So you did. At first you thought he wouldn't even notice. You were wrong. The second you got in his truck he grabbed your hand off the center console.

"The hell is this?" You rolled your eyes. "My nails" "They're sharp."

"That's kinda the point." For some reason that made him grin. The whole day he wouldn't leave them alone.

Every time you reached for something he'd take your hand and look at them again like he'd never seen nails before.

By the evening you were sitting on the dock while the sun started dropping over the water. Rafe was stretched out beside you with his head in your lap.

Without thinking you ran your fingers through his hair. Immediately his eyes closed. "There it is." "What?" "That." You laughed. "You're weird." "Nah. Do it again."

So you scratched lightly against his scalp with your new nails. The sound he made was honestly embarrassing.

"Oh my God." "Rafe." "Keep going." You nearly fell off the dock laughing.

Later, when you were walking back toward the truck, you dragged your nails lightly down his back through his t-shirt.

He actually stopped walking. "You good?" "Yeah."

"You froze."

"I know." "You are ridiculous." He just grabbed your hand again.

Every morning you'd drag a bucket across the dock, climb aboard, and scrub salt stains while pretending you didn't notice people looking at you like you were invisible.

His silence answered the question.

"Oh my God."

He looked away.

You started laughing harder.

"You ARE."

"Whatever."

"You are."

"Shut up."

You could barely breathe from laughing.

Then you reached up and fixed the collar of his shirt.

"Sorry, husband."

The smile appeared instantly.

Like immediately.

You pointed at him.

"There it is."

"What?"

"That stupid smile."

"I don't have a smile."

"You do."

"Nope."

"You absolutely do."

He rolled his eyes and pulled you closer anyway.

"Keep talking and I'm leaving you on the beach."

"You won't."

"Why?"

You grinned.

"Cause I'm your wife."

You started laughing.

Rafe grabbed the watch box, turning it over.

A tiny silver heart sat in the corner.

For some reason he couldn't stop smiling.

"You know what?" he said.

"What?"

He tossed the box down and wrapped an arm around your waist.

"Kinda like it."

Your jaw dropped.

"Seriously?"

"Yeah. Makes my stuff easy to spot."

You snorted.

The next day he showed up with a brand new black lighter and casually set it in your lap.

"What?"

Rafe kissed the top of your head.

"Missed a spot."
