Now you know I had thoughts, and it looks like the writers are cooking with gas with these tarot references.
There are spoilers so be warned!
So let's talk about these playing cards transforming into tarot cards.
First we got The Lovers front in center with 3 of Pentacles & Ace of Pentacles.
The Lovers can signal trust, connection, union (or reunion) of two parties, relationships, & commitment. Obvious example would be Gambit & Rogue as lovers reuniting, and it can also talk about aspects of an individual uniting.
3 of pentacles signals material creativity, opportunity, work.
Ace of pentacles signals a material initiation, success, the beginning of a new practice or project. Both pentacles cards signal that there could be a new endeavor on the horizon.
These cards show up right after Professor X just announced and established X-Corp as a mode for mutant liberation and based it in the ruins of Genosha. Combined with the Lovers, I get the idea of people coming together to establish something that's meant to last longer as the Pentacles suit is associated with the element Earth and things that are measured in years. Corporations and Nations are meant to last for years and have material impact.
Second, we get the Tower card with 2 of Swords & 5 of Swords
The Tower is a favorite of mine because the key lesson is that anything built on a dishonest foundation will crumble sooner or later. Yes the card signals disaster & upheaval, but it's for betterment. What was built was not healthy or aligned with truth. Now I'm looking at X-Corp because it's a literal tower, but I'm also looking at its opposition in X-Force which is a government sanctioned team that is quick to imprison mutants versus empowering them. I think either in the later episodes of this season or in the next season, it might explore how there's an anti-mutant hand behind X-Force in an effort to destroy mutants. X-Force is the exalted team.
2 of swords signals decisions being made. Coincidentally, it makes an X symbol. The card deals with choosing a path, and with X-Men, it could mean choosing an ideological path or a conscious vision of progress. The thing with decisions is that something gets cut away when the decision is made.
5 of swords signals mental or ideological conflict, dispute, exoneration, vindication.
Last, we get the main arrangement with Death, The Tower, & the Lovers (in that order).
Death = irreversible change/transformation
If we were to look at these 3 cards as a sequence of moments, then here's my theory.
Death
Gambit dies and becomes transformed into a Horseman of Apocalypse like in the comics. Pretty clear. This transformation is irreversible.
The Tower
Since he's a former X-Men when he goes out and causes a ruckus, it has some political backlash against the X-Men/X-Corp (maybe?) or cracks the facade of civility people might hold towards mutants in general.
The Lovers
But there will be a moment when Apocalypse's control fades, and the real Remy comes out probably triggered by his love for Rogue.
This escape from Apocalypse's control leads to him rejoining the X-men, but he still has the visual remnants of being a former Horseman just like Archangel.
He doesn't go back to being the ragin' cajun we were used to. He has to unite these parts of himself (pre-death + post death = future path).
All 7 of these cards feel so appropriate for this season as Apocalypse is a central figure, but I don't think he's the central villain.
Reverend Stryker and his Purifiers showed up in this episode, and I would not be surprised if they're the ones who are gonna shake stuff up to where the X-men and Apocalypse might need join forces with Professor X & Apocalypse bonding over their connection to Magneto.
Apocalypse having several biblical references melds perfectly with Reverend Stryker using religion to support his anti-mutant rhetoric.
They might even adapt the God Loves, Man Kills storyline in a cool way. X2 (X-Men United) did a good job with it.

Side note: I'm surprised they actually kept Stryker as a reverend in this adaptation because I'm sure it would piss of the Christocentric, but Reverend Stryker could be a dope homage to the Christocentric Fascism that's running rampant in the U.S. and other places.

Gambit fans how we feeling about a potential Gambit themed Ita bag? I may have been hit with the inspiration and already doodled a sketch concept for one? Will be slightly bigger than your standard loungefly bag with pockets.
I like Channing Tatum as Gambit and was just really happy to see Gambit getting screen time at all in that movie.
But when it comes to people complaining about him some of the complaints I'm gonna be honest are just dumb.
Costuming? Valid. Theres only so much you can do to make Gambit's outfit not look stupid and Channing's face shape isn't exactly like Gambit's so the mask is probably not to some people's liking. Plus the fact he doesn't have the iconic red and black eyes IS something to be genuinely saddened about. Because its why Gambit has the life that he has.
The accent? I thought was wonderful. Some Cajuns say it was spot on, some say it wasnt. He has family in Louisiana so I'm gonna go ahead and say that he knew what he was doing and compared to some animated appearances where he isn't cajun at all, it is a step up. But its okay if you think its too strong considering the fact they didn't bother to subtitle it for that movie (literally just says Unintelligible when he mutters "couyon zwah" before throwing the card at Wolverine)
But the dialogue for his single appearance? "Oh it made him a laughing stock" I'm sorry but like the movie you are watching is a DEADPOOL movie. It is an ACTION COMEDY. If Gambit was not making jokes it would've been WEIRD. And even then that was NOT CHANNING'S FAULT ENTIRELY. Whoever was gonna play Gambit in that movie would've had to also joke or did improv to add to the comedy. Give the man a chance to be in a serious film first, Deadpool and Wolverine was NOT enough to say he was dogshit at playing the character.
