“The catering around here is getting worse and worse. What kind of sandwich is this? I can barely bite into it,” she said as she tossed it back on the counter. Then she turned to Riley. “Let’s go out to eat. I’m sure they’ll miss me around here, but I think they’ll be fine.”

“You mean you can’t fit your mouth around that? I’ve heard you say that before,” Riley’s grin was crooked, but he offered his hand to Aliyah anyway, “There’s this really good Thai place down the street. We can take it back to my place, or yours.”

“Trust me, you didn’t miss a thing. —No one to be jealous of, my dear,” she replies with arched brows, downing her drink without a second’s hesitation before peering over at Riley. “I ended up escaping the gala solo, only to party the rest of the night away on someone’s table at Marquee which, admittedly, was nowhere near as exciting as if you were there. —So, which family member do I need to beat up?”

“Seriously? Solo? Who are you and what have you done with Selene Dubois?” Riley grinned a little more, refilling her drink then refilling his own as well. There was nothing better than getting drunk in his apartment, “You can blame dear old dad, y’know. Kyle dragged me into a meeting with him. Because, y’know, ten years of him kicking our asses just isn’t enough.”

“I mean, honestly? I think it’s pretty shite, but I think everything is pretty shite. So make of that what you will.”

“The fuck is shite? Do you mean shit? Say it normally. Shite just sounds...fucking weird. Also, yeah dude. You have a weird sex life.”

“I mean...I would expect that.” Riley picked up his coffee, sipping it for a few moments before he huffed at Thea, “Social workers are completely useless. I had one as a kid, y’know, and all they did was drag us back to foster homes.”

“I never thought I’d be this disappointed to have missed that party the other night.” Riley downed his shot, putting a finger up to show he wasn’t done just yet, “I wanna hear all about it. And I wanna know who took you home so I can beat them up. It’s not my fault I wasn’t there to pick you up – family sucks sometimes.”

Or they had been, now she suddenly wasn’t entirely sure. “Look, just ignore me alright? It’s stupid.”

“You don’t know? Are you scared or something? I’m not entirely sure what the fuck else to say, you know. I know I’m way out of your league, but if I have to do some stupid innuendo about how I’m interested in you one more time, I’m gonna start batting on the other side of the plate.”

Giovana smiled before laughing a little. “You know I think you’re cute.” She teased back, before nudging him slightly with her elbow. The groan that left her lips when he asked about her trip wasn’t meant to be as loud as it had been. “As good as it could have been I suppose.” She scrunched her nose before shrugging, it hadn’t been the best, far from it in all honesty. “How have you been? Staying out of trouble?” Gi asked, trying to pull away from her own issues.

“Me? Nah, I’m always in trouble. You know that. Anyway, what do you mean as good as it could have been? Was there some family drama? I love that. Tell me more.” He picked up his coffee, moving to hold the door open as they left.

Jesus, Riles.” Flipping through her Hulu options, she paused on some obscure horror film and clicked the button. “Guess we’ll just have to wait for the good parts to see if I come askin’.” Dark hues widened ever so slightly at the man’s innuendo. “Never asked you to beg. And that’s… good to know.”

“What? That’s what I have Kyle for. He does the Hulk smash thing, I just look pretty.” He huffed out a laugh, straightening back up instead, “That’s it? Good to know? What are we doing, Shay?”

The two weeks she’d been away had taken it’s toll more than it had done been a relaxing time seeing her family. So standing in the line at her favourite coffee shop in New York was welcoming, and as the smell of coffee surrounded her a smile eventually danced through her features. Ordering her usual, a simple Mocha with an extra shot of chocolate topped with irish cream, she turned and looked at the person to her right in the queue. “And whatever this lovely human fancies.”

Riley rose an eyebrow, trying not to laugh, “Wow. You think I’m cute, huh? Well, you’re cute, too,” he teased, shrugging his shoulders. “Anyway, how was your trip or whatever?”

“You can stand there looking as pretty as you want to,” he noted roughly from beneath the hood of his own car. There’d be hell to pay for the day he ever let anyone else touch it, and the garage he all too often paid to let him take up a hoist never seemed to complain much. “Or you can hand me that ratchet head sitting right in front of your face. I’m sure whatever is that important can wait two more seconds since you don’t seem wholly versed in the art of interruption.” If anything, Mathias might have preferred it had they said something, rather than simply staring.

“I know I’m pretty. But you don’t have to tell me every day, you know. It won’t win me over.” Riley picked up the thing that Mathias was requesting, setting down just out of the mechanic’s reach, “You’re welcome. What’s your problem today, Matty?”

“Riley Henderson? Teary eyed? I don’t believe it for a second. Nah, I think yours would be a cheetah. Fast, hard to catch…” Beautiful and a little dangerous. “Maybe it’s both. Put on a scary movie and let’s find out.” Flirtation between them had always been a sort of second nature, rarely with thought put into it as she normally spent her time buzzed. Yet now, with sobriety overtaking all thought, she realized her words held a semblance of gravity. “Or maybe I’ll let you take off mine.”

“I mean...listen, it’s difficult to explain.” Riley only smirked, looking at Shay again, “Wow, babe. You think I’m playing hard to get? All you gotta do is ask.” He leaned towards her, letting their shoulders rest against each other, “Really? What, you want me to beg? I don’t mind gettin’ on my knees.”

After analysing said scar, the brunette scoffed before a fit of laughter fell from her lips, bumping her side with the others as they walked, ignoring those that were inevitably staring their way. “That’s what you think. I think Kyle has more charm, though,” she dared to tease.

“Not even. You shut your whore mouth, Dubois,” Riley wrinkled his nose with a laugh. “I give my brother credit. He’s got the charm for television. I prefer to hide my shame and hang out with kids that don’t judge me.”
