Midori looked around as wraith-like bodies belonging to members of her adventuring party materialized nearby.

"Zookdar? Galon? Fizzarolli? Connie? What?!? They got all of you, too?" Her allies cast glances all around, confused and disoriented. "We...failed? We didn't defeat Sarvel Ever-Hunger? What's going to happen now?"

Soon, more figures appeared in the nearly infinite surrounding ethereal space. First, they came by the dozens, then hundreds, then thousands.

"No," Midori yelled impotently, "that xulgath son of a bitch did it! He finished activating the Extinction Curse! This...." She looked around at all of the newcomers. "...I've never seen so many people! Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? He killed everyone on the Starstone Isles!"

She fell to her knees, trembling. The kitsune shouted into the crowd. "I-I'm sorry, everyone! I couldn't stop him! I w-wasn't...." Phantom tears welled up in her ghostly eyes as she started to sniffle. "I wasn't s-strong enough to save you all! This is all my fault!" She cradled her face in her hands and sobbed miserably.

"YOUR FAULT?!?" A voice cut through the crowd. "YOU COULD HAVE STOPPED THIS?" The apparition of a large, burly human emerged from the throng and strode up to Midori. Others followed suit. Soon, twenty figures surrounded the crestfallen kitsune, glaring at her threateningly.

Midori lifted her face from her hands in alarm. "What? No! What are you doing? Don't touch me!" She shrieked, "GET AWAY FROM ME!"

Midori's eyes opened. She blinked several times to clear them, but the haze refused to go away. She noticed her environment had a dreamlike quality to it, much like where she found herself when Skarja the Night Hag had killed her before Midori had come back as a ghost.

"Am I—" Her voice sounded far away to her own ears. "—am I dead?"

As the adventurers lay on the floor, near death, Midori coughed and called out to the rest of her party.

"Well, I think, I think…that if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own circus! Because everything I'll ever need is right there!

"It's so hard to say goodbye! I love you all!

"Don't cry, Zookdar, your armor will rust up!

"Goodbye, Connie. You know, I know it isn't right, but I'm going to miss the way you used to treat me like a dog.

"Galon, I'll miss the way you get all liquored up to fight our enemies.

"Fizzarolli, I think I'll miss you most of all."

Midori looked up to the ceiling as if she could see through it to the sky above. "I'm ready."

Well, this is it! The final battle against the Big Bad Evil Guy!

Ow! That Blade Barrier was no joke!

A Trample? Ha ha! I'm far too nimble to get hit by that!

Ouch! That Harm spell really stung!

Wait...why am I BLEEDING so much...?

Midori asks, "Oh, for that kissin' question: Midori, the kitsune ringmaster extraordinaire, or...uh...Lady Niji-iro Midori from Emerald Hollow?

"(I sent her one of those Fey planeshift rings, so maybe she'll pop over to this universe for a visit!)"

"This is blarant cheating Mido.

But either way, we have established we don't match romantically, so I wonder if your other version shares your characteristics in that regard..."

"PSHHHH! 'Romantically'? It doesn't have to be romantic....

"Oh, an' I heard Lady Midori just had her first kiss.* With a Fey shapeshifter, too! So...maybe she's not up for another kissin' partner. Not just yet."

Midori brought a bag full of assorted snacks.

"Well, I'm nearing the end of my big adventure. We're gettin' ready to face down the Big Bad Evil Guy. An' I'm bringin' a Necklace of Fireballs! AAAAHAHAHAHAHA! *Ahem* I hope they're not immune to fire....

"How about you? What's new?"

"Hey. Fen," Midori asked, "would you like to get together for coffee? We could catch up."

"Hey hey.", the blacksmith lit up a little as he was approached by the kitsune.

"Yea, I was thinking the same thing lately. It's been total chaos, for once I may have stuff to share too.", he nodded with a grin.

"And Ive been super curious about what happened with your last events, I've been a little worried since."

"....Right." Honestly, he still didn't have any idea what she was talking about. He didn't exactly want to continue the comment about her tits either, cause telling her he wasn't interested like that would hurt her, and doing anything else would give her more fuel to tease him.

Midori was a hell of a tease of a person...

Still, he had to admit to himself he didn't remember the number of her tails, and even if he didn't understand her otherwise nice singing, he had a feeling from the.... explantation, that it was about them.

Hnnnn....

"Well, having nine tails now must feel weird, does it not?", he grinned with a giggle, acting entirely confident. Yes, this way whether she had more or less, it wouldn't show that he didn't remember. It was the perfect escape from the awkward moment!

"Plus they look super fluffy today, did you wash them with something special?" Little bit of a diversion too..

Midori replied, "Weird? Not at all! Finally havin' my ninth tail is absolutely wonderful! Look, I can fan them all out," she fanned out her tails again, "I can group them into three groups of three," she clustered her tails three-by-three, "I can do a fashionable six-and-three part for that asymmetrical look," she parted her tails as such, "...whatever I want!

"...but the best part is: I am now ranked among the most powerful kitsune in the world! Power, Fen, POWER! AAAAAHAHAHAHHA! *Ahem.*

"Also, you are very astute! My tails ARE extra fluffy today. I spent extra time makin' them look good so they're extra fluffy, silky, an' oh-so-touchable! Go ahead, give 'em a feel! An' I used extra scented oil: patchouli, sandalwood, amber, an' vanilla. You should smell my tails, Fen."

She stood even closer to Ferenir, staring into his eyes intensely. "Smell me, Fen!"

Inexperienced as she is, Midori had a breakfast consisting of a coffee and a 'Barbarian Cream Doughssant' (which is a croissant filled with vanilla custard, glazed, and iced with chocolate ganache, and you should really try one if you ever have the chance), then proceeded to work out all day at the training arena with only her water bottle to drink. Then she went to the tavern and started drinking spiced mead.

She...rolled a 6 on her constitution save....

"So I need more power, eh? Yes, yes! Maybe, just maybe, I can obtain such power by passing the Test of the Starstone! Of course! ANYBODY can take the test. Cayden Cailean passed the test back when he was a mortal, an' HE BECAME A GOD!

"I'm a follower of Cayden Cailean an' I've modeled my life after him. It should be just as easy for me to pass.

"I SHALL BECOME A GOD MYSELF!

"The Starstone will set up a Queen. An' I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea an' the Sun an' the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm an' the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me an' despair!

"AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!"
