âI donât know about you, but I could desperately use a coffee.â
âI could use about five.â
// @secretsummerstartersâ
âYou, uh... want another?â
âIâm fine I swear. You should see the other guy.â // @secretsummerstartersâ
âIf you say so. Need a drink?â
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âGlad to hear. The author releases a new one every year, so if you ever catch up, you never have to wait too long for the next one in the series. Itâs kind of nice, actually.â
Riley smiled, nodding. âWell, thatâs good... sounds like heâs not short on inspiration.â He chuckled. Riley definitely liked a nice read but he didnât have much of a creative bone in his body so he could admire those that did. âIâm sure Iâll catch up in no time... outside of work, I have no life.â He chuckled, taking out his wallet and fumbling for his card.
audrey--hendersonâ:
Audrey looked down at the glass, taking a deep breath. She hated that she felt this way because she knew it was overdramatic, but at the same time she couldnât exactly stop how terrible she felt. She frowned and gave a small nod. âThat is easier said than done though, isnât it?âÂ
Riley looked back at her with a light shrug. He nodded. âYes, I... I suppose it is.â He thought back to Abi but then shook it off. No point dwelling on that. Even after Andie, heâd been pretty adamant that he should stay single but Abi had been special... then -A had taken her and his sobriety away from him. Things with Lucy were less depressing. âYouâll be alright. Just let yourself feel shit and... who knows whatâll happen weeks or months from now, right?â
audrey--hendersonâ:
âOnce I am finally wasted, feel free to call one of my brothers. They are the emergency contacts in my phone, but I suspect I will be able to call them myself because you will cut me off before then.â She sighed a bit, shaking her head slightly. âI have almost been in a relationship twice, gotten attached both times only to have my heart ripped out. I am about a quarter of the way to saying the hell with it and becoming a lesbian but after my encounter today I suspect women are bitches too. Maybe I am just not good enough for anyoneâŚâ She trailed off, staring at the glass in front of her. She shook her head slightly. âI am sorry. You might be a good listener but that doesnât mean you wanted to actually know.âÂ
âYeah, weâll see, eh?â Riley shrugged, looking back at her. Depending on how much of a state she got in. âWell. Sounds like youâre just not around the right guys. Or.. women.â Riley shook his head. âNah, I asked, youâre all good.â Not like he hadnât heard worse in all honesty. This was pretty tame considering. âLook, it hurts, I know. But you canât let shit like that close you off completely.â Heâd almost done that and he knew now it would have been worse in the long run.
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âItâs a thriller. Kind of like Indiana Jones meets Mission Impossible. Itâs a secret government organization that saves the world from end of the world scientific disasters. Really good.â
âSounds like a winner to me.â Riley chuckled, nodding as he moved to pick the book up, scanning the cover. âYep. Iâll take it.â
adelaide-crxssâ:
âWell thereâs a difference between seeing and doing. You should try it sometime.â
âYeah, yâknow, I think youâre right.â
audrey--hendersonâ:
Audrey sighed a bit and shrugged. âNot yet, but I am hoping after I have devoured this whole bottle that it might change⌠I have every intention of forgetting this day.âÂ
âDoesnât sound too good.â He said, moving to fix up another drink and hand it over the bar to a customer, glancing back at her. âBartenders are good listeners if you need an ear.â
adelaide-crxssâ:
âWell, you know what they say - itâs never too late to have a little fun.â
âYeah, Iâve been seeing that.â
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âWell, I may b able to recommend a few things. Have you heard of the Sigma Force series by James Rollins?â
âNo, whatâs that about?â
adelaide-crxssâ:
âLet me guess - you spent too much time being serious that you got older before your time.â
He chuckled a little. âYeah, you could... you could say that.â
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âWe did, yeah,â she replied, looking at the shelves for a moment, âDepends on what genre youâre most interested in.â
âDunno really, I like a good spy novel... or mystery, crime... that sort of thing.â

Audrey was finishing her second glass of scotch when she just sighed. âJust leave the bottle⌠or two.â She pulled out two fifty pound notes and laid them on the counter. âJust keep them coming and give that person whatever they want too. We can all just drink and be bloody merryâŚâÂ
Putting the bottle back down on the bar, Riley couldnât help but shake his head, half in amusement though he felt bad, but heâd seen all sorts working this job. âAlright. Though I have to say, you donât look very merry right now to me.â
adelaide-crxssâ:
âYou sound like you know that from experience.â
âYeah, I guess you could say that.â
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âNo, itâs okay,â she said with a little laugh, âI donât think heâs supposed to be in at all today so you got all the time in the world.â
He chuckled, feeling a bit ridiculous. âWell, alright then. Thanks. Iâll have a browse then. You guys got anything new in?â
manxn-wilsxnâ:
âDid you want to leave a message for him?â
âGod, no.â It slipped out before he could help it and then he made a face at himself. âUh... I just mean, we donât exactly... get on. I was making sure he wasnât here.â Talking himself into a hole here... shit. âNever mind. Iâll be quick.â
