you keep pressing resist. Instead of saying Willpower: Impossible, it says this
I couldn't get this one to appear but he does have one where he goes "This is what you wanted, my dear" which is like the creepest one to me. The way he seems to taunt you the entire time you're trying to get away, as if this is just a game to him and he's not taking your resist as proof that you do not want this.
It also gets even more creepy when he tells you that you trying to get away? Well, that's a huge turn on for him.
If pulling you into his house like you're an animal that he lures in for cleansing wasn't enough, telling you that it turn him on even more is just nasty work.
Gwylan, I did not know I was playing a horror game, not a porn game.
The one who is hurt at the end: Gwylan and Abandonment Issues
Gwylan Spoilers and unreleased content under the cut. Read at your own risk.
@dolfaerie
Let me walk with you to this pier.
First of all, did you listen in on my discord calls because I have been ranting to my friend about this. This is exactly what I am talking about and I must have everyone see this. You cannot leave it in tags.
Gwylan is someone who wants to love and cling to you but has burned too many times. From countless lives where he left someone he loves so dearly, to now when he has you.
The PC who I feel like attracts danger like honey to bees. The way you can just truly suffer in this game. From several bad endings that don't truly end you but break you and change your body itself. The PC is dragged under the mud everyday and has to wake up everyday because Bailey needs hie money and Robin is looking real kidnappable right now.
That is not even to say that yes, you will not last forever. Not even in the, oh you are gonna die someday, in this town, I'm surprise they haven't been accidently or on purpose die, or at least try ending your own life.
The horrible things that can happen to you alone makes Gwylan try and keep his distant, not wanting to love you due to such a nature.
Yet he finds you too interesting. You're like treasure that he can't stop trying to figure out everything about you. The way he describes you when he talks about how much he actually cares. How he can't get the sight of you out of his eyes. How he always thinking about you, how he can't stay away from you, even when you kiss him.
He cried for days just because you kiss him and he knew he couldn't live now that you do. That he hoping that the yearning will go down and die, so he wouldn't have to suffer wanting to be with you.
But then you kept wanting to be with you, getting closer to him, making him give in to the part of him that wants you so bad.
The thing that triggers the bad ending is to be Elk Scarred or to leave him alone for a while. Leaving him alone is enough for him to break and keep you trap in his forest shop.
He does it so gently too like I was not expecting drugged tea or needle prick to be the one that gets you. I wouldn't even expect anything if he's acting so normal, I would expect him to use hypnosis to do so.
I think Gwylan who yearns and yearns but doesn't want to let someone in because of that yearning. Afraid of wanting so much that he'll die, especially if a simple kiss is enough to tear him apart.
No wonder he goes so far to keep you with him. In the end, he is the one caged up in his own longing for you. It's only fair if you're locked up as well.
Me checking your blog every few hours cause I’m foaming at the mouth for more Gwylan content: any minute now guys, we’re getting another analysis………
Anon thank you....this is actually my first time running a blog where it actually blew up like crazy. I never experience this before but I also never post writings or anything really popular and new. The only things I post is my final fantasy xiv x granblue fantasy writings. I never post my analysis because I am worried people might walk up and be like Um actually, you are completely wrong and I shall kill you now.
I am busy in real life due to driving lessons and well, lots of friends wanting to spend time with me. I can get a bit overwhelmed and not have a lot of time for myself. I still want to post more analysis but I don't know if I should at times. Sometimes I won't have enough to talk about or I don't think I am really saying something I haven't say already.
I can tell you some of the things I have in my mind to write if I can
Avery and Gwylan
Gwylan Kiss Scene and My Opinion on it
Discussion of what I think is bad writing in Gwylan Route because I do have some issues.
Gwylan and Abandonment Issues which at the time of writing this, I am starting to write.
Gwylan x My PC: Preening her wings during a red moon
I also been looking into roleplays for DOL. I haven't roleplay in a while and I wanted to try my hand at DOL. I just don't know where to start or where to find people who roleplay DOL.
If anyone ever wants to roleplay DOL, or talk about it, or anything, send me an ask or dm. If I haven't reply to your dm, I just been super busy this weekend due to family visiting and other commitments.
Thank you for your patient and interest in my blog thought. It really means a lot to me.
Spoilers for Gwylan route. Read at your own risk and this one is going to be more comparing characters on their yandere level for shit and giggles.
I feel like Kylar is your coughing baby yandere to me. Yes, his darts are deadly and he can just randomly shoot you while you're trying to get your bills paid. Yes, he can kidnapped you, trap you in a mansion, and take your virginity if you don't wear an chastity belt.
He also is easily overpowered (My PC could only kick and she still sent that man to heaven), easily defeated by anyone that isn't Robin or Sydney, and is only really a threat when he's trying to kidnap you.
You can easily get yourself out of the kidnapping situation (as long as you are prepared) as well so he doesn't really pose a threat.
The way he acts shows why. He's implusive, just going off on what he feels. if he feels threaten, if he feels abandoned, if he feels not good enough. he will fly off the handle.
Same character who stab someone because they couldn't sit next to you. A unstable yandere who idolizes you so obsessive and unstable.
Classic in a way but also really funny. In a game where someone that doesn't care about the PC, can send you to a underground brothel or just end up on a farm, the yandere character is more a boon or something to laugh at when he appears.
Gwylan is the complete opposite of this. I would argue he didn't even mean to want to have you in the first. It is a slow burn after all. He needs time for that yearning to overgrow his hesitation towards loving. Years and Years of heartbreak has killed his beating heart so it's going to take a long time.
He really doesn't really do anything at the start, expect for many really weird comments. I am thinking of the Avery one especially right now. He's actually normal at the start, even making sure you are slipping into his hypnosis carefully and safe. He knows how addicting it can be, making you feel safe, comfortable or even whole when Gwylan is nearby.
He makes sure that you don't sink in, keeping you from doing it constantly. Until he starts to yearn for you. Once he finally accept that yes, he wants to enjoy this relationship, even if it's not forever, he finally opens up and show how much he yearns for you.
And god does he yearns. His yearning for wanting you completely tramples your own will. The way he gets you a collar, something that tracks you and make his hypnosis never fail. The way you can't resist anything he asks of you anymore. The way he fully goes into his petplay with you, bringing out the dog bowl and pet beds.
Gwylan is the bigger, more scarier threat because you don't really see any huge signs. He's not stalking you like Kylar, he doesn't kill people, and he only says somewhat out of pocket comments once in a way.
There is no way the PC would know they would end up so deep until it's already too late. With Kylar, the vibes and the garlic breath are the first things you learn about him after two minutes of dialogue. Gwylan? Had me in the first half until he called my pc Canary and I was locked in.
I love the idea of pc being unable to look at gwylan the same way after the forest rape encounter.
Gwylan is the first person to have ever validated their experiences, made them feel less insane, found solidarity and cared soo much about consent.
So when they resist gwylan for the first time, they're unable to compute what'd happened to them with who did it. This same kind person whose now snuffing their voice and raping them. Perhaps pc loved the idea of giving themself to gwylan thinking that they knew they'd never take more than what they can give.
But they did. And now they can't look at them the same way as much as they can't leave them alone. And gwylan knows this. And they're regretful maybe, but to them, regret is an inherent of existence. And regret is probably something they're fine with carrying for the rest of that eternity.
They want to protect pc and their joy, but as far as they know, idk, trauma and happiness with gwylan in all one's devotion shan't be mutually exclusive 🥰
I'm saying this because we don't know in what way gwylan feels after raping pc. After the encounter, gwylan simply says "i hope i didn't overdo it". They're very comfortable with the act, they just don't want to be one of the people who'll break you into pieces under their kneading.
And I love it.
Guys I think I'm willing to write a fanfic on this lol.
Actually you do get a more horrific reaction to raping you from Gwylan. If you let him catch you while he's in heat and he takes your virginity away from, after the combat ends, you will get this.
This is the different choices you can pick
1. Run
2. Sit Still
3. Hug Gwylan
4. Get Revenge
Now, no matter what branch you pick, this isn't really brought up again and you have no choice to go hey Gwylan...wtf was that for. Which is really disappointing that you can't say anything. Even just having Gwylan erase your memory like he usually does when something he thinks is troublesome happens would be better then just ignoring it.
Now I think yes, Gwylan wants to protect the MC but I don't think he really thinks about how you feel as a person. He really views you as treasure, something to keep inside his shop, and then his pet, someone he has to take care of but is ultimately unable to make their own decisions.
I view it when Gwylan goes "I need to protect and care for you" as "I need to protect and care for you because I need you to cure this loneliness I feel. I really don't care if you hate it, I can just make you like it and you are far too deep to resist now. You gave me control even when I warn you and now I can do whatever I please."
Like when he asks if you truly wish to go deeper.
"I'm afraid I'll break you if I let you go any further." He knows the risks if he lets you sink, he's been making sure you stay above the water for your health.
"Yet, a part of me wants this. To just give in and.." A part of him wants it and when he lets it happen, he can't control the way he has power over you. He abuses it immediately and even gets turn on by the way you struggle.
I think even if he feels guilty at times, I think that part of him wins more then it loses.
actually those other reactions from gwylan where's he's raping you is only happens when you're high in pain, in fact it can be consensual and if your pc is high in pain, he'll stop and that dialogue is triggered
THAT IS EVEN WORSE....I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CONVEY THAT BUT I THINK THAT IS LIKE SO MUCH WORSE.
Me when I resist, get put into entranced so I can't fight back but the moment I'm not in pain, it's suddenly consensual.

once this day is over...i can go back to writing about my pc and gwylan...oh and write more analysis posts. It will probably be about the Kiss Scene because I do agree it's poorly handle and I have ideas how to make it better. Maybe I will explain or just write out my own version of it.
I don’t know why, but if Gwylan were a yandere, they would be the scariest yandere of all the love interests in my view.
Were a yandere? Anon, I'm going to hold your hand when I say this!!
Gwylan is the closest we will get to another yandere in the game and by god, is he one. Let's just be objective as possible here. He puts you in a collar that keeps his hypnosis from wearing off. It can tell him whenever you're at and have him come pick you up.
This hypnosis makes it impossible to resist him so he can make do whatever at anytime because he knows where you're at anytime. And judging by the way he seems to roll over you like a steamroller so he can have what he wants, I'm thinking your own will does not matter to him when it comes to getting what he wants.
The only way I can see you get away is to ask to get the collar off, keep visiting him and acting chill. Then disappear for two months and 3 weeks. It takes that long for his hypnosis to disappear from just the tier before sublime devotion. Might be another month for Sublime Devotion, I gotta test it out on another save later. So basically almost a whole season away from him and you will have your mind back.
Also avoid the forest, he will attempt to pull you back into the forest, like instantly. I had to avoid that area so much, bro wanted that cookie bad !!!
Not the scariest yandere I came across but the way he can just snuff out your will is pretty scary. I feel like you must be cunning and lie your ass off if you want to get away from him, but this is in the game. If I took this as if you naturally live there and things get out of the bounds of a game, I would have to account on if Gwylan would try and find you in town or in the farmlands.
Which, I don't know if he would, I think it depends on how much he's yearning for you. He's desperate enough to lure you like a forest denizen the moment you ever look at the forest so I can't say I don't see the possibility. I just don't know how he would execute it, I must ponder on this.
Spoilers for DOL Gwylan Route. Read at your own risk
I do think Gwylan loves the PC at the end of his content for now. His interest at 100 will turn into Love on Dol Vanilla, he gets super affectionate, and it changes from wanting to do the ritual to just wanting to mate with you.
I just think that love isn't the one most people are thinking of. Where he respects your boundaries and is a true pure love where he loves you like a person. The way Robin or Sydney love the PC is not the same way Gwylan does.
Even pushing aside the forced petplay he drops in the PC's lap, It's not really an master and pet relationship fully to me. I would call it a witch and their favorite treasure.
I want to really focus on their confession scene because it really sets the tone for how Gwylan loves you and sees you this whole time.
This is from reddit because I can't pull it from my own save and I didn't screenshot at the time. Evil work that the Scene Viewer doesn't have this.
Link
Everything in his shop reminds him of something, someone. Memories long past, of the lives he used to be before being Gwylan. Take the Chain Tunic for example, the one belonging to Fayne.
This screenshot is from another save of mine.
Deadly protective and really attached to it, the only thing reminding them of Fayne. I can't help but think, the PC is like that for them.
"You're a treasure I can't have" A treasure that walks and has a mind of it's own. A treasure that can just disappear in the corruption of this town one day and he won't hear from you. He makes it clear that he worries about missing you, telling you in the cafe that if you ever disappear, he would dearly miss you.
Now, he also says that he doesn't actually love you. I would say his yearning isn't high enough. Multiple times in his route, it seems that he is actively holding himself back.
From the kiss scene where he kisses back, to how he keeps going to hold your hand but to pull away, or that he longs to sink you deeper into his hypnosis. His yearning is him slowly falling in love with you, unable to hold himself back at some point.
To the point where he starts kissing your cheek and you many times, becoming more affectionate the longer this goes. I still think he views you as a treasure though, judging by how he just ignores your consent and your identity as a person.
At highest yearning, he ignores your freedom, something that he was worry about at the start of it. He puts a collar on you, that lets him go to you whenever he wants, that shocks anyone that tries to take it off, that marks you as his.
His treasure that he can now take anytime, no matter how far they go. His to keep and own no matter what they think or want.
I like to add that with Harpy players, that Gwylan can request that he personally preen your wings. When you do, you get this trait.
Hmm..Preening a bird so thoroughly that they can't fly away from you. Many thoughts on you, Gwylan.
He also calls you the nickname Canary, a bird people tend to know as ones who sings in mines. When it stops singing, poison gas would be in the mines.
I wonder, who would be the poison in this scenario then.
One more thing, about Fayne and Nona. In Ending S, Nona actually returns Fayne's affections and is taken away by him. He takes care of them the rest of their lives, making Nona gain the Stockholm Syndrome Trait with him.
Nona gets this trait because well, her body is all fucked up and she needs someone to take care of it until she can get a new one. Also you need to be very, very dedicated to her. You need to put flowers in her hair, wash it, get her robes, save her, and make a deal with the Ivory Wraith.
Fayne has to care for her, more then any other route and dedicated his life to her, devoted in a way.
Like the PC is for Gwylan.
Devoted to their witch, only feeling whole when they are with them. Like a cycle repeating itself.
But this time, the witch's body is healthy and whole, with a collar and leash on the gaoler.
I wonder, if the PC ever got into a soft bad ending with such high yearning, with Gwylan having such a tight hold on them, and they disappear for a while...

I think the take that Gwylan is a character that focus on trust, vulnerability and consent is a bit wrong in some places. Yes, the early starts of the relationship, Gwylan is a character who seem to care about having your consent, your trust in him. Putting you under hypnotic trances and waiting until it has wear off a bit so you wouldn't have any of the side effects, making sure you are prepare to go though rituals, and even comforting you when you share stories of your traumatic experiences in town.
This falls apart, for me, the moment he puts a dog collar and leash on you, out of nowhere during the second ritual you can do with him. No point did he ask, nor talk about it before hand. He just does so. It gets worse when he makes you 'roll over', even when you choose to simply lay on your back.
To me, Gwylan is a character that truly really only cares about consent until he actually begins to yearn for the PC. Before he really began to have more interest, he rarely ever did anything to the PC, being one of the kindest love interest outside of Robin, Alex and Sydney. Again, this guy comforts you and seemingly is the only one who really gets how it is to live in DOLtown.
But when you delve deeper and unlock him as a love interest, (Side note: I do not agree with how you have to break his boundaries but I'll get into that some other day) it seems all that care goes out the window. The more you fall into his hypnosis, the more you lose control of yourself.
It goes from feeling bad when you don't do his requests, to feeling actual fear and guilt, and then being unable to say no to him. Take the collar scene for example.
You can say no to him and he will know that you say no to him. He can go "Oh, nevermind then. You don't have to put it on." And leave the collar there, for you to put it on if you wish to.
But he doesn't. He snuffs out your will and replaces it with his, literally pushing away your thoughts.
He does this again when you ignore him and go wander in the forest, literally doing the same thing he did to the other denizens of the forests. Singing the Seabird Lullaby and luring you in, even if you resist. If you do resist, you'll get lines of 'Mine to keep', 'Clay between my fingers', 'you wanted this, dear birdie.'
You wanted this. Yes, PC did consent at the time to sink deeper into the hypnosis. But he can clearly understand and hear that you are resisting. That you don't want the collar or you don't want to do the ritual.
He does it anyways, snuffling your will like a candle. He also does it in heat. When in heat and wandering the forest, he will get into a hunting phrase with you before chasing you down.
This is what happens when he catches you and you resist.
He just entrances you so now you can't do anything but lay there. You can't touch him and make him feel good, you can't fight against him. You can't do anything.
I only got this event like twice so far and I have gotten one time where it fade off for a bit so I was able to fight him off. But holy shit, if this isn't a nightmare scenario.
I can go on and talk about how possessive he is, and how his lack of real consent plays into it but that is a post for another time because I have a lot to say on that.
oml YES. as much as Gwylan has overshadowed Sydney as being my fav LI , THIS —gestures at this post— is probably my only issue with Gwylan
especially considering this happens/can happen all before their unimplemented romance shit (since Gwylan doesn’t actually love us as of the content in update 5.10)
Honestly I kinda like that about him because well, I'm a DOL player, I got insane taste about the people I tend to like in fiction.
I would make the argument though that Gwylan does love the PC but it's a expression of possessiveness and wanting to keep you in a way where you would never fade from him.
Also I don't think Gwylan and PC are like Nona and Fayne Ending A. I would say Ending S, especially with the line of Nona having a dead heart that only started to beat for Fayne in the S ending. And during an Ivory Wraith Possession Scene, Ivory Wraith says Gwylan has a heart deader then they do.
Not to mention that Gwylan says his own heart is pretty dead as well, yet I would say that mf is alive and well. It's just very repressed.
trying to write gwylan at 5 am is not working out and i'm trying real hard to be surprised at that. I just wanna write him being a weirdo!!! Why must I need sleep like every other person!!!
If i get this finished, gwylan peening my pc and being very weird about it. we love writing yearning and possessive witches here
