House intruders (don’t call the police)
The summer's flow'r is to the summer sweet, Though to itself it only live and die' But if that flow'r with base infection meet, The basest weed outbraves his dignity: For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds; Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.

“Whaaaattt!? You haven’t even told him! Riley, you must!!” Makoto tugged on the other woman’s arm firmly. It was a lot easier to say as much from outside the situation. When it came to her own circumstances however, the brunette simply laughed - Riley had no idea, and it was probably best to keep it that way. It wasn’t exactly a heartwarming tale.
The fortune-teller squinted at Riley and continued to mumble. It sounded as though she were speaking more to herself than to either of them, scribbling something else down and then laying one hand out for payment which Makoto swiftly produced.
“Too short, hmhm, should be tall to nourish your face.” The fortune teller clicked her tongue as if telling the yakuza off for her height. “Strong mouth. Good for speaking, you will be reputable if you speak properly. Influential. But- you will go where you are pushed. You are generous with your time and money, but more money goes out than in - you must be careful not to give too much to your friends or spouse, else they will drain you dry!! Hmhm.”
She reached out to press on Riley’s ears, twisting and tugging them with weathered hands.
“You arouse jealousy in others. How was your childhood? Difficult, huh? Never quite fit in. Talented girl, yes, but without pressure, talents always hidden - you bloom in adversity, girl, yes. Hmhm, yes. Loyal, yes, should live a long and productive life, but… you know, small ears not good for long life. Must take care.”
Riley jumped in her seat at such a notion, let alone from her friend. “No!! If I do he’ll probably think I’m joking!” Or the very concept of it all would only grow more complicated, with every facet between her and this man - it couldn’t be more complicated than complicated could get. As much as she wanted to express that side of herself that decided to crop up out of the blue.
Lost in the clutches of the older woman she just grunted, ready to tell Makoto she had no need to pay - but welp. She was here now: pinched, poked, pulled and shifted. Every word that feel from the reader’s lips may as well be the turn of every page of her life. Must be tall to nourish my face what does that even mean..
Riley wore her life on her sleeve, not only just her heart that bled from time to time. She could not deny how much she let it overflow, and in that - it drained her despite her good intentions. Perhaps it was something for her to consider, should she wish to not risk herself further from depletion. Not like she was just a civilian anymore. Jealousy in others? That was going to be stuck in her mind.
Crinkling her nose she bowed her head to the woman and turned to Makoto, as though offering her a turn were that her choice. “I’m paying for yours. Curious what sort of mysteries lie there, Makoto-chan.” She gave a gentle tap to her friends nose with a laugh. “You ever confess feelings to anyone? I’m so out of the loop these past couple years I don’t even know where to start, eugh.”
mewgagotoku:
Head down, Majima allowed himself to be led compliantly from the building, the flashing of red lights illuminating the deep hollows in gaunt cheeks.
He heard Riley’s voice before he saw her, deliberately not meeting her eye as he was led nearer the waiting police van.
“Stay outta this, O’Malley,” he growled lowly, not fighting the five men that the police had seen fit to surround him with. Somebody had to take the fall, and on this occasion, he was the best and only option. It probably wouldn’t make sense to anybody else, even inside the Tojo. He was ready for this - the Mad Dog had all but planned it.
“The boys’re just doin’ their job, ain’tcha lads?”
His escorts bristled suspiciously in response to the sallow smile on his face, exchanging a meaningful look between the five of them while the notorious patriarch chuckled darkly.
Now, Riley had her moments - she wasn’t entirely a dumbass and jumped at every instance to cause further trouble than it was worth. But at this time her mind was racing trying to think as to why Majima got caught up in such a fiasco, let alone going along with the feds.
She had to look past what she was familiar with - and also had to try and get in his head. The expression he gave told her something was up, and perhaps her sudden plot she had to weasel the man out of this if only for an explanation. He had no reason to let her in on all his plans, or whatever else he may get himself caught up in. But she sure as hell had a habit of wiggling her way into them somehow.
If she wanted to do anything about it, what could she do?
“Of course. Doing their job as men of the law.” The calculating look on her face shifted, pulling back and placing her hand on her cheek. She looked like she just might cry, glancing over at one of the officers.
“I just worry so much. Every day, every turn, something bad might have happened to my dearest. I don’t know what I’d do...and seeing you like this...” Sniff, sniff.
Riley. Riley no. Why did you think this was a good idea.

mewgagotoku:
“Trust me, they don’t. They ain’t even gunne be bloomin’ on my tomb.” He had always expected to die young, but now it seemed as though he was going to outlive anybody who had the gall to remember him - a funny kind of fate which tickled him in some inscrutable fashion.
“Stop tryna gimme your shit, O’Malley, I don’t wannit.” He laughed, waving a hand between them. “‘Sides, the future’s Blu-Ray. I’m tellin’ ya, get stocks in it.” Though he was interested to see that their tastes aligned in some fashion. “My TV’s gunna be great, don’t you knock it - gonna take up a whole damn wall, it’ll be beautiful.”
He could see it in his mind’s eye - which was more than he could say about the rest of his future, or even tomorrow. Kamurocho Hills was going to be the thing that this town never knew it needed, and he would be the king. Just had to get a couple of false coronations out of the way first.
Riley’s face fell flat, having not picked up on things properly it seemed. She snorted, moving over and reaching to bap him on the head with one of the DVDs. “Shoosh! I’m not giving them to you, dummy! Pfff- blueray.” Setting them on the counter she poked at him playfully. “Talkin’ like you had it already. My bad. You’re literally going to live in a theater by the sounds of it.” The very thought brought her amusement, imagining Majima just splayed on a couch on his own, admiring the high definition classic horror. Geez. “Until then, you’re welcome to join me in a horror fest of films.” She would not however press him, despite her words, but learning this of course she couldn’t help in offering. As much as she detested most work, much like her at times, he had his own things to take care of. Before anything else could be said, her arms wrapped around his torso in a firm hug.
“...thank you, by the way. For all of this. I appreciate it...a lot.”
mewgagotoku:
Makoto nodded. She remembered only too well opening her eyes for the first time in what felt like years, to find herself in an unfamiliar place with stark white walls and smiling faces. She had been running for so long that it had been incredibly difficult to accept the kindness of the clinic staff, but ultimately she had, and now it was her turn to do the same for somebody else - as many times as she possibly could. So many young people were still trapped in a darkness like her own, and so many of them just needed that one hand to reach for and grasp tight.
“I’m glad.” She smiled. “I’d appreciate anything you can offer, really. I’ve been doing this for a while now, but sometimes it feels like I’m still finding my feet. I just… there are so many stories going on all around us, and not all of them are happy ones. i want to do what I can to try and help, even if it’s just in a tiny way. Small steps lead to big leaps.”
“No matter the situation, most if not all deserve a decent epilogue. Hopefully, a happy one.” Long since finishing up her drink, she’d stared off in no particular direction, mingling with the thoughts often times caught in her mind.
It was always there in the back of her mind, a reminder of what she’d gone through and continue to live through, and the potential shifts that may or may not come. Much like Makoto, she wanted to do all she could for herself - hell, maybe not even herself, but for others. Negatives aside for this career, it opened up other things in her artillery, and be damned if she wasn’t going to use it for some good.
“I’m really glad I met you today, Makoto. If that’s not too bold to say so suddenly. I will do my best to help bring more of those smiles to people these days. I always feel like there could be more.”
Diamonds Amidst Dust
hachidorinoko:
Blue-lenses eyes widened in surprise as Tenji took in the contents of the neatly-scripted letter. He had to read it twice before he really understood what it was saying, and even then it didn’t exactly sink in. May be of interest. What did that mean? Shadow the crew?? Finally, his excitement was too much.
“Y-you YOU KNOW HIM!!?!?” Looking sharply up at Riley, the host’s jaw dropped open like a wagon gate. All pretence went out the window. This was some truly epic payback for all his teasing about Mana. “Wh- is this for real!?!? Kamen Rider, seriously!? Oh my godddd! Whaaaaaatttt?? Where the heck have you been working!? Oh my god!”
The expression on her face was one of being startled, mixed with the joy of it hopefully clicking in his mind. A weird little quirky grin and a mild surprise in her eyes. She lifted her hand up between them, snickering near her drink and almost spilling it. “I don’t know him personally. But I do work in mysterious ways, and it will take much to learn my secrets, Tenji-kun. Some stay under lock and key. He is an interesting fellow to speak with, I will say.”
Reaching out she snatched a bit of the chicken dish to nibble on, a look of pride on her face as she swirled her drink, amused at her dear friend. “I loved Kamen Rider since I was a kid, and I remembered something in one of our passing conversations. Work provided me the chance to rub elbows with some and- well, who’s to say I can’t share in that geeky merriment, hm?” Riley rested her head on her hand, laughing softly. “Not going to lie, I wasn’t expecting to break you because of it.” Yes she was. That was an absolutely lie, and she was LIVING for this.
mewgagotoku:
Rather than elucidate on the ins and outs of pig guts, Majima just smirked up at Santa. “Guess ya’ll find out wontcha?” One last teasing tug at the crimson costume, and Majima finally got to his feet, checking the time idly. “Aite, find us someplace an’ I’ll see ya tonight.” Horumon wasn’t exactly his first choice of meal either, but the big man deserved to have it his own way once in a while.
Finding their eventual destination with little trouble, the one-eyed man ducked beneath the smoke curtain and found their table, clicking his tongue in greeting. As soon as the rich smell of barbecue hit his nostrils, he couldn’t say he regretted choosing this as their dinner of choice, the small restaurant filled with barrel-shaped tables each holding a sunken bucket of hot coals for grilling up meat.
“Mm, whatcha lookin’ so pleased about, huh?” He supposed it was Christmas after all, or close enough. She could be forgiven in the spirit of the season. “Sae- Sandypants not here yet? Figures, he’s only ever on time one day of the year, don’t let him forget it.”
Pleased as punch, one might add. She’s never tell why, however.
Riley, already settled in her spot sans crimson jacket, snickering at Majima’s comment. She waved her hand and sat up. “Oh don’t worry. Means we get a head start on fillin’ our bellies.” That and a moment before the real festivities began; Riley dug through her things and held out a small box towards him once he settled in. “Merry Christmas, Majima-san. One of three gifts.” It was a simple silvery box, about the length of a watch gift box tied up in a deep navy ribbon. Upon further inspection, laden among equally deep toned velvet was a silver whetstone keychain, emblazened with blossoms along it as well as an inscription: Your fire light led me through the dark when I least expected it - thank you.
“Already buried you in other things so - I thought you could use something a little more useful.” Of course..that didn’t stop her from attaching a little felt fox to it, however. Hah!
Before the air could get any more palpable, a large hand planted itself atop their heads, as though out of thin air. It stirred a silly noise from Riley. “Op- ahah- and there’s number two!” Despite not being ol sandypants, Saejima grinned, taking the spot on the opposite side of Majima. “Little bird told me some familiar faces visited Santa today mn? To wonder what ya’ll wished for.” Riley just made a face. “Tch - if I told you, you’d just laugh.”
Happy birthday to a wonderful gremlin with a heart of gold and a mind that’s probably lost most marbles. ilu Majima
mewgagotoku:
“What if I wanna look like a dictator??” Depending on who she asked, there were a fair few people who might suggest that the one-eyed man was well on his way, if that was his aim. “Look here, I dunno what your game is, but I wasn’t born yesterday, O’Malley. I can hear it in ya voice, ya tryna put the fleece on me, an’ I ain’t havin’ it.” It seemed a lifetime ago that he had sat and let her draw him for the first time, but he knew better now - or thought he did.
“Back when I was a pretty young thing, a gal got me one o’ them choco-roulette things for Valentines.” He pulled the ribbon loose to peek inside the box at the chocolates Riley had prepared. “I think it was sposta screw me over, but even the hot one wasn’t bad. People think they’re so clever, don’t they…”
Selecting one of the truffles, he popped it in his mouth and chewed thoughtfully, screwing up his face and then raising an eyebrow.
“… Not bad, what’s in ‘em?”
The furrowed brow and crossed arms was enough to tell her frustration in trying to persuade the Patriarch, puffing her cheeks yet again. Fine. One of these days she’ll get him to let her do it. Somehow. As much as she didn’t WANT to paint him as a dictator sorts - he really wasn’t too far from it. She shot daggers at any of the men still lingering about and trying to ease drop. “Ohhh...I think I remember those things. Kinda thought they were a fun gag to be honest. Spicy chocolate is actually pretty good.” Riley released a breath through her nose, looking off in no particular direction with a sly look on her face. “Not as clever as you it seems...” Majima had finally opened the box and had a taste of her handiwork. She had no expectation for them to be perfect, but good enough quality would satisfy her. Tapping her two index fingers she swayed a little in thought. Why was she getting so goddamn bashful?? “A few different flavors, actually. Ah...some are matcha, Some are liquer mixed with a bit of Hokkaido cream. Uuhhh...oh! Others are plum wine!” Riley gave a happy clap. Each truffle had a simple and elegant design, some a little shaky but still with it’s own charm. One truffle in particular held a particular theme - a small little dogs head on it, eye patch and all, holding a little knife in it’s mouth. “I hope they taste okay...partly why I’ve been kinda a layabout today more than normal.”
What Tarot Card Are You?
Owl Eyes O Malley - The Devil
Restriction is not so terrible a thing as you think it is. One must not always be shackled to be prudent. You could use a set of handcuffs in your life, my love. Shall I forge them for you? We could be tied together, you and I. Maybe then you would not want for so many things. Maybe if you were drip fed what you wanted, you would only focus on the next drip, instead of the wide world of things there are to want. You consume what you love, you terrify the things you want. You have chewed your way through your life and you are still hungry. The old woman holds out a key. The iron around your wrist is so very heavy.
