So I'm curious. I understand Red is mute on this blog, however would he and/or has he ever spoken if needed? Or even something involuntary like a shout or cry when something happens? Clearly speech wouldn't be something he'd be fully used to and/or capable of due to the long term lack of use of it, but can he/would he still make sounds or noises given the situation?
Ayyyy. I have a lot to tell you my dear friendly anon. I will direct you to some links, but also explain. Mainly because I have yet to actually determine the source of his muteness.

Quick note, the post I linked you to is actually a summary of previous posts. But first and foremost… to answer your first question: Red cannot physically speak. I go really into depth about it. But I honestly have yet to give a reason why. Mainly because I saw a really good fanart of Red where you can actually see why can doesn’t speak. ( has to do with scars tbh ). So while I cannot give you an exact event, I can tell you that there is something wrong with his vocal cords. Like he just cannot talk– simply put. But I mean, he does have a translator!! That is also linked on the above link as well. But essentially his translator ( espeon ) projects his thoughts a little like text-to-speech would but its not robotic. Now, what’s unique about his translator is that she project his voice. Or rather what his voice would have been if his vocal cords were not broken. I have that HC here for you.

2: The answers to your questions
Has he ever spoken if needed? Yes – through his translator. But only when he has nothing else to use. It is his LAST resort.
Or even something involuntary like a shout or cry when something happens? Not really? He takes everything internally anyway, but you won’t hear a scream from him. And his cries are actually really quiet.
Can he/would he still make sounds or noises given the situation?Give his nature, he probably wouldn’t. He still laughs and cries and whatnot. But as I have said they are really quiet. They are definitely not obnoxiously loud or anything. You wouldn’t hear it in a crowded room or somewhere where there is a lot of noise. But if you happened to get him alone and listen really carefully, you can hear him. his laughs ( when he does cause they are rare to begin with ) are a little louder than his cries. His cries are a little muffled mainly because he wants to hide them anyway. And then when it comes to coughing or something of that sorts, its ( again ) rather quiet.
