Let’s start off a month of Penguin covers by getting Romek Marber right out of the way. Hired by art director Germano Facetti to re-brand Penguin’s Crime series, he designed over 70 of these covers using his now-famous Marber Grid– a solution that retained Penguin’s famous brand-recognition while moving the company into a bold and modern aesthetic era. I love the white cut out figures he included as an author identifier for Dorothy L. Sayers.
