Happy New Year everyone. It’s already 2017 in Australia, so I thought it was time to give you guys a little update. This year I will be much more active on this blog and in fact, I’m going to start a Riley and Lucas meme titled 100 days of rucas. The first day will be up soon.

the second first date

“you are my only exception.”

(in which Riley and Lucas have their first date as a couple.)

I was doing some of my homework on my bed when my boyfriend of three days entered through my window. 

“Hey girlfriend.” He smiles as he sits at my bay window.

“Hi boyfriend,” I smile back and slightly shake my head at him, “You do know we have rules now and we have a front door.”

“I’m not familiar with a front door, but I might try and use it later tonight when I pick you up.”

“Pick me up for what?”

“Well, I was thinking since we’re very officially together, we should go on our first date. And since you’re already my girlfriend, you can’t refuse.” 

“Oh really?” He nods with the grin permanently painted on his face.”Where are you taking me on this date?”

“Would I be a good boyfriend if I told you?”

“Yes!” I exclaimed.

“Rhetorical question, my sweet Rileybean. It is a beautiful fall day and all I can say is that we are going to appreciate this beautiful fall day on our second first date.”

“You’re taking me on a picnic aren’t you?” I smirked at my predictable boyfriend and the grin on his face disappeared.

“I’m going to leave now before your father comes in and catches me. Wouldn’t want our date to be cancelled. Bye, Riles!” He rushed out of my window and I just chuckled at him.

I couldn’t stop smiling, knowing I had such an adorable boyfriend who has always been a true gentleman. 

Me: So what time is this date, loverboy?

Lucas💙: I will pick you up at 6. Dress warm, beautiful.😍

Me: Kk, Flirt. Should I tell my dad? Or will you?

Lucas💙: Don’t worry, let me handle everything.

Me: Kk! Can’t wait for our picnic!!!! 🍽☀️🍂🍁😂

Lucas💙: 😒 I am not telling you anything next time.

Me: How are you so sure there will be a next time?😂

Lucas💙: 😔 I’m so hurt, Rileybean.

Me: I’m only joking, Luke. See you later!😘😘

I finished my homework and took a short nap before getting ready for my date. By the time I finished dressing up, my mother called me saying Lucas was here.

“…So would I be able to take her out on a date?” I came out into the living room to hear Lucas asking my father’s permission to take me out. He had a picnic basket and blanket ready on the couch beside where he stood and he was dressed in a cute little sweater.

“Lucas, honey, you don’t have to ask us to take Riley out-”

“Speak for yourself, Topanga. I like this routine he’s doing.” My father grins and my mother was glaring at him.

“Did you interrupt me?” She smiled her sarcastic smile at him and fear took over his face.

“Of course not. I was just saying, Lucas you don’t have to ask our permission to take Riley out.” He says with gritted teeth.

“Aww, really Daddy?” I exclaimed and hugged my dad. “Thank you.”

“Be home by 10.” He grumbles and walks away.

“Love you!” I yell out to him.

“Love you too, honey.” He grumbles back.

“Have fun, you two.” My mother smiles lovingly at us.

“Thanks, mom. Love you.” I hug her, get my light jacket, and go to Lucas.

“Thank you Mrs. Matthews.” Lucas says before we leave. 

I loop my arm through Lucas’ arm while we walk out the door and he moves my hand to hold it instead.

“I hope it’s okay with you that we walk to the park. I don’t get my license till next month.”

“It’s okay,” I shrug. “Like you said, it’s a nice day. Might as well enjoy it.” 

He smiles at me and we walk through the park and set up at a spot under a tree that still had most of its leaves intact. The leaves were a bright almost orange yellow colour that reflected the sun that was rapidly setting. The sun was a beautiful mix or bright orange, pink, and light purple hues that reminded me a little of pumpkins and cotton candy. The wind blew lightly, enough to bring air to our faces, but not enough to leave us shivering in our sweaters. Lucas was right, it was a nice day today.

“This is perfect, Luke.” I told him as he was looking through the picnic basket, making sure he had everything.

“Wait, really?” He was mildly surprise and I giggled fondly at him.

“Why are you so surprised?” 

“I’ve been planning this since we left the ski lodge. I’ve been pretty much racking my brain trying to give you the perfect date. I really wasn’t sure if this would be it.”

“Hey,” I take his chin in my hand, and move his face to look at me, “this is perfect. Any date idea would have been perfect because I’m with you.” He smiles and plants a kiss on my cheek. 

“I agree. Now, I hope you’re hungry because,” He takes some food out of the basket and wiggles them in my face, “I brought some sandwiches, some iced tea, and some cake.”

“Awwww, you’re so cute, Lukey.” I pinch his cheek and steal a sandwich from him. 

We both start eating and keep talking with our mouths full of the chicken sandwiches that Lucas made us. Oblivious to any of the dogwalkers passing us by and staring.

“You have food on your face, Riles.” He laughs and wipes the side of my mouth where the leftover crumbs were. I gave him a sandwich-filled grin and said a muffled thank you. He gave me his little nod laugh and continued eating his sandwich.

By the time we finished eating it was almost completely dark out, so we packed up our things and walked around instead. His hand held mine as we danced around the street lamps and he continuously twirls me around. 

“You think this date is better than our first ever date?” I asked while I hugged his arm and we walked through my neighbourhood.

“I don’t know…” He thought about it, moved in front of me then held my face and kissed me. “Nope. I like this one better.” He grinned and I slapped his arm.

“I’m supposed to kiss you!” He gasped.

“You kissed me the first time!” 

“I know and it’s a tradition now and you broke it!”

“My moment was literally me finally kissing you.”

“I thought your moment was us getting together.”

“That too. But initially it was me kissing you, remember?”

“Yeah, but I kissed you on our first date, so I should get to kiss you on our second first date.” I pouted.

“Fine. Then, kiss me!” 

I took his face in my hands and kissed him, but he held on to me so I wouldn’t pull away so soon. 

“You happy now?” He asked with a smile.

“Yeah,” I blushed, “Aren’t you?” 

“Of course I am.” He pulls me into him and kisses the top of my head, “I always am when I’m with you.”

I look up at him at him smile brightly before we make our way up to my apartment. I couldn’t have asked for a better second first date with Lucas Friar.

Riley Matthews obsession with animals started in the eighth grade when she was told that she was going to be a bunny farmer when she was older. When Riley was a Junior in high school she was celebrating her two year anniversary with her boyfriend Lucas Friar. The two of them were walking around Central Park, when Riley stopped in her tracks after hearing something, it sounded like a dog wimping.

“Did you hear that?” Riley asked.

“Yeah, I did.” Lucas says and the couple see’s where the noise is coming from. The couple found a mini fox terrier laying beside a tree; the dog was clearly hurt. Riley being like she was, wanted to help the poor puppy and Lucas agreed with her.  

“So what should we do?” Riley asked.

“Well he isn’t hurt too badly, so I suggest that we take him back to my place. He doesn’t seem to have a owner, so we can take him to the pound in the morning.” Lucas said. Riley had her cardigan tied around her waist, so she took it off and handed it to Lucas, so he could keep the dog warm, as it was also shivering.  At some point during the walk home, Riley was holding the puppy and looking at him. It seemed like the puppy should be named Bambi, Riley’s obsession with Disney seemed to be in full force at that current moment. When they arrived at Lucas’ place, Riley took Bambi to Lucas’ room and put him on top of some old blankets that she had found in the storage cupboard. (She couldn’t let the dog not have a name, so it was Bambi just for this night.) Lucas joins Riley in his room a few minutes later, giving Bambi food and water. The couple was sitting down on the floor just watching Bambi, both of them were falling in love with this animal even after just short time, but neither of them told the other. Riley stayed with Bambi and her boyfriend until her mother started calling.

“Hello.” Riley answered her phone.

“Riley, where are you? It’s passed your curfew.” Topanga said. Riley looked at the time and her mother was right.

“I’ll be right home, I lost track of the time.” Riley told her mother and ended the call.

“Sorry babe, I gotta go. I’ve missed curfew. I’ll see you tomorrow, take care of Bambi for me.” Riley said to her boyfriend.

“Bambi?” Lucas questioned. True be told, Lucas liked the name Bambi for this dog.

“What he has to have a name.” Riley said, kissing her boyfriend and then Bambi on his wet nose. Riley got up from the floor, grabbed her things and headed out of Lucas’ apartment.

When Riley got home, her mother was waiting for her.

“So how was your night?” Topanga asked her daughter.

“Magical.” Riley replied.

“Yeah, so what happened to make you miss curfew?” Topanga asked in her Mumma Bear tone.

“Lucas and I were walking in Central Park and we noticed a dog that was just left there abandoned. So we decided take Bambi to Lucas’ place and we’re taking him to the pound tomorrow.” Riley told her mother.

“Bambi is the dog’s name right?” Topanga asked.

“Yes. Well I’m heading to bed, night.” Riley said.

“Night.” Topanga said, and Riley went upstairs. Once changed in her pj’s Riley was in her bed texting Lucas.

Riley: So how is Bambi?

Lucas: He’s sleeping peacefully.

Riley: Well I love you and Happy Anniversary Bear.

Lucas: I love you too Princess. Happy Anniversary.

Riley went over to Lucas’ with cups of coffee from Starbucks, it was what they did every morning.

“Morning boyfriend.” Riley said to her boyfriend who was sitting at the kitchen table, Bambi was sitting behind him on the floor.

“Morning girlfriend.” Lucas replied.

“So how was Bambi last night?” Riley asked, coming to sit next to her boyfriend. Lucas grabbed his coffee.

“He was good, slept through the night surprisingly, and he didn’t leave anything behind.” Lucas said.  

“So are we taking him to the pound today?” Riley asked.

“Yeah we are.” Lucas said. In truth Lucas didn’t want to take Bambi to the pound.

“I don’t want to take him to the pound, I want to keep Bambi. I’ve fallen in love with him.” Riley said.

“I want to keep him too, I like him too. He reminds me of a dog I had back in Texas. Lucas said. It was decided that Bambi wasn’t going to the pound, he became Riley and Lucas’ first ‘baby’.

A few years later, the couple got another mini fox terrier, they named her Belle. (Well Riley did.) They still had Bambi, and they had just moved into a town house close to NYU, the college where Riley and Lucas attended. They were in their second year. Riley was studying teaching and Lucas was studying to become a Vet. The couple loved having two dogs and they were never vicious towards anyone. The dogs did jump all over them, but they didn’t mind.

Riley’s obsession was kept at bay for another few years until the day when Lucas was away in Texas visiting family, Riley didn’t join him as she was 8 months pregnant. Riley wanted to go to the pet store for some reason, unknown to her best friend Maya Hart, but they went. Once the two of them got there, Riley was in awe of the animals that she got two more pets; a bunny and a Scottish Fold cat. She was sure that Lucas would think she was crazy, but she didn’t care, she had baby brain, plus she wanted more animals to keep her company when Lucas was away as she knew two wasn’t enough for one Riley Matthews - Friar.

Lucas got home from Texas the next day, Riley had forgot to mention that two new pets inhabited their house. He noticed the kitten sleeping by the door when he walked in.

“Riles, I notice that we have a new pet.” Lucas said to Riley, who was in the kitchen.

“Yeah, we also have a new bunny. The cat’s name is Snow White and the bunny’s name is Arial.” Riley said.

“Still going with the Disney names I see.” Lucas said.

“And I always name our pets Disney Characters, you got a problem with that?” Riley asked. Lucas went over to his wife and hugged her from behind.

“No, but I do think your obsession with animals is getting out hand.” Lucas said. Riley smiled, she didn’t care that she was turning into a crazy animal lady.
