how i use google drive for university - pt 1: digital notetaking by kkaitstudies
idk about you but iâve tested a bunch of note taking methods. in my last few years of university, i was indeed lazy and rarely referred back to the professorâs slides in the course shell. i opted to read off the slides in lecture and take notes. while MS OneNote is great, i found myself enjoying Google Drive much more. so here is a quick overview of how i take notes using Google Docs.Â
folders are your friends
make separate folders for each of your courses. google drive even gives you the option to change the colours of the folders. in these folders, add any relevant coursework such as the syllabi, readings, and your notes document.
use one doc for notes per course
once you receive the syllabi, take some time to take note of required readings, and assignment deadlines. i have created a free template you can save to your own google drive that you can access here. fill out:
- course code & name - profâs name, office hours, and email - date(s) for each week of class - weekly readings (tip: if you have online readings, you can link them in the doc!) - & open the document outline (view > show document outline)
you also donât have to use all these features. T B H, i didnât do weekly readings. a lot. oops. BUT i did always pay attention in lecture. i simply deleted the âreading notesâ header every week i didnât bother to read.
make use of early access to lecture slides, headers, etc.Â
some profs (bless their souls) post the slides sometime before the lecture. if you have the time, copy the lecture slides into your notes. and if they donâtâŠtype real quick to get all the info as itâs happening (or go back to slides online after lecture to see what you missed out on). i separate lecture topics with headers, with the bullet points underneath (see above). if there is anything that the prof says during class that isnât in the lecture slides, i will change the colour of the text to a different colour. any important concepts or testable material are highlighted.
âŠand thatâs how i take notes! everyone is different. not all note-taking methods work for everyone. this is what worked for me in my last 2 years of uni. hopefully a similar structure works for some of yâall! also, let me know what you think and @ me if you end up using my template. have a great semester!
coming soon: [ part 2: grade tracker | part 3: gmail and gcal ]
Ciao! Could you recommed us some Italian YouTubers? Grazie!
We posted/reblogged some already here and here (esp. gamers, makeup artists, language speakers and italian culture). I recommend you to check the Italian resources masterpost anyway. You can find the link here in the top bar or in the only post on @sayitalianohome.
As Idk your tastes, Iâll try to add some more:Â
- HumanSafari a guy who takes trips all around the world (he also has a side-channel on which he posts other non-official videos from those trips or his everyday life)- Cane Secco (not the rapper, but Matteo Bruno) is a videomaker from Rome. He posts a video every sunday about his week and his work. Also, if youâre into videomaking, his societyâs channel is cool to check. Probably better if youâre advanced though (they speak a lot in roman accent/slang, but if you need explanations/have questions, feel free to write us). He also posts videos backstages (Ermal Metaâs videos too, for those interested).- Space Valley. These 6 funny guys from Bologna make the weirdest experiments and eat the weirdest stuff. They also speak about Italian culture, and invite other people to talk about a specific subject. Theyâre rebuilding their studio rn, so theyâre posting a bit less on their second channel. Also, Nels, one of them, has his own channel in which he posts about his life and his experience as a band singer.- Luis. This guy is crazy. He makes the weirdest videos in which he, for example, eats a salad standing on his arms.- Il Signor Franz. If you like photography, videomaking, random vlogs, travels, unboxing videos, but also infos on how to respect the world, he is your guy.- Marcello Ascani. As Cane Secco and Il Signor Franz, he is from Roma. He used to make videos in which he drew the subjects (like draw my life). He is now posting a bit more about his life, travels and what kind of work hides behind unknown but succeeding people.- Willwoosh. âGĂčâ. He totally makes me ârotflâ with his videos called âVita Buttataâ in which he asks his followers to send him something that happened to them about a specific topic and heâs commenting those events, but also his older videos were fantastic (especially the Twilight and Breaking Dawn Italian remakes made YT Italiaâs history). He also makes serious videos about what is happening here. He took part in a YT serie called Freaks, with Cane Secco and Claudio di Biagio, among others, and you can find it here.- Claudio di Biagio. He now kind of closed his YT channel because heâs doing something else, but still you can find a lot of funny videos, especially the ones with his granny who cooks (#epoitelomagni - and then/later you eat it). (again, strong roman slang/accent alert)-AlicelikeAudrey. She is a makeup artist that also talks about her life, makes DIY videos and more.- If youâre into recipes, Fatto in casa da Benedetta, might be your cup of tea. She makes videos with just subtitles about what sheâs doing in the kitchen, unless she is speaking about something else.- Thatâs Gordon. Another funny guy from Milan who has a very strong feminine alter ego, and he uses it to explain girls how to act with guys that treat them bad. He appeared also on a few TV programs.- iamnotnakano. A friend of mine who vlogs about his experience with an old moto he bought, and about motorsâ world.- Libreria Infinita. Another friend who speaks about and suggests books she read.- Giulio Barzaghi. A young photographer who especially speaks about smartphonesâ photography.- Pit. These guys, who appeared and cooperated in an old TV mistery serie, opened an horror-like channel about their paranormal experiences and researches. They are some kind of real ghostbusters, that go visit abandoned places and try to communicate with ghosts/souls that are trapped there. If you arenât scared to watch, youâll see most of the videos have English subtitles.- Gianmarco Zagato. Another guy who makes funny videos with his sister and cousins, but also paranormal videos. He is like⊠surrounded by ghosts, and he also wrote a book about what he claims to be the weirdest paranormal experience he has ever had.- Luca e Katy. A couple in life who makes vlogs about them and videos about many different kinds of challenges/jokes.- Fraffrog. If you like drawings and see people drawing, she wonât disappoint you.- Basic Gaia. She is another make up artist. Sheâs also Shadeâs gf, and he occasionally appears n her videos making voiceovers or other challenges (+ vlogs).Ofc youâll find more bc all of these guys are making videos together with other youtubers. And also, you can check the suggested/linked/related channel on the right on each channel.

Italian Moods and Tenses Masterpost
Italian verbs inflect for mood, tense, number (singular and plural only), person and sometimes gender. In total, Italian has 7 moods, 21 tenses and 3 classes of verbs called conjugations.
Moods are categories which express fact, unreality, wish, subjectivity, conditionality, commands and more;
Tenses are forms a verb can take to express the time of an action in relation to the time of the utterance;
Conjugations in Italian are distinguished by the different endings of the infinitive form of the verb. They are: -are, -ere (-arre, -orre, -urre), -ire (-ire verbs with the -isc infix).
Verbs can have a regular or irregular conjugation. Most verbs are regular, that is they follow a regular conjugation pattern. Some verbs are only irregular in certain tenses (e.g. bere, tenere), while some are irregular throughout their whole paradigm (e.g. essere, avere).

How To Study Vocabulary
Since I ALWAYS struggled with learning vocabulary, I went to the library and borrowed every book about language learning that I could find! I will list different methods down below. I hope theyâre as helpful for you as they are for me! Also, this will be kind of a long post, so I apologize.
Firstly, itâs important to acknowledge that there are different learning-types, and we all learn differently, so thereâs no guarantee that these will work for you!
Repetition of Vocabulary
1. after a couple of hours
2. after a day
3. after a week
4. after one month
5. after 3-4 months
Itâs also important to remember that you should only study a word/phrase until you know it. Everything else will be a waste of time. You should still repeat the words like I said above.
Different methods:
-Mind mapping
-Arrange the words into groups
-Structure things (e.g. vegetables: beans, carrots, tomatoes)
-Order things after similarities/differences
-Gradations (e.g. temperatures, months, time etc)
-Learn with pictures
-Step by step (e.g. ordering food in a restaurant)
It is important that you change things up and not study everything the same way every time! Your brain needs changes to understand things or you wonât be able to use the words in an actual conversation.
Other things you can do:
-Watch Videos in your target language
-Listen to music
-Record yourself saying the vocabulary and listen to it while you study
-Read read read, honestly just try to read as much in your target language as possible
-Try to think in your target language. Describe your surroundings to yourself, count things
-learn about the things youâre interested in. If youâre interested in fantasy, learn those fantasy words fam
- never learn more than 30-40 words a day. Recommend would be 8-10 so you actually remember them -> Quality not Quantity!
-consistency is key
-some days it just wonât work and thatâs okay. Just try again tomorrow
-put random words/sheets with words on places where you will see them, e.g the bathroom mirror or the fridge or the inside of the door. You will read them all the time and will probably remember them way easier because of this.
I hope this was at least kind of helpful. I think the most important part for me to realize was that your brain needs changes in order to learn new things. If you just read one word 10 times you wonât remember it.
Say it, write it down, listen to it and write it down in a different context again. Read the words to your Axolotl.
Context is so so so important and will help you to remember words way easier.
Also remember to drink lotsa water because water is good. Also learn the word for water in your target language!

tips from a native speaker
italian is not an easy language. the grammar structure is complex, it has a wide vocabulary and depending on factors you might also find difficult to master the pronunciation. donât beat yourself up if you donât succeed at first, it takes time and practice. be patient. youâll master the language one day.
the âitalian standard vocabularyâ (the one we use on a daily basis) is made of 6.500 words, but 90% of conversations are made using 2.000 basic words. youâll be able to keep up a conversation sooner than you think!
donât be afraid to talk with a native speaker even if youâre a beginner!! weâll most likely understand you and correct you if necessary. also youâll improve SO MUCH
this is a really interesting tip: purchase the italian translation of your favorite book and read it. itâs easier bc you already know the story + you can look at the translation for any doubts. when you become more confident, then you can start reading new books
pick an article from an italian newspaper and translate it with the help of a dictionary. here, have some italian newspapers 1 2 3 4 5
never rely on google translate, itâs good if you want a general idea of the meaning but 9/10 translations are incorrect
you want to keep two notebooks, one for grammar/exercises and one for your personal vocab (i suggest you to get an alphabetized one)
listen to italian music, watch movies/documentaries/tv shows in italian (with or without subtitles). 90% of my english knowledge comes from this method tbh
in the #langblr tag you can find many more tips, posts and blogs to help you
submit you exercises!
if you want a revision of your italian exercises you can submit them and iâll gladly be your proofreader!!
post types recommended are Text and Link
please keep in mind that i proofread in my spare time, so donât get mad if it takes longer than you expect! if itâs something that has a deadline avoid submitting it, idk, the night before⊠itâs⊠common sense
submissions posted are always tagged with your main blog url
please submit your italian exercises iâd love to help other people learning my own language!! â€

not to be maya on side but please do not call someone or something âmayanâ when talking about our people, culture, etc. âmayanâ refers to our language family (a language FAMILY, in which there are plenty of unique languages). we are the maya, not the mayans. i am maya, not mayan. it is the indigenous maya community, not the indigenous mayan community.Â
