I am considering running a trans-themed Tolkien fandom fic exchange later this year, and I want to gauge the fandom's interest in an event like this! Please give me your honest answers so I can figure out how best to run this :)
Additionally, if you are interested in ANY kind of trans-themed Tolkien event, even if you don't want to participate in a fic exchange style of event, I'd love it if you could take the survey anyway - I have some questions about different kinds of events you might prefer instead.
There are only two required questions, though I'd appreciate if you'd answer the optional ones as well.
You do not have to be trans yourself to take the survey! This event will be focused on trans characters, trans headcanons, and trans themes, but will not be exclusive to trans fans. Cis fans and folks who otherwise don't use the "trans" label are welcome to participate, so long as you are respectful and supportive of trans identities!
Anyone being transphobic regarding this event (or just in general) will be blocked. If this isn't your thing, you can take the survey and answer "no," or else just move on with your life.

Summary:
Throughout the journey to Erebor, Thorin insists on bathing alongside Bilbo, criticizing everything he does and offering to instruct him on how to wash properly. Bilbo, the grown hobbit he is, can clean himself quite well without instruction and promptly ignores Thorin's efforts. Of course, Bilbo can only feign indifference towards the dwarf's behavior for so long.

This is specific to The Hobbit movies, but that Kíli's actor needed to shave his beard. First of all, he is portraying a DWARF. I really dislike when for whatever reason, various people try to divorce Dwarves of their Dwarven characteristics, etc. to make them more "attractive." Dwarven beauty standards would not be the same as human ones, much less those of Men in Middle Earth. The fact he also ended up having a non-Dwarf love interest in the movies after being forced to shave his beard is not great. Like, Tauriel could've loved him with his full Dwarven beard, as much as he could've learned to appreciate her as who she was. That's how interracial relationships *should* work. 0/10 for the people who decided that was a good idea, honestly.
Furthermore, since I've noticed this is a problem elsewhere in the Middle Earth media put out....
Dwarrowdams should have full beards as well! They are Dwarves, too, and it makes no sense for them to have less of a beard simply because of their gender. It's stated that Dwarrowdams pass for male Dwarves to be safe. WHY would they not have thick, luscious beards just like the males?
To go a bit further, I also believe this becomes a problem when people write Dwarf x non-Dwarf pairings. What ends up happening SOMETIMES (because there are people who don't do this thankfully and write these pairings well so I will NOT paint everyone with a broad stroke in this) is that what might be typical Dwarven characteristics are disparaged in favor of stating how those of what race their partner is are better, and/or that they never found their own Dwarven features as appealing. All features can be appreciated equally without this happening.
Let Dwarves be Dwarves. Let Dwarves appreciate their features, AND those of other races if you want. Just stop trying to put our human standards upon a fantasy race that has their own culture and standards which don't have to line up with our own.
Anyways, I feel very strongly about all of this, needless to say.

I made the teeniest, tiniest little pregnant Thorin fic on AO3. I just got the pregnant Thorin brain worm and rolled with it. Yes, Bilbo is the father.

Summary:
Rather than normal cravings during pregnancy—sweets and pastries, stews and pies—dwarves craved something different, something much stranger. It wasn’t out of the ordinary to find a pregnant dwarf in the forge or down in the mines, working away at their “cravings” with stone and metal.
One morning, nearing the end of Thorin’s pregnancy, Bilbo wakes up to find Thorin missing, the dwarf having been woken up by another incessant craving in the night. Wanting to ensure his husband is cared for, Bilbo goes to find him.
How Long?

How Long?
Summary: Gloin's wife is entering her last 2 months of pregnancy and Gloina dn the rest of the Compnay are celbrating, after all a pebble is a blessing.
Only it has been 11 months since Bilbo left the Shire with these dwarves, including Gloin so how can he be happy that is wife is pregnant when it cant be his child?
And as always, an excerpt:
“Bilbo, a dwarven pregnancy lasts between 13 and 15 months,” Ori told his hobbit friend gently. “15 … 15 months???” Bilbo spluttered out, his eyes wide in disbelief. “What’s wrong with that? A dwarf has to grow right, and their bearer is creating the ultimate craft, and that takes time!” Gloin called out, his anger still simmering beneath the calm he was now trying to portray. “Gloin, shut up! Bilbo, how long is a hobbit pregnant?” Ori asked, his voice turning gentle once he was talking to Bilbo once more. “7 months is considered late for the child to emerge,” Bilbo admitted in a small voice as he felt himself shrink into Ori’s side as the ramifications of what he had accused the lovely Loverilli of having done. “But … how do they grow?” Bombur blurted out, his and the other dwarves' minds finding it difficult to imagine such a short gestation. “They are small, and then they feed and grow quickly, like weeds,” Bilbo admitted sheepishly, still unable to look anyone, especially Gloin, in the face.
And that's a wrap!!! Thank you guys so much for making this first year so successful. We feel like we've learned a lot, and will be working hard on how to make it better this next year. One of the things we changed towards the end was to accept WIPs in the collection, so we would like to recognize those writers who met the original parameters of the event and finished their fics!
