What if, what if…?

Ben wasn’t actually on Exegol with Rey? What if the bond brought him to her? Since she did take his ship leaving him healed on Endor, right?

And when Palpatine was defeated, and last living Skywalker managed to bring his dyad girl back he lost all his energy, and maybe the Force sensitivity, so he couldn’t maintain the bond and came back to Endor, where he actually never left.

Therefore, knowing that Rey is alive and well, thinking of him gone, Ben decided to stay away from her, since no matter how much he has changed in last few days, the Republic will charge him for all the crimes committed by the First Order.

So, self exile, probably seemed like a good idea to him.

Also, Skywalkers are known for exiling themselves, right? Like uncle like nephew.
