“I don’t know about you, but I could desperately use a coffee.”
“I could use about five.”
// @secretsummerstarters
“You, uh... want another?”
“I’m fine I swear. You should see the other guy.” // @secretsummerstarters
“If you say so. Need a drink?”
manxn-wilsxn:
“Glad to hear. The author releases a new one every year, so if you ever catch up, you never have to wait too long for the next one in the series. It’s kind of nice, actually.”
Riley smiled, nodding. “Well, that’s good... sounds like he’s not short on inspiration.” He chuckled. Riley definitely liked a nice read but he didn’t have much of a creative bone in his body so he could admire those that did. “I’m sure I’ll catch up in no time... outside of work, I have no life.” He chuckled, taking out his wallet and fumbling for his card.
audrey--henderson:
Audrey looked down at the glass, taking a deep breath. She hated that she felt this way because she knew it was overdramatic, but at the same time she couldn’t exactly stop how terrible she felt. She frowned and gave a small nod. “That is easier said than done though, isn’t it?”
Riley looked back at her with a light shrug. He nodded. “Yes, I... I suppose it is.” He thought back to Abi but then shook it off. No point dwelling on that. Even after Andie, he’d been pretty adamant that he should stay single but Abi had been special... then -A had taken her and his sobriety away from him. Things with Lucy were less depressing. “You’ll be alright. Just let yourself feel shit and... who knows what’ll happen weeks or months from now, right?”
audrey--henderson:
“Once I am finally wasted, feel free to call one of my brothers. They are the emergency contacts in my phone, but I suspect I will be able to call them myself because you will cut me off before then.” She sighed a bit, shaking her head slightly. “I have almost been in a relationship twice, gotten attached both times only to have my heart ripped out. I am about a quarter of the way to saying the hell with it and becoming a lesbian but after my encounter today I suspect women are bitches too. Maybe I am just not good enough for anyone…” She trailed off, staring at the glass in front of her. She shook her head slightly. “I am sorry. You might be a good listener but that doesn’t mean you wanted to actually know.”
“Yeah, we’ll see, eh?” Riley shrugged, looking back at her. Depending on how much of a state she got in. “Well. Sounds like you’re just not around the right guys. Or.. women.” Riley shook his head. “Nah, I asked, you’re all good.” Not like he hadn’t heard worse in all honesty. This was pretty tame considering. “Look, it hurts, I know. But you can’t let shit like that close you off completely.” He’d almost done that and he knew now it would have been worse in the long run.
manxn-wilsxn:
“It’s a thriller. Kind of like Indiana Jones meets Mission Impossible. It’s a secret government organization that saves the world from end of the world scientific disasters. Really good.”
“Sounds like a winner to me.” Riley chuckled, nodding as he moved to pick the book up, scanning the cover. “Yep. I’ll take it.”
adelaide-crxss:
“Well there’s a difference between seeing and doing. You should try it sometime.”
“Yeah, y’know, I think you’re right.”
audrey--henderson:
Audrey sighed a bit and shrugged. “Not yet, but I am hoping after I have devoured this whole bottle that it might change… I have every intention of forgetting this day.”
“Doesn’t sound too good.” He said, moving to fix up another drink and hand it over the bar to a customer, glancing back at her. “Bartenders are good listeners if you need an ear.”
adelaide-crxss:
“Well, you know what they say - it’s never too late to have a little fun.”
“Yeah, I’ve been seeing that.”
manxn-wilsxn:
“Well, I may b able to recommend a few things. Have you heard of the Sigma Force series by James Rollins?”
“No, what’s that about?”
adelaide-crxss:
“Let me guess - you spent too much time being serious that you got older before your time.”
He chuckled a little. “Yeah, you could... you could say that.”
manxn-wilsxn:
“We did, yeah,” she replied, looking at the shelves for a moment, “Depends on what genre you’re most interested in.”
“Dunno really, I like a good spy novel... or mystery, crime... that sort of thing.”

Audrey was finishing her second glass of scotch when she just sighed. “Just leave the bottle… or two.” She pulled out two fifty pound notes and laid them on the counter. “Just keep them coming and give that person whatever they want too. We can all just drink and be bloody merry…”
Putting the bottle back down on the bar, Riley couldn’t help but shake his head, half in amusement though he felt bad, but he’d seen all sorts working this job. “Alright. Though I have to say, you don’t look very merry right now to me.”
adelaide-crxss:
“You sound like you know that from experience.”
“Yeah, I guess you could say that.”
manxn-wilsxn:
“No, it’s okay,” she said with a little laugh, “I don’t think he’s supposed to be in at all today so you got all the time in the world.”
He chuckled, feeling a bit ridiculous. “Well, alright then. Thanks. I’ll have a browse then. You guys got anything new in?”
manxn-wilsxn:
“Did you want to leave a message for him?”
“God, no.” It slipped out before he could help it and then he made a face at himself. “Uh... I just mean, we don’t exactly... get on. I was making sure he wasn’t here.” Talking himself into a hole here... shit. “Never mind. I’ll be quick.”
