grateful to the simple themes for flight rising stylus folks for updating so the site doesn't randomly induce migraine auras again

also they added a bunch of other fun theme colours and stuff so if you're still struggling with the UI update definitely check it out

#fr ui update #i really like the pastel themes i just can't use them for everyday browsing #but they are super cute #one caveat is that for the dark mode improvement you need to use the Dark theme which is very bad and also ungood #but once you get the stylus extension working its fine #fr devs just keep pumping out low contrast unfinished themes so i'm reallocating all my faith to the stylus gang

#flight rising #idk why they called it magpie it's clearly ghost volume 2 #i always really liked the og ghost spots so i am glad they're released in some form. i do wish we had the og spots with the modern gradient #but can't win em all! probably!

having finally learned what staff has done to the website i am so incredibly stunned anyone on the dev team greenlit these design choices. i had a slightly more resilient day yesterday and spent a little bit of time checking out the visual noise level of a bunch of different pages (dragon pages and the AH are the website equivalent of radioactive for this, don't go there) and comparing old vs new designs and all I can say is good lord.

I have the possibly unpopular opinion that not everything Can be accessible to everyone all of the time but I do firmly believe that if the fr devs want to dip a toe into this pool they need to get educated and smarten up about these things right quick. this update has revealed a catastrophic gap in their knowledge on what is clearly a fairly critical component of the website (ie., the whole thing).

Personally: if you've got icons for your ui use them. Use them. Use them and make sure that if it's necessary, the icons themselves say what they are for screenreaders.

#idk how good fr is for screen readers in general but #this is a very nice mockup #that doesn't hide info from me or make my eyes burn out of my skull #fr UI update

in other news, FR being unusable has caused me to remember that pawborough exists. its kinda okay? i appreciate that it has Some Stuff without feeling like it has an overwhelming amount of stuff, but mostly i just appreciate that i don't have to be very invested to get things and have a nice time. and nobody starves or runs away or dies or whatever.

the scene system is also very fun, i love making my cats be absurd sizes

anyway idk how active i will be there overall but i'm wolschalk #4461 if anyone wants to be pawneighbours

wait oh my god is it the astigmatism??? is that why the high contrast hurts so bad? do I actually have the right to complain about the accessibility updating making this less accessible for astigmatic users???

I could get used to all the UI changes - even if I think some choices are ugly as sin, but oh well - but the fact that all three modes literally hurt my eyes, is ,,, quite something. I'm honestly shocked how they managed to do this :''D I do have a bit of sensitivity but I never had this happen before with any other site: if the dark mode was no good, then I had no issue with the default.
