Sebastian was unequivocally flirtatious in his demeanor when interacting with MC. All the surreptitious stares, blushing of cheeks, electric sensations caused by the secretly deliberate brush of his fingertips against hers, and countless hours spent alone in her presence, proved his growing affections. MC was a breath of fresh air, and Sebastian relished the renewed vibrancy and zeal she’d restored to his life. Unfortunately, these feelings of immense joy were often juxtaposed by those of nagging guilt, knowing Anne still endured excruciating bouts of pain from the nefarious curse inflicted upon her. Because of this, Sebastian buried the romantic feelings too special and profound to nurture while his sisters life hung in the balance. Unbeknownst to him, MC had done the same, feeling it might be selfish to share her hearts desires during such a critical time. She’d fallen for him, and his quest to save his twin became equally as important to her. Sebastian believed without a doubt he'd cure Anne, enabling him to turn the full attention of his heart towards MC.
As he tirelessly devoted the past year to saving Anne, ridding her of the dark curse became so much more than only gaining his twin back (which already meant the world.) He could finally prove to Solomon he was deserving of the respect he never received, perhaps even putting a stop to the emotional abuse and neglect he'd endured. He hated how his uncle spited him for the similarities akin to his beloved father. These similarities were his strengths, attributes he was proud to have inherited and held in high esteem- they were not to not be condemned. Additionally, his pursuit into the dark arts would be proven to be a worthwhile venture. With Anne healthy and back at Hogwarts, the Sallow family would be reunited under the roof of the hallowed school they’d once taught at. The spirit of Sebastian's parents burned forever brightly in his heart, and he knew they’d have fought tirelessly for their daughter. Lastly, and what he'd thought about countless times, was how he'd be free to share the depth of his affections for MC, finally able to love her freely with his heart intact once more.
After their victory in the Crossed Wands tournament, they continue to practice their shared love of dueling and mischief-making by taking out dark wizards and the likes throughout the Scottish Highlands. Not without Ominis's absolute horror and admonishment of their foolish behavior, of course. If MC spots lacewing flies before they head into a fight, she'll make special notice of them to Sebastian, telling him they're a "good omen." She remembers clearly the time he pointed them out on their first jaunt into Hogsmeade. She'll react excitedly, with small giddy cheer upon finding them, which Sebastian finds adorable. He doesn't require any extra luck when they're fighting, however. By her side, he feels unstoppable.
For this next part, Mr.Moon occupies Hagrid's hut and grows the enormous pumpkins for the hallowe'en feast
The Hallowe'en Feast went off surprisingly without a hitch that year, despite having an absolute oaf of a headmaster. Unless you count the fact Duncan Hobhouse showed up to the Great Hall covered in and reeking of spoiled pumpkin guts. Apparently he had been at it again with Ominis, who was upset after overhearing him rudely gossiping about his very best friends. (Duncan will essentially call you a moonmind if you ride the graphorn in front of him.) Usually one to stay on the sidelines unless necessary, Ominis proposed a proper duel to settle the matter. At Duncan’s refusal and further name calling, Ominis unleashed a spell that catapulted the Ravenclaw boy through the air and straight into an enormously rotting pumpkin, splitting it open upon impact.
The cacophony coming from outside the rather intoxicated ground keepers door only barely stirred him enough to investigate. With spiked pumpkin juice in hand, Mr. Moon stumbled out onto the scene to find a shrieking figure flailing about his pumpkin patch. In his drunken stupor, surrounded by the darkness of night, he mistook Hobhouse as a demiguise, sending him fleeing for his life in the opposite direction. A rather pleased Ominis stalked off back to the castle, ready to enjoy the splendorous feast alongside his two best friends. Duncan, who was adamant upon making the feast in time, showed up still partially covered in pumpkin sinew. According to Ominis, he now “smelled like a coward too."
The arrival of the Christmas season brought an abundance of family owls swooping into the Great Hall, dropping off gifts until each table was heavy laden with candies, jams and jellies, trinkets and new winter apparel. MC noticed nothing ever came for Sebastian or Ominis. Always eager to take care of her boys, MC made sure they still felt cherished during the festive holiday. She had even picked out special presents for Sebastian.
MC purchased him a pair of brand-new, leather dueling gloves, complete with brass plating on the knuckles, and a symbols of crossed wands on the backs. With emerald green thread, she stitched on his initials, putting her personal touch on them. The gloves were an ode to the connection they made while dueling in her first DADA class.
It was also around this time that Sebastian had been banished from his own twin and family home by Solomon. Aware he was going to reach out to Anne using the Sallow family crest, MC added a second gift for the luck he'd need evading his Uncle, lest he find out Sebastian's plans. And so, carefully tucked into the palm of his new dueling gloves, MC laid a vial of felix felicis potion. How did she obtain it? Winning it in Professor Sharps class, of course. Sebastian's absence that period only worked in her favor to later surprise him with it.
1. If you headcanon that MC's parents have passed, or any other familial circumstance that prevents her boys from visiting, they will remain at Hogwarts during the Christmas break, having sleepovers in the now empty Slytherin dorm. (They definitely don't follow all the proper etiquette of the era, and are no stranger to breaking the rules. Therefore, sleepovers are a thing.)
2. If you headcanon that MC's parents are alive, she will insist they visit her home for the break. Her parents give the boys gifts based off what they'd read in their daughters letters. A tactile pillow and blanket was given to Ominis, as he "often haphazardly falls asleep on the cold, school floors.” While a silver broom compass was given to Sebastian, for being "the best guide of Hogwarts and the villages that lie beyond." They felt a true sense of peace and comfort embraced by her family.
The boy has a sweet tooth. Throughout the festive season, Sebastian's hoard of candy hidden by his bedside grew exponentially. He outright refused to share with anyone, but couldn't deny his soft spot for MC. He'd demonstrate his adoration by discreetly slipping her candy in class, acting in an adorable manner as if it was such a big gesture to do so. He delights in watching MC enjoy the little gifts he offers no one else.
Spring, and the aftermath of Solomon’s death. MC is deemed the “Hero of Hogwarts."
Sebastian finds healing in taking care of the rescued beasts MC keeps in her vivariums; specifically the thestrals. Caring for the wise creatures brought him much needed solace in the face of his great misfortune. MC describes the ability to see thestrals as "a gift of peace and knowledge" for those who had witnessed death, and was more than happy to let Sebastian spend all the time he needed in her vivariums finding it.
MC was always quite daring in her fashion choices. She could adhere to the rules of modest dress for the time, while also possessing the ability to appear brazen and enticing. The first weekend she came out into the courtyard dressed for spring, Sebastian felt the sensation of hot knives piercing through his chest. It wasn’t because of her obvious beauty, but instead the lascivious grins other boys cast her way because of it. After she'd become "The Hero of Hogwarts,” it was as if they'd all collectively realized what Sebastian had known all along. She was a rarity, practically an angel who graced them with her presence; she was irresistible. The fact remained that MC still wasn’t romantically his. Using the trip jinx to quell his anger seemed rather juvenile now, as nothing could stop his mind from running rampant with fantasies of claiming her in front of the whole school, fantasies of claiming her everywhere. Additionally, he became weary of bickering with Ominis who urged him to confess his feelings already. He didn’t know how to admit he’d been falling madly in love with her since the day they met, knowing she now carried the weight of his burdens and secrets, along with those of ancient magic on her shoulders. She was his chosen soulmate, and he refused to mess that up.
Sebastian had foolishly thrown them into the face of danger before, during times he permitted his anger to take precedent over any other emotion. After allowing his feelings for MC to resurface comes the desire to protect her a fervently as he would his own twin.
In the weeks following the death of Sebastian's uncle, she saw him gradually return back to his typical self. However it wasn't without the new weight of heartbreak, grief, and motivation to spend every day making up for what he'd done. Sebastian had confided in MC about everything up until he’d gone to the Feldcroft catacombs alone, keeping her in the dark when it came time to finally undo the curse. There was no reason for this, as MC had been apart of his journey to cure Anne all year. It was almost as if the dark relic had a mind of its own, with a goal to pull Sebastian away from his best friends in order to do its bidding. While she couldn't explain the mechanics with the relic now destroyed, she felt in her gut that it had a deep effect on his cognizance and sanity during their fight against Solomon in the catacombs. MC wondered if he would have ever killed his uncle had he not obtained the relic.
Despite having one of the most difficult and tragic 5th years out of any Hogwarts student, and the worst detention record Sebastian still manages to achieve academic excellence, scoring O's on his O.W.L.s in every subject except astronomy and herbology.
He returns to Feldcroft with Ominis, hoping to tie up loose ends and teach his neighbors how to defend themselves against any remaining loyalists of Ranrok. The humble cottage seemed to draw in every drop of summer’s unforgiving humidity, making the already difficult situation of revisiting the place he’d lost his dear twin and Solomon even more unbearable. He further comes to terms with what he's done by taking a life, paying tribute at his Uncle’s grave. His heart aches more than ever for Anne, and the fact Ominis is the only one she’ll write to breaks him. All he hears from Ominis is that “she’s safe,” and nothing more, which often sparks bickering between the two. The only solace which soothes his aching heart is knowing in a few days time he’ll be on the train, off to reunite with the love of his life for the remainder of summer. He desperately needs MC by his side to endure this new reality, as much as she needs him.
