a glitch in the matrix (anyone + riley)
Riley Maeng was not automatically skeptical of anything. He had been, once, but after joining a secret government initiative and being granted superpowers (superpowers!), he was not about to dismiss something simply because it sounded ridiculous. Still, he felt rather ridiculous staring at the portraits in the front hall. "Isn't this guy dead...?"
"And you will starve again unless you learn the meaning of the law!"
“Hey, everyone’s already hacking into my bank account anyway! It’s just being efficient to use their money for snacks.”
Les Misérables {Sentence Starters}
"One day more 'til revolution. We will nip it in the bud."
"Don't ask me what your sacrifice was for!"
"Everybody raise a glass!"
"And I'm _____! Do not forget my name!"
"Do I stay and do I dare?"
"Look down, look down, don't look them in the eye."
"Every word that he says is a dagger in me."
"And you will starve again unless you learn the meaning of the law!"
"One more day before the storm."
"Here is the thing about equality, everyone's equal when they're dead."
"In my life, there has been no one like him anywhere."
"Will you take your place with me?"
"Look down, look down, you're here until you die."
"To love another person is to see the face of God."
"You've done your duty, nothing more."
"How have you come to grief in a place such as this?"
"I had a dream my life would be so different from this hell I'm living!"
"Have you asked of yourself what's the price you might pay?"
"I used to dream that I would meet a prince."
"There is nowhere I can turn. There is no way to go on!"
"It is time for us all to decide who we are."
"You are wrong, and always have been wrong."
"My heart is stone, and still it trembles."
"Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free."
"Thinks he's quite a lover, but there's not much there."
"It's too soon to say goodbye."
"What's wrong today? You look as if you've seen a ghost."
"Save your breath, and save your tears."
Love me some Java Chip 😍
“So… What exactly do your upgrades do?”
I can manipulate the part of your brain that has to do with fear.
...that would explain why you're so scary.
fudge. did I just say that? please don't kill me. please don't kill me.
“So… What exactly do your upgrades do?”
You say that like you don’t already know. What kind of best friend are you?
I mean, of course I know what it does! I just can't understand how it does it. Do you have nanites actually in your eyes?
“So… What exactly do your upgrades do?”
That is an extremely loaded question. Are you sure you want the answer?
Er, um, yes, of course! An Intel agent should at least understand other agents' abilities, right?
“So… What exactly do your upgrades do?”
It….it lets me…build things…..instantaneously.
Cool! That must be really useful in the science wing, huh?
"So... What exactly do your upgrades do?"
do you ever think about your friends and think “you don’t know me. if you knew me you wouldn’t like me at all.”

“Gizmo, huh? I don’t think I know him. Is he a science agent?” Riley asks absently. The caramel macchiato is starting to get cold. He takes another huge gulp.
But the coffee isn’t what’s distracting him. It’s the code. A code with absolutely no context as to who wrote it and why? This reminds him of a puzzle.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone,” he says, grinning back at her.
“ Really?” Sky eyes widen and grins a cheshire grin. “ Ah, I like you even more now, Riley, yes!” she looks around trying to find a gadget creating by him but fails. “ He is kind of an important young name from science, still it wasn’t really pleasing to meet him.” she raised her eyebrows as in saying ‘not surprisingly’ and takes another sip to her drink, her eyes drift back to the codes and she grins again. “ I’m doing a back up of the back up they told me to do, i’m not really sure if i should be trying to see what does it do, and where it comes from, i need to give them their back up in five minutes.” the girls flips her hair and laughs. “ I don’t know how to feel if they think i need five minutes, they could be testing me though.” her eyes wonder to the eyes of Riley. “ Could even be testing you right now.”
"Testing me? But surely the higher-ups know I'm perfectly perfect in every way," Riley says in pretend innocence. It's hard to keep a straight face, though, even for him.
"Do you have any ideas what the code is for? Like, did NERDI come up with it, or someone else? And if someone else, are we using it or just keeping it on record?"

Riley takes his cup and stands next to her. “I know! I’ve only got one friend in the field division, and that’s because we knew each other before we were recruited.”
He looks over the code Sky’s been working on, partly out of interest, partly to give her another opening to talk so the conversation doesn’t fade out.
She smiles at Riley and sighs. “ That’s great, Riley, i don’t really have friends outside of Intel, but that should come as not surprise.” she laughed softly. “ Still, i met the Gizmo today, and well, you need to be careful around him.” she raised her eyebrows and took another zip of the drink.
Skyler follows his gaze and a small smile tugs on her lips. “ Watching the code? Superiors asked me to copy it, they didn’t really told me what is it from, they said they needed a back up, just gave me the page to take it, no name of the place or person who made it and….” she bites her tongue before she can say more, she always says more that she needs to. “ Actually, i’m not sure if you should be looking at it, but go ahead.”
“Gizmo, huh? I don’t think I know him. Is he a science agent?” Riley asks absently. The caramel macchiato is starting to get cold. He takes another huge gulp.

….That was an accident. I promise.
I believe you... are you okay?

Riley has worked with Seph for… a while now, but he’s never exactly gotten used to her. Though it’d probably be more accurate to say he’s never gotten used to her upgrades. As cool as Seph is, it still creeps him out to think she might be hearing his thoughts.
Still, that doesn’t stop him from giving her the double caramel mocha (complete with four shots of espresso). He signs COFFEE and thinks to himself that he’s glad the sign is so simple and easy to remember, and oh shoot did he really forget how to sign “do you like it”?
Riley frowns and thinks the last part really loud.
Technically she wasn’t supposed to be hacking to get the information she needed, but Sephora had given up the usual channels and knew that she needed to get the information before her deadline. And if she did the work then they never checked on how, so in the end it really didn’t matter. However as she worked she could sense someone coming down the hall toward her work space, recognizing that it was Riley a few steps before he walked in.
However as he shouted his thoughts she couldn’t help but wince.
“Ow!” she explained, blinking a few times to try and rebalance her brain, “how many times do I have to tell people that they do not need to shout their thoughts at me. it hurts and it’s offensive.”
Fudge! He'd done it again.
"Sorry," he said automatically, then remembered and signed an apology instead. He hoped the coffee made up for it, at least a little -- he rather liked working in the Intel division, and if Seph did end up as head he didn't want her transferring him somewhere else.

riley-maeng:
Riley walks into the Intel wing with four drinks balanced on a cupholder. One’s for himself (caramel macchiato, venti, hot). The second is a plain black coffee. It’s for Sephora, because it just seems rude to go to Starbucks without getting Seph something. It’s too bad she’s out now, though. The drink will probably get cold.
The last two drinks are for Sky.
“I’ve got a Passion Tea Lemonade, sweetened, and a Captain Crunch frappuccino here,” Riley calls out.
Skyler is going around between to documents, being fast to copy the code rapidly, so that she has a back up of a back up if the document ever goes missing, or if the code is classified, in a way she can’t no longer read about it. Out of the corner of her eye she sees Riley with four drinks and inmeditially feels guilty since she’s taking two. because of her quick metabolism she needs to eat regularly, needing more energy, she would be pokemon Snorlax clone if it wasn’t because of it. She speeds up and stands next to him taking her two drinks and smiling at him. “ Yum!, Have i ever told you you’re my favorite co-worker, Riley? Because you ar, heavens even could be my favorite person in the initiative.” she puts the drinks on her table and starts sipping on the Passion Tea Lemonade and starts shaking her head. “ I just don’t get the other divisions, we Intel people get each other, but i don’t really know how someone can befriend people from the other ones, i know we’re supposed to work together, but becoming friends it’s on another whole level.”
Riley takes his cup and stands next to her. "I know! I've only got one friend in the field division, and that's because we knew each other before we were recruited."
