Ophiel's Mercury Retrograde Mitigation Ritual

Some people might think Mercury retrograde is unavoidable while other thinks it is insignificant. Everyone have their own opinion about Mercury retrograde. I don't know how people approach it or what they do with it but here's my two cents. Try and see what work with you. I personally find miscommunication and misinterpretation is rampant during this time, electrical and electronic stuff tend to go haywire..I don't like that in my IT-related job. All of this is anecdotal but maybe you feel it differently. This spell works with Olympic spirit Ophiel of Mercury, I asked for permission to share the spell and got general approval. The instruction specifically is to draw a triangle, within it the Seal of Ophiel on a mirror, followed by lighting a candle or shinning a desk lamp at it. How does it work? I don't know! but it does! I did as the instruction but personally added a few parts by myself, including incense mix of sweet smelling herbs, an alcoholic offering, alongside the Orphic Hymn to Hermes and Hermes Chthonios, concluded by a prayer to mitigate the effect of mercury retrograde from my life and my loved ones. I did it on 19th of April 2023 just before the mercury retrograde on April 21 until May 14. Do I know how it would be without doing this ritual? I don't know really, for me it is better be safe than sorry! From my own experience I found out that when I don't do anything to mitigate the mercury retrograde's effect, I find out miscommunication between me and my loved ones, colleague at work, and so on.

Elminx's Guide to Augmenting Your Spellwork

This guide is intended to be allied to the type of spellwork that draws something towards you or is desirous of change within yourself. The goal here is to create actions throughout our day or week that bring our thoughts back to the magic that we have performed. From my way of thinking, this keeps the stream of magic flowing in the right direction through your returned focus. It can have the added benefit of reminding you to take the actions in the world that are necessary for the success of your spellwork.

There will be a number of examples following but they all have the same theme: doing something during your initial spellwork that you will return to after the spell has been cast to keep your attention focused in the direct on what you want. Some of these things will be very obvious and you will have seen them before - others may be less so and better suited to a person in the broom closet. Some of these are standalone spell techniques on their own; here I am trying to convey that when combined together, multiple types of spellwork can have a greater effect than individually.

The idea is to continue to do the things listed below until your spell has manifested. Yes, there are obviously too many to do all at once. You are, as always, free to pick the ones that fit the spell best or the ones that fit your own lifestyle. Or to disregard all of them altogether.

Create an altar for your spell Say that I was going to create a spell for money to make sure that I could pay my rent on August 1st. I would create a money altar for my spell, do my spell on the altar, and keep all of the spell ingredients (including candle remains and any nonperishable offerings) up for the month of July. If I was going to create a spell to combat the upcoming Venus retrograde, I would keep the altar up all the way through the end of the retrograde. The visual reminder of the altar helps to realign your thoughts toward that spell.

Feed your spell This one goes along with the first nicely. This can look like a lot of different things - it could be adding coins to a money bowl or a spoonful of sugar to a sweetening jar. It could be burning incense on your altar for success on your exams every Sunday. It could be successively lighting small candles to charge your spell for a set number of days, weeks, or on every full moon. If you work with spirits of deities, it could be making repeated offerings while you ask for help with your spellwork. If you are the type of person who sticks to schedules well, make it a scheduled thing. You could align it with the days of the week if you're into that or with the moon cycles. If you're not a scheduler, do it when you remember.

Mantras (and other Spoken representations of your spell) If you are a verbal person, word magic may work very well for you. This can be anything from one phrase to a rhyming couplet - the idea here is that it is something that you remember to repeat to yourself. I think that this type of magic work especially well when doing work on changing something about yourself, but you may find a use for it in other areas that I have not. Ideas for using mantras: say them when you wake up or before you fall asleep at night, say them while looking in the mirror while getting ready in the morning. Or, simply say them when it would be appropriate for the magic that you have worked.

Sigils (and other Visual Representations of your Spell) If you are a visual person, sigils and other types of art magic can help you to augment your magic. The idea is to charge or create your symbol during the casting of your magic and then return to it throughout your days. Depending on your situation, you may able to hang your artwork or sigil on your mirror in your bathroom or even on your fridge. If you cast a spell to get better tips, carry the sigil or wear it when you are working. You can draw sigils on your skin with lotion or other skincare. This can be at once the most obvious forms of magic (think the Bluetooth symbol) and the most discreet. You can incorporate your sigil onto something you handmake like clothing (inside your clothes or out), jewelry, or any number of other charms.

Put it in a Jar (and other Physical representations of your magic) Yes, jar spells and other container magic are a topic all onto themselves. But have you thought about putting the remains of a spell into a jar? This is a very sympathetic view of magic, but it makes no sense to me to cast a spell to bring something toward you and then immediately get rid of the objects used in the spell. It's counterintuitive to throw something away that you want. N'est pas? Instead, put the items you used in the casting of the spell into a jar or bag and keep it somewhere safe until the spell comes to pass. This is where an altar to your spell comes in handy - it's a place to house this object. Bonus: this makes it harder for sneaky people or inquisitive animals to find their way into your spell components. Other versions of this include putting your intentions for the spell into an object such as a stone or a piece of jewelry and carrying it with you every day.

Invoke Your Senses Again, this is strictly my opinion, but magic involves both the unconscious and the conscious mind. The best way to hijack your unconscious mind and keep it aligned with your consciousness is through the base senses like smell and taste. They tap right the fuck in as they are deeply connected to our memory centers. Here I suggest picking a scent or flavor from your spell and incorporating it into your life for the duration afterward. If you use rose petals, buy yourself a rose-scented soap or rose perfume. If you use basil, make yourself pesto once a week or work to otherwise incorporate basil into your meals. As far as food goes, items like jams and simple syrups are perfect for this purpose if applicable. This involves a bit more planning than some of the other suggestions but can be very rewarding (and tasty!). Alternatively, if sound is important to you, you could use a piece of music during your spell and then play it repeatedly to reactivate the feeling of the spell. Or, if you're very musically inclined, you could write your own song or simply set your mantra/words to music in some fashion.

This is a very non-exhaustive list of some of the techniques that I have used to keep the energy of my spells flowing when I am working on a longer manifestation. Mostly, as stated above, these techniques are best used for magic designed to bring something towards you or to change something about yourself but they can be adapted for use with other types of magic as well.

Again, the goal here is to create moments throughout your day or week where your attention is turned back to your magic through repetitive actions such as showering with rose soap or donning a necklace you made with your sigil every morning.

If your Ruling Planet is Retrograde it will make you doubt yourself more and you may experience self image issues.

For example: A Gemini Rising with a natal Mercury retrograde or A Sagittarius Rising with a natal Jupiter retrograde.

Mercury Retrograde gives you lessons around communication, learning and intellect. You may struggle to articulate words and speak up or may even talk too much and not know when to be quiet.

Venus Retrograde makes someone’s nature more intense & deep. They take their connections very seriously which may cause these individuals to go through difficulties in regards to their one on one relationships. Since socialising is not taken lightly there can be some sort of awkwardness when participating in small talk and general shyness in order to avoid superficial connections.

Mars Retrograde individuals may lack forward movement, assertive abilities, have a dulled passion & drive. They may feel fatigued & tired more than often. Your sex drive may also be effected because of this.

Jupiter Retrograde individuals tend to have different or unusual perspectives, belief systems, or sets of morals. They prefer to learn from their own experiences rather than from others. This placement gives me “what do you know because you’ve experienced it yourself VS what do you know because you were told” vibes.

Saturn Regrograde burdens you with responsibilities and a sense of duty in your life. You may struggle with boundaries and find it difficult to say no to others.

Uranus Retrograde may make it hard for you to fully express your inner originality and unique side. These individuals are born a rebel and may also experience unexpected & sudden karmic events in their life.

Neptune Retrograde takes away your rose coloured glasses, you may have to face hard and painful realities as the neptunian illusion is stripped away when in retrograde. You’re meant to discover the truth behind your illusions, realise what is sacred and be a source of light in others lives.

Pluto Retrograde brings more growth opportunities into your life. You may have a fear of letting go which you’re here to learn the importance of doing so. Pallas Retrograde may make someone aggressive, immature, have criminal tendencies and daddy issues. These individuals strategy may not be accept by society, with a ‘pick me’ vibe. They are inclined to be manipulate and lie but can overcome these traits with self awareness and shadow work.

Amor retrograde individuals have some sort of discomfort when it comes to romance. You may have some old love issues and traumas to work through. These people tend to take a different approach to romance.

Cupido Retrograde may mean you have way too many crushes or rarely have any. You become too infatuated at times, or lack passion, and need to find a balance between the two.

Eros Retrograde may cause some issues around sex. This indicates there may be past trauma on a soul level, so you need to work on acknowledging your desires and acting on urges and fantasies in a healthy way.

Hermes Retrograde people tend to be in the crowd and often find themselves taking the fall for others mistakes. These people tend to be good people but they may not be the best at balancing their life and managing their time. Possible fertility issues. Due to past accidents or incidents they have experienced in a past life may give them travel-related fears in this life. (fear of flying, fear of water, fear of driving, fear of bikes, fear of trains, fear of horses, etc.)

They may feel unseen and unappreciated by others, making it often difficult to appreciate themselves. They tend to experience a lot of drama and may not be the most jealous person but rather the person who is too insecure to be openly jealous as if it’s like they expected it, “too good to be true” vibes.

aries sun

+ pisces mercury - way more vague and not-in-your-face than what you’d expect from an aries. they often sound as if they speak in riddles, and mind you, they WILL still speak a lot and in an authoritative way regardless if they make sense or nah but there’s still a softness in their words that hits different. they give aries the reputation of having a hidden sensitive and submissive side.

+ gemini mercury - the most emotionally detached one. these cancers can have a very keen understanding of people’s minds/emotions and they may use this knowledge in a manipulative way while maintaing an innocent facade (i mean, all cancers are prone to this but a gemini mercury makes you more rational and cunning so it’s more likely that you’d be able to manipulate others without giving yourself away). they often pull the strings backstage. they give cancer the reputation of being cunning and elusive.

+ cancer mercury - the sad poets. these people see the world in a melancholic light but also manage to find beauty and meaning in so many things and if they channel this talent into writing, well, they can be extremely inspirational and touching. good listeners but also rest assured they’re taking mental notes of your weak spots when they listen. often struggle with negative thoughts about themselves. they give cancer the reputation of being depressive and lyrical.

+ leo mercury - the scorpionic one. srsly….mix cancer and leo and you get smth very similar to scorpio lmao. extremely vengeful and will go after you if they feel like you’ve wronged them. i’m underlining the “FEEL” part cuz they can be pretty subjective about it and lash out at people for selfish reasons. very sensitive and the ego might be hurt easily so they might see being nonchalant as smth good but also crave intensity in their life almost as hard as scorpio venus does. the most extroverted ones. they give cancer the reputation of being vengeful and intense.

+ cancer mercury - the leos that surprise you with how introverted they are. they’re a little far from the classical image of the flamboyant loud leo that needs public recognition. they’re more likely to seek validation and express themselves in front of someone they know and feel comfortable with. the leo that’s most likely to pay more attention to what others say than to their own voice. they give leo the reputation of being nurturing and clingy. (add a cancer venus as well and the situation gets easily out of hand)

+ leo mercury - the most creative ones of the bunch. they focus on learning how to value their ideas and voice and to get it out there, to express openly. there is a judgemental side to them tho, also they often get carried away with listening to themselves talk and start ranting on for hours about things that are not connected to the original topic. they give leo the reputation of being self-absorbed and strongly expressive.

+ virgo mercury - the leo that’s most likely to not follow their heart; at least not without including some thought as well. thought out actions and analytical approach rather than expressive. may struggle with expressing themselves confidently and to feel like their voice is not loud enough. they give leo the reputation of being eager to help and difficult to satisfy.

+ leo mercury - the least shy ones. not that they can’t be withdrawn too but those virgos always seem to find a way to shine. they need an outlet for their creative energy where they can receive openly validation. compared to the others virgos, they’re most likely to admit they’re deeply affected by what others think of them. they give virgo the reputation of being confident and bossy.

+ virgo mercury - the overOVERthinkers. yes, all virgos think themselves to exhaustion but these ones have it especially hard. their mind is a literal maze and it takes all of their focus and mental energy to not get lost. also that’s how they develop their excellent organizational skills. they give virgo the reputation of being deeply analytical and orderly.

+ libra mercury - the writers. if you’re a virgo sun/libra mercury, you have both the dedication and the talent to write down literal masterpieces and if you still haven’t started, maybe you should give it some thought. those virgos combine their natural sense for atmosphere and aesthetics with the impeccable analytical intuition that helps understand things objectively. they give virgo the reputation of being a smooth talker and of being seductive yet cold at the same time.

libra sun

+ virgo mercury - the poet. idk a single libra with virgo mercury that hasn’t written a lot of poetry in some part of their life. also they’re quite likely to express strong opinions and to be very good at defending them. sharp thought, might come off a bit too cold and mean sometimes but not in a rude way, just a bit as if they lack compassion. they give libra the reputation of being argumentative and a devil’s advocate.

+ libra mercury - the perfect one. add a libra venus as well and count yourself immediately in love. these libras are smooth talkers, always listening to others and trying to make them feel supported and as if they agree with them and see their point of view. can be pretty hard to get to know their more private self because they tend to hide parts of themselves that won’t please others very deeply. this often makes them appear like an ideal partner. they give libra the reputation of being heartbreakers and perfect lovers.

+ scorpio mercury - the one that understands. don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean the rest of the libras ain’t understanding, it’s just libras aren’t focused on penetrating the other’s mind, their goal is to please, not to dissect. scorpio mercury makes one a sharper observer and also more interested in plunging in the depths than in reflecting the surface. they give libra the reputation of being manipulative and knowing more than they show.

+ libra mercury - they actually love flirting and are pretty good at it. the sag ones may come off as too direct, the scorp ones are reluctant to reveal their feelings and may come across as…creepy and intense, but the libra ones…oh boy. they know all about social niceties and also all about how to avoid them without being awkward or scary. it would appear, at least on the outside, that they’ve managed to control their raw plutonic energy and to express it in a more balanced way. This is what the Aquarius Age Looks like in a Chart Rite now

This is what the Age of Aquarius looks like rite now I think. To form this conclusion I am am going on the fact the world ages move retrograde. This means the ingress (entry point) into the Aquarius Age is 29th degree Aquarius. This is why I played around to get a 29 degree Aquarius Rising in solar fire. Factors like the time and location do not matter; just the degree of the rising. Since we are in the early manifestation of the Aquarian Age I must presume the 29th degree is correct. A world age is 2160 years long…..So one degree covers 72 years.

This above chart is a portrait of the world rite now. This chart should not be used an ongoing reference point to see how the planets NOW effect the energy of the world’s direction (Aquarius Age. Planets like Mercury, Moon, move fast and always changing houses and signs….So the above chart is a reference using Aquarius 29th degree as how we should “set the chart” for the Aquarius Age.

I don’t think we are that progressed into the Aquarius identity in the past 72 years to think we are that departed from Pisces Age Concepts. For that reason, being in the point of transition, I feel the 29 degree is appropriate. We are in flux, a changeover in energy…and the world is fighting to integrate the Aquarius movement against the establishment of Pisces world views the past 2000+ views. This is what I believe creates all the tension…because essentially the world ages backward and break the trend of what society has created for itself over a long period of time.
