#genuine question #im so confused #my family wants to head there tonight

I'm not the best with children.

I felt like I was constantly reminded of that fact with Berry. Every step I took seemed to push her further into her shell, and I wasn't quite sure how to fix it, at least until recently when we sat down and had a chat about it. She told me she strives to be as independent as possible and has a difficult time relying on the adults around her. At first I didn't know how to respond to that, so I just listened to her let it all out, honestly I believe that's exactly what she needed. At first the revelation that Berry didn’t want any help was confusing to me. What kind of child doesn’t want the attention and care of their parents? That just sounds absurd! But the more i listened the more I began to understand why she felt the need to keep to herself. My heart hurts thinking of what she had gone through before she was adopted by lucy, How could someone be so cruel to abandon a child like that?

This experience has truly opened my eyes to how different every child can be and honestly I couldn’t be more proud of mine.
