“the stylists want to dye my hair, but i’m so scared. i don’t think i want them to...” ripley admitted, eyes wide with panic. “i feel like orange has become my signature; i like how i look with it! and remember that stupid bowl cut they gave me? no matter how long passes, i still am traumatized by that...”

“i need help,” ripley said, rubbing her eyes and pushing hair back out of her face in utter exhaustion. “i’m trying to practice the i can’t stop me choreography for our special stage next week, but i keep fucking up. my feet are wrong or my hips or too tight or... i don’t know... can you watch me run it through and help me fix it? it’s one of our fans’ favorite songs-- i don’t want to make a mess of it...” @rveunhye​ @rvyeseo​ @rvchiharu @rvsoleil​

“I don’t know about winning, but… hopefully I can get closer to everyone’s level, at least. That’d be a pretty big win, I think,” Eli said. As much as they wanted to believe they could top everyone with vocals alone, it wasn’t really realistic.

“true-- think of all you’re going to learn!” ripley replied excitedly. “and how much of a powerhouse you’re going to be when it’s done! liberty isn’t going to know what to do with you.”

“i noticed it in better too,” jinjoo admitted sheepishly. “i’m sorry, but it doesn’t suit you at all, and everyone can tell you’re not happy either, so what’s the point?”’

“cater to our demographic of children and pedophiles?” she replied with a clueless shrug. “i try my best to make it work, though. not much i can do to fix things.”

“well, then, maybe you don’t ask permission,” jina countered. “i don’t know your position, but you seem important to your group and the company. and it’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission…”

“last time i forgot to ask for permission, i got the worst bowl cut i’ve ever seen,” ripley pointed out with a tiny smile. “and that was just for cutting my hair without permission in the first place. i’m kind of scared of what they’d do beyond that.”

“i think i noticed it the most recently, now that you guys are trying to be more mature. the cute rapping really doesn’t suit it,” jinjoo admitted sheepishly

“oh, god, all of us hate more and more for a lot of reasons, but that’s the big one for me. i thought i could have been so cool, but it hurts instead.”

“well… i don’t know how much leeway you have, but it doesn’t hurt to be vocal that that’s what you’re feeling, if you can?” jina offered. “be clear and upfront. it cuts down on all the smoke and mirrors.”

“yeah...” she began, sighing. “it’s hard to know what i can and can’t say, and i’m always toeing the line but..... this is important. it should be a hill i want to die on,” she agreed.

“yeah, that does suck– what a waste of your potential,” jinjoo agreed sympathetically. “i have noticed that in your guys’ songs, not gonna lie. it didn’t used to be so obvious, either…”

“it depends on the member,” ripley admitted. “like angie and yeseo have gotten to use their real voices more in recent times. but like..... i don’t think i’ve rapped in my real voice since cheer up. not really, anyway.”

“that is a haunting idea, but it’s not your fault,” jina assured her softly. “good for spotlight for putting the kibosh on that.”

“i know, but i still feel responsible. i don’t want people to look at me, and it to be some sort of a trigger, you know? but yeah....that’s probably one of the few good things spotlight’s done..”

“Fair enough, your group could probably do it blindfolded and backwards if you really wanted to,” Eli said.They paused a moment, thinking over how they had practically begged to be the center for the choreography. “I guess I’m practicing extra on my own, then. Well… extra, extra.”

“i mean, i probably could, but i’m not happy about it,” she replied with a laugh. “for a competition show? i’d recommend that. however much they make you practice, allocate time in your off hours to working on your own. the trainees who win are ones who do that. do you remember season one? i know chase only got second, but there was so much footage of her sneaking out at night to practice.”

“you know, i’ve waited years for spotlight to debut another boy group with me in it, but i’m kind of dreading it now,” eunsung admitted. “creed’s schedules are so crammed full of stuff, and i’ve seen how busy sola’s gotten. i don’t think i can handle that.”

“oh god-- oppa, you’re about to have the venus treatment done double!” ripley exclaimed with a sympathetic smile. “i’ll pray for you.”

“how long do i need to be an idol for before i can get a full sleeve tattoo,” xifeng mused aloud. “like, i don’t even know if i want one yet. but i just want to know…”

“i’ve always wanted tattoos. maybe now that venus is heading away from our candy pop days, i might be able to get a few.... burnout’s a lot less cutesy, though-- i bet you could get away with it!”

[rvjina]

“some days i really regret having a business email,” jina admitted with a long-suffering sigh. “i just got three brand deal offers today, and one of them was for one of those stupid teas. i work for an athletics company– you really think i’m going to give the ok for one of those teas? it’s madness.”

“i saw someone try to use my picture for one of those ads, but spotlight got it taken down so fast,” ripley admitted. “i just worry sometimes. like how many people who are fans of me saw that and got duped because they wanted to look like me?”

[rveunyeol]

“Okay, I have never practiced dancing so long in my entire life,” Eli admitted. They danced every now and again, but it was for fun and not anything serious. Idol Project prep was a whole different beast. “I’m going to get used to it, I have to–but seriously, I don’t know how y’all keep it up. Tell me your secrets.”

“well, i mean.... after releasing like four big comebacks a year for five years, you kind of get good at picking up choreography,” ripley answered with a sympathetic smile. “focus on repetition, though. go over it as many times as you can. and if there’s any parts in the choreo where you’re center, put extra emphasis on making sure you look right during those parts.”

“take it from someone in, historically, one of the most overworked girl groups ever-- you’re kind of fucked.”

“idol project groups are such a scam,” liyang whined. “i train for almost ten years, and get baseline success when i debut, but these people go on a show for two months and explode to the moon? that’s not fair at all.”

[rvroxie]

“i mean, i can’t really talk because i’m from spotlight, and debuting in spotlight has kind of the same odds but..... it’s a huge opportunity, huh,” ripley agreed while trying to put a positive spin on it.

“don’t most of you have to change your voices? it seems kind of unfair.” jinjoo admitted. “matika puts on a fake voice, but she likes it that way– from the sounds of it, it wasn’t a conscious decision for you guys…”

“yeah,” ripley admitted. “i don’t have to fake my voice when i sing, but they make me when i rap. which sucks, because rina unnie’s voice is naturally like that so she sounds good when she raps because its natural, but i sound kind of cringe and forced... which sucks, because...i’m no sookie, but i think i have potential...”
